There is no single “best” LAN driver for every Windows 10 PC. The right driver depends on the computer’s Ethernet hardware, and built-in connections may use a driver customized by the PC or motherboard maker. Start with the support page for your exact computer model, then consider the controller maker’s official download only if it matches your hardware and Windows version.
Where to download the right Windows 10 LAN driver
For built-in Ethernet, start at the PC or motherboard maker’s official support page and search by the exact model. Manufacturers may modify or replace a component maker’s driver for integrated network connections. Intel notes this caveat for its network adapters, and Microsoft likewise directs users to the PC manufacturer when Windows cannot find a suitable network driver.

If you have identified a separate Intel or Realtek Ethernet controller, use the relevant vendor’s official page and verify that the download supports the exact controller and Windows version. Intel’s Windows 10 network adapter driver page listed release 31.2.2 when checked on October 7, 2026; that is a page-specific listing, not a recommendation for every PC. Realtek’s download page lists software for PCIe FE/GbE and higher-speed Ethernet controller families, but a family name alone does not confirm that a package fits your device.
How to identify the driver your PC needs
- Find the computer model. Check the label on the PC or motherboard, or use the model information shown in Windows’ system settings. For a prebuilt computer or laptop, use its complete model identifier on the manufacturer’s support site.
- Identify the Ethernet controller if needed. Open Device Manager and expand Network adapters. If the controller is not identified, check the PC maker’s support page for the model or consult its documentation before selecting a vendor package.
- Check the download details. Confirm that the listed hardware includes your adapter and that the package supports your Windows 10 edition and system architecture. Read the manufacturer’s installation instructions.
- Prefer the exact-model OEM package when available. Use a component vendor’s download when you have confirmed the controller and the package’s stated support. Do not choose a driver just because its description says Windows 10.
Intel’s Windows 10 support guidance for Intel Ethernet adapters provides product coverage and version-specific notes. Check the current vendor listing before downloading because supported hardware and package details can change.

How to install the driver if the PC is offline
If the affected computer has no internet connection, use another computer to download the matching driver from the PC maker’s official support page. Copy the installer to a USB flash drive, transfer it to the affected PC, and follow the installer’s instructions. Microsoft advises keeping a backup driver available before removing a network adapter driver: “Before uninstalling, make sure you have drivers available as a backup.”
If you are troubleshooting an existing connection, first try the PC maker’s recommended driver or Windows’ network troubleshooting steps. Avoid uninstalling the current adapter driver until you have a suitable replacement saved locally; otherwise, the PC may be left without a connection for downloading one.

What to do if there is no Ethernet port
If your PC has no physical Ethernet jack, a USB-to-Ethernet adapter is an optional way to add a wired connection. Check the adapter’s connector type, operating-system support, and compatibility details for your computer before buying. It does not replace the need to install the correct driver for any built-in network hardware.

Microsoft says Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025. Its guidance states that free software updates through Windows Update, technical assistance, and security fixes are no longer provided, and recommends moving to Windows 11. A network driver may restore Ethernet functionality, but it does not restore Windows 10 support.
