Set a custom location-sharing period
- Open Find My and tap People.
- Tap the Add button, then choose Share My Location.
- Enter a name or select the friend you want to share with, then tap Done.
- Choose Custom and adjust the fields displayed to set a duration or end time.
Apple’s iOS 27 iPhone guide describes the Custom option as a way to set a duration or end time. It does not specify minimum or maximum durations, field increments, or whether the controls are identical in every region, so use the options shown on your device.

Choose the duration that fits
Apple lists three preset choices as well as a custom period: one hour, until the end of the day, indefinitely, or a time period you choose. Pick a preset when it matches how long you need to share; choose Custom when you want to set a particular duration or end time. Apple’s documentation does not say that one choice is more accurate or safer than another.

Check sharing settings if the recipient cannot see you
Before sharing, open Find My, tap Me, and turn on Share My Location. Check the device listed beside Sharing From: that is the device providing your location. If you want to share from the iPhone you are using, choose Use This iPhone as My Location when that option appears.
If sharing is on but the recipient still cannot see your location, check Find My’s Location Services permission at Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services. Apple’s setup and troubleshooting guidance is in its Find My iPhone guide.

Stop or pause sharing before the custom period ends
Stop sharing with one person
- In Find My, tap People and select the person.
- Choose Stop Sharing My Location, then confirm Stop Sharing Location.
Pause sharing with a friend
Apple also provides Hide Location for a friend. Select that friend in People and use the hide option if you want to pause sharing rather than stop it.

In Find My, tap Me and turn off Share My Location to hide your location from everyone. These options are described in Apple’s Find My guide.

Family sharing and Apple Watch behavior
Family location sharing can be managed through Settings or Find My, and a family member can stop sharing at any time. It can also help family members locate missing devices. See Apple’s Family Sharing location guide for that separate setup.
If you share your location from an iPhone paired with a GPS + Cellular Apple Watch, Apple says the watch shares the location when the iPhone is out of range and the watch is on your wrist. This behavior does not change how you choose a custom end time.
