Both versions contain the same Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade content, including the complete Midgar campaign and the Yuffie-led FF7R EPISODE INTERmission chapter. The PS5 edition is the better-looking, more technically consistent choice, with official Graphics and Performance modes, while the Switch 2 edition’s defining benefit is playing the game in handheld mode. Choose PS5 for image quality and a documented 60-frame-per-second option; choose Switch 2 when portability and Nintendo-platform convenience matter more than visual fidelity.
What is the same on Switch 2 and PS5?
These are not different stories or cut-down editions. Nintendo describes the Switch 2 release as Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, and Square Enix confirms that the package includes FF7R EPISODE INTERmission. That means either version covers Cloud Strife’s journey through Midgar and the separate Yuffie episode set alongside the main campaign.

Content included in both versions
- The full Midgar campaign from Final Fantasy VII Remake.
- FF7R EPISODE INTERmission, the Yuffie-led side story.
- The Intergrade presentation and gameplay package rather than the original PlayStation 4 release.
There is no evidence that the Switch 2 edition removes chapters, characters, missions or the Intermission episode. The practical difference is how the same game is rendered and where you can play it.
Release dates and platform context

The PS5 version arrived in June 2021 as a system-specific upgrade to the earlier remake release. The Switch 2 edition followed on 22 January 2026. Release timing does not indicate different story content; it reflects the later port and the different hardware targets.

Graphics and image quality
PS5 has the higher visual ceiling. Sony’s description of the PS5 edition identifies a Graphics Mode that prioritizes “high quality 4K graphics.” That is an official description of the mode’s goal, not a promise that every scene renders at a locked native 4K resolution. It does establish that PS5 is designed to prioritize visual detail when you select that mode.
Independent technical coverage from Digital Foundry and TechRadar characterizes the Switch 2 port as a capable hybrid conversion that makes compromises in texture quality, lighting and overall image quality compared with PS5. Those observations are evaluations of the shipped port, not publisher specifications, so they should be understood as comparative findings rather than a fixed resolution chart.
Where the PS5 image is stronger
- Textures: PS5 retains higher-detail surface work, while Switch 2 uses lower-quality assets in places to fit hybrid hardware constraints.
- Lighting: PS5 presents more elaborate lighting; Switch 2 reduces some lighting quality to sustain its portable and docked targets.
- Image stability: PS5’s higher performance headroom gives it a cleaner, more consistent presentation. Switch 2 can look softer, particularly when the hardware is operating in handheld mode.
These differences are most apparent in close-up character shots, busy environments and scenes with complex lighting. During ordinary play, the Switch 2 version still presents the same art direction, environments and cinematic sequence, but it does not match the PS5 edition’s fidelity ceiling.

Switch 2 has two operating contexts. Docked play gives the system more thermal and power headroom and is the stronger-looking way to play on that platform. Handheld play trades some presentation quality for the ability to take the campaign anywhere. Reviews report that docked mode looks better than handheld mode, so a Switch 2 owner should not assume that television output and the built-in screen will look identical.

- Includes Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade with Yuffie’s Episode INTERmission. No physical cartridge, download license key only.
- Play Booster containing 15 random Magic: The Gathering Final Fantasy cards included.
- Hybrid real-time and command-based combat system with materia, summons, and limit breaks.
- Explore expanded Midgar environments, new quests, and mini-games.
- Fully remastered, orchestrated soundtrack that responds dynamically to the action.
No authoritative, directly comparable official table establishes one settled pixel count for Switch 2 against PS5. Avoid treating an unofficial resolution estimate as a guaranteed specification, especially when the image can vary by mode, scene and whether the system is docked.
Frame rate and performance modes
PS5 has a clearly documented choice. Sony says Graphics Mode prioritizes high-quality 4K graphics, while Performance Mode prioritizes smooth action at 60FPS. If your priority is responsive combat and a high-refresh display, Performance Mode is the relevant PS5 setting. If you prefer maximum visual detail, select Graphics Mode and accept the different performance target that accompanies it.
What is confirmed for Switch 2?
The available official material does not document a Switch 2 mode that guarantees 60 frames per second. Do not buy the port expecting a publisher-promised 60-fps setting or assume that it matches the PS5 Performance Mode. Digital Foundry and TechRadar report lower frame-rate fidelity than PS5 in their testing and describe the port as making performance compromises appropriate to hybrid hardware.

That does not make the Switch 2 version unplayable. It means its performance target is a trade-off rather than the straightforward 60FPS promise attached to PS5 Performance Mode. Actual smoothness can also vary between handheld and docked play, so the platform’s portability benefit comes with less certainty about frame-rate consistency.

Portability is the decisive Switch 2 advantage
PS5 is a fixed home-console experience. You play it on the television or monitor connected to the console. Switch 2 can run the same Intergrade package in handheld mode, then continue in docked mode when you return to a television. For a long, story-driven action RPG, that flexibility can matter more than a resolution or lighting difference.
Choose Switch 2 when your routine looks like this
- You want to play in bed, while travelling or away from your main television.
- You already use Switch 2 as your primary gaming system and prefer one portable library.
- You value the ability to move between handheld and docked play without buying a second platform.
- You can accept softer image quality and less consistent performance than PS5.
Choose PS5 when your routine looks like this
- You play primarily on a television or monitor and do not need handheld access.
- You have a display where higher-detail textures, lighting and image quality are easy to see.
- You want the officially documented 60FPS Performance Mode option.
- You would rather avoid the visual and frame-rate compromises reported for the Switch 2 port.
Controller features and presentation options
Square Enix documents Photo Mode on PS5 and support for the PS5 DualSense controller’s haptic feedback integration. That gives the PS5 edition platform-specific presentation features beyond the basic ability to play the campaign. The documentation establishes haptic support for DualSense; it does not establish identical feature support on Switch 2 controllers.
Photo Mode is useful if you want to pause scenes, compose shots and examine the remake’s environments. DualSense haptics add tactile feedback during compatible actions and battles. These features do not alter the story or mission list, but they are part of the PS5 version’s premium presentation.

Is the Switch 2 version as good as PS5?
It is as complete in content, but not as strong technically. You receive the same campaign and Yuffie episode, so there is no story-based reason to prefer one edition. PS5 is the better version for fidelity: it offers the higher visual ceiling, an official 60FPS Performance Mode and documented DualSense features. Switch 2 is the better version for access: it is the one you can play in handheld mode and the one that fits a Nintendo-centered setup.

- Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade – The Ultimate Complete Strategy & Walkthrough Guide (New 2026 Edition) is the most comprehensive, up-to-date, and definitive companion every Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade player needs
The right comparison is therefore “same game, different priorities,” not “complete edition versus incomplete port.” If you sit close to a large 4K display, the PS5 improvements are easier to appreciate. If you mostly play away from a television, the Switch 2’s portability can outweigh those compromises.

For a first-time player
Buy the PS5 edition if you have access to both platforms and want the strongest technical presentation. Its modes are officially described, and the higher-fidelity option is the safer choice for a large-screen setup.
Buy the Switch 2 edition if handheld play is a requirement rather than a bonus. The content is complete, and you avoid having to reserve your play sessions for a television or monitor.

The Switch 2 edition’s reason to exist in your library is portability, not upgraded graphics. You would be buying the ability to play Intergrade away from the PS5 rather than a visual improvement. If you rarely play handheld, the PS5 version already supplies the more capable presentation.

For someone who already owns Switch 2
The port is a sensible way to access the complete Intergrade package on your existing hybrid system. Go in expecting a hardware-appropriate compromise: docked play is preferable when image quality matters, while handheld play is the reason to choose this edition in the first place.
What the evidence does—and does not—establish
Official Nintendo and Square Enix material establishes the Switch 2 product identity and inclusion of Intermission. PlayStation’s announcement establishes the PS5 release date and its Graphics and Performance mode descriptions. Square Enix’s support information establishes Photo Mode and DualSense haptic integration on PS5. Digital Foundry and TechRadar provide independent observations about Switch 2 image quality, lighting, textures, docked-versus-handheld presentation and frame-rate compromises.
There is no official, directly comparable Switch 2-versus-PS5 resolution table in the available material. That is why a single exact pixel count, a guaranteed Switch 2 frame rate or a claim of perfect mode parity would overstate what is known. Treat those details as variable technical behavior rather than fixed publisher specifications.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

If you buy on PS5
- Use Graphics Mode when maximum image detail is more important than motion smoothness.
- Use Performance Mode when you prefer smoother action and want the officially stated 60FPS priority.
- Enable the DualSense features if you want the documented haptic feedback integration.
- Use Photo Mode when you want to capture or inspect scenes without changing the campaign content.
If you buy on Switch 2
- Use docked mode when you are playing on a television and want the strongest presentation available from the port.
- Use handheld mode when portability is the priority, accepting that independent reviews find it softer than docked play.
- Do not assume a guaranteed 60FPS setting; the available official information does not promise one.
- Choose this edition for its hybrid flexibility, not because it matches PS5 image quality.
Bottom line
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is content-complete on both systems. PS5 is the fidelity-first choice: it has the stronger image quality, official Graphics and 60FPS-priority Performance modes, Photo Mode and documented DualSense haptics. Switch 2 is the flexibility-first choice: it includes the same Midgar and Intermission content and is the only one of the two that supports handheld play. Buy PS5 for the best large-screen presentation; buy Switch 2 if playing anywhere is worth the visual and performance compromises.
