A result described as “4× smaller” can mean fewer bytes in the downloaded file or fewer pixels in the image. Those are different measurements: a file can use fewer bytes without having lower pixel dimensions, and the title alone does not identify which measurement—or which tools and settings—produced the difference.
First, establish what “4× smaller” means
Compare the two downloaded files, not just their previews or the size shown in a tool’s interface. Record each image’s width and height in pixels, then record each file’s size in bytes. The first pair describes image dimensions; the second describes how much encoded data the files contain.

- Fewer pixels: One image has lower pixel dimensions or a different aspect ratio.
- Fewer bytes: The image file takes less storage, which may reflect its format or encoding settings rather than fewer pixels.
Be precise about the ratio. If both the width and height are halved, the image contains one quarter as many pixels: (width ÷ 2) × (height ÷ 2). That calculation does not apply just because a file is one quarter the size in bytes. A byte ratio alone does not establish the image’s dimensions or visual quality.

Why two tools can produce different results
Different output dimensions
An image-generation tool may return a different width, height, or aspect ratio because of the requested output size, an automatic-size setting, or model-specific constraints. The OpenAI image-generation guide documents output controls such as image dimensions, quality, format, compression, and background. Its Images API reference also documents size behavior and constraints for the GPT Image models it lists. These controls are examples of settings that can matter; they do not establish what happened in the unspecified comparison.
#1 Best Overall
- 【STAINLESS STEEL MATERIAL】The vernier caliper is made of high-strength stainless steel and is waterproof and dirt-proof. The service life of this stainless steel digital caliper is longer than that of calipers with plastic or carbon fiber parts.
- 【ACCURATE MEASUREMENT AND ZERO SETTING】This digital caliper glides smoothly. Measuring range: 0 -6" / 0-150mm; Accuracy: ± 0.001"/ 0.02mm; Resolution: 0. 0005"/0. 01mm. At the same time, the smart design allows you to easily reset to zero by pressing a button and start a new measurement at any point on the scale, which is very suitable for differential measurement.
- 【4 MEASUREMENT MODES】The digital caliper has 4 measurement modes, which can be used to measure inside and outside diameter, depth, and step with two sets of jaws and a probe. Multiple measurement modes can bring more usage scenarios to people, and the measurement process is also very convenient.
- 【UNIT CONVERSION & LARGER LCD SCREEN】These Digital Calipers have a one-key button to quickly switch from inches (inch), fractions (F), millimeters (mm). The 6" digital caliper has a large, easy-to-read LCD DISPLAY which is easy to use and read even under strong sunlight. It will automatically turn off after 5 minutes of non-use to save power.
- 【Wide Applications】 Compared to the ordinary rulers, this stainless steel caliper can measure not only length but also caliber and depth, allows you to measure circular and cylindrical objects, more functions and better performance will satisfy you. It has always been used by professionals and hobbyists alike, jewelers, hobbyists, woodworkers, machinists, DIY, automotive mechanics, and more.
Different file formats or encoding settings
File size also depends on how an image is encoded. MDN describes JPEG as lossy, PNG as lossless, and WebP as supporting both lossy and lossless encoding. A different format or compression choice can therefore change file bytes without making a simple, predictable change to width and height.
Google for Developers reports that, in its stated comparisons, lossy WebP files are 25–34% smaller than comparable JPEG images at equivalent quality, and lossless WebP images are 26% smaller than PNGs. These are format comparisons reported by Google, not guaranteed results for every image, encoder, or setting. They do not show that any particular pair of files has identical dimensions or perceived quality.

Different generation or export steps
The tools may differ in model, endpoint, requested versus automatic size, quality, or output format. A subsequent resize or export may also change the result. Unless you check the files and settings, these are possible explanations—not proof that either tool applied a particular default or altered the image.
How to diagnose the difference
- Download both outputs. Work from the actual files rather than previews, which may be displayed at different sizes.
- Record pixel dimensions. Note the width and height in pixels for each file, along with its aspect ratio if available.
- Record file size in bytes. Do not infer resolution from a smaller byte count.
- Check format and encoding options. Note whether the files are JPEG, PNG, WebP, or another format, and record any quality or compression setting that is visible.
- Compare the generation setup. Record each tool’s model and endpoint, requested or automatic output size, quality, and format. Include any resize or export step performed after generation.
- Repeat with matched settings where possible. Use the same input and align the available settings before comparing. If a tool does not expose a setting, record that difference rather than assuming it matches the other tool.
For a useful report, state the exact measurement and values—for example, “the downloaded file is one quarter the bytes” or “both width and height are half as large.” Then include each file’s dimensions, format, byte size, and the settings used. That makes it possible to distinguish an output-size difference from an encoding difference.

- [INCH/MM Conversion]: One button can quickly convert two measuring unit (INCH/MM). Measuring Range:0 - 150mm (6") / Resolution: 0.01mm (0.0005")/Accuracy: ±0.02mm (0.001")
- [Stainless Steel Material]: The vernier caliper is made of high-strength stainless steel, which is waterproof, stain-proof and oil-proof. The ergonomic design brings you a comfortable feeling.
- [Large and Clear Display Screen]: Large LCD display gives you a clear reading. The thumb rolling and locking screw provide easy sliding, accurate positioning, and fine adjustment.
- [Multifunctional Use]: The digital micrometer can easily and accurately measure internal, external, height and depth dimensions.
- [Automatically shut off]: When you have no action on the dial caliper, it can automatically shut off after 4 minutes.
What the 4× figure does—and does not—tell you
- If both dimensions are half as large, the smaller image has one quarter as many pixels.
- If only the file size in bytes is one quarter as large, that does not establish a pixel-count difference.
- Neither measurement by itself identifies the cause or proves which output looks better.
Because the tools, sample files, model versions, settings, and meaning of “smaller” are unspecified, the actual cause of this reported difference cannot be determined from the comparison as described.
