Use Samsung’s built-in My Files storage analysis to find large files without opening folders one by one: open My Files, tap Analyse storage, then review the Large files list. Check each item before deleting it; the list identifies files to review, not files that are automatically safe to remove.
Find large files in My Files
- Open My Files. It comes pre-installed on most Galaxy devices; if you cannot see it, search for the app or look in the Samsung folder.
- Scroll to the bottom of the My Files screen and tap Analyse storage. On some versions, tap More options and choose Analyse storage instead.
- Review the storage breakdown, then scroll to Large files to inspect the results. Samsung describes this feature as a way to analyse storage use and surface large, duplicate, and unused files. Samsung’s My Files guide was updated on 3 April 2024.
- Open or inspect a candidate before deciding whether to keep, move, or delete it. Samsung does not specify a universal size cutoff for the Large files list, so do not expect it to begin at a particular number of megabytes or gigabytes.
When to use the Settings storage view instead
On documented Samsung devices, another route is Settings > Device care > Storage. This system-level view can show large, duplicate, and unused files, and tapping a data type opens more detail. The exact menu wording and availability can vary by Galaxy model, region, and software version. Samsung India’s storage guidance documents this route.

Locate a file when you know what you are looking for
Storage analysis is useful for discovery, but My Files also lets you browse by category or storage location. Choose Images, Videos, Audio, or Downloads to narrow the view. If you know the filename, use My Files search. Camera photos may be stored under Internal storage > DCIM > Camera or on an SD card at SD card > DCIM > Camera. Keep large files without keeping them on internal storage
Move or copy to external storage
Samsung documents moving or copying files from internal storage to an SD card or connected external storage. Copying leaves the original on the phone; moving transfers it and removes the original from its previous location. SD-card support varies by Galaxy model, so check compatibility before relying on one. See Samsung Canada’s file-transfer guidance.

Transfer to a computer
Connect the Galaxy phone to a computer with a USB cable that supports data transfer, select the file-transfer option on the phone, then manage or copy files through the computer’s file browser. Samsung’s instructions are for Canadian devices; it notes that screens and settings can differ in other countries. Read Samsung Canada’s transfer instructions.
Delete only after checking the selection
A file appearing in Large files does not mean it is disposable. Confirm what it is and whether you still need it before deleting. Take extra care with bulk actions: Samsung UK warns that choosing a delete-all action after reviewing duplicate results can also remove original files. Samsung Canada says duplicate results appear only when duplicates exist and selected duplicates require confirmation. Those warnings concern duplicate-file cleanup, but they reinforce why you should verify selections rather than treating an analysis result as permission to delete.

After deletion, check whether the item went to Trash. Where Trash is available, Samsung Canada says deleted items may remain there for 30 days before permanent deletion; Trash is not available on every model. Samsung Canada’s My Files guidance explains the feature.

What the storage list cannot tell you
- It does not establish a universal size threshold for what counts as a large file.
- It does not promise a specific amount of storage that you will recover; the result depends on what is on your phone and what you choose to remove or transfer.
- Usable internal capacity is lower than the stated storage capacity because the operating system and default apps use some space.
