The right portable photo printer depends first on the print you want: pocket-size stickers, instant-film keepsakes, or larger 4 × 6-inch photos. Those formats come with different trade-offs in image style, consumable cost, phone compatibility, and what you must carry. The five models below are useful options to compare—not a universal ranking.

Which print format should you choose?
Choose 2 × 3-inch prints for wallets and stickers
Small prints are easy to hand out, stick in a journal, or tuck into a wallet. The Ivy 2 makes 2 × 3-inch Zink prints; the QX20 accepts card-size sticker paper measuring 2.1 × 3.4 inches. The image area can be smaller than the paper, so check the exact media dimensions and layout rather than relying on a format label alone.

Choose square or instant film for keepsakes
The QX20’s square paper measures 2.7 × 2.7 inches. Instax Mini prints have a different physical look and finish because they are made on instant film. Fujifilm’s Mini, Square, and Wide film packs are distinct formats, so the printer and film must match. The Fujifilm Instax smartphone printer range also describes Square for an artistic format and Wide for groups and landscapes; these are format alternatives, not interchangeable packs.

Choose 4 × 6 inches when image size matters most
The CP1500 supports prints up to 4 × 6 inches, a more familiar size for framing and albums. In exchange, its paper tray and optional battery make the complete setup bulkier than a pocket printer. If you need prints while away from an outlet, include the battery and media in your packing decision.
Understand the three print technologies
Dye-sublimation
Dye-sublimation printers use a paper-and-dye-ribbon media system and are positioned by Digital Camera World toward the higher-fidelity end of this category. Canon identifies both SELPHY models as dye-sublimation printers. Canon says CP1500 prints emerge dry and water-resistant and claims longevity of up to 100 years; that figure is a manufacturer claim subject to the conditions in Canon’s footnote, not a guarantee for every storage environment. Zink
Zink paper contains color-forming material, so the Ivy 2 does not need separate ink cartridges. Digital Camera World describes it as a lower-cost-running option that can be less faithful in image quality than dye-sublimation. Its estimated per-print cost depends on the paper-pack price and is not a current universal rate.

Instant film
Instax printers expose dedicated film packs, giving prints a distinct instant-film character. This format can cost more per image than small digital-photo paper; Digital Camera World’s cited Mini film estimate was about $1.15 / 70p per print at its stated pack price. Prices vary by location and time, so compare current local film prices rather than treating that estimate as a standing price.

Check the whole travel setup, not just the printer
- Power: QX20 has a built-in rechargeable battery. CP1500 needs the optional NB-CP2LH for untethered use; Canon rates it for up to 54 prints per charge.
- Paper handling: Account for paper cassettes, trays, and the space needed to keep media clean and flat. A printer’s bare weight does not describe the full kit.
- Connection: Confirm the exact iOS or Android app and connection method for the model you plan to buy. The CP1500 supports Wi-Fi, AirPrint, USB, memory cards, and app printing; the guide reports Bluetooth for Mini Link+ and Ivy 2.
- Device source: If you want to print from a camera or computer rather than a phone, verify that workflow for the exact model. Fujifilm’s page describes printing digital-camera images with Mini Link 3; that is not evidence of the same feature on the separately named Mini Link+.
- Consumables: Match the printer to the precise paper, cartridge, or film SKU. Compare cost per usable print using current prices in your country, and check whether the media is actually available nearby.
How to make the choice
- Decide the print size and look. Pick sticker-size, square, instant film, or 4 × 6-inch output before comparing devices.
- Choose the technology. Consider dye-sublimation for a conventional photo-print finish, Zink for peel-and-stick prints without separate ink, or Instax film for its analog character.
- Build the carrying kit. Add the required battery, tray, and a supply of compatible media to the printer’s size and weight.
- Verify your workflow. Check the exact model’s phone operating-system support, app, connection, and any camera or computer printing needs.
- Price the media locally. Use the compatible SKU and current regional price to calculate the cost of the number of prints you expect to make.
- Confirm the exact model and availability. Similar product names do not guarantee the same features or accessories, and availability can differ by store and region.
