FFmpeg command: loop the audio with a visual
This example loops both an audio file and a visual file, maps the visual’s video and the bowl recording’s audio into one output, then sends the stream to YouTube over RTMPS:

Despite the example name, the visual input must contain a video stream; use a short looping video or prepare a video file from a still image. Replace the destination with the RTMPS URL and stream key supplied for your YouTube broadcast. FFmpeg’s command-line and formats documentation describes its input/output model and RTMP muxing.
What the input and mapping flags do
-rereads file input at real-time pace, which is appropriate when feeding a live endpoint rather than processing the file as fast as possible.-stream_loop -1asks FFmpeg to repeat the following input indefinitely. Put it before that input’s-i; the example places it separately before both files.-map 1:v:0selects the first video stream from the second input, while-map 0:a:0selects the first audio stream from the first input.-f flvselects the output container commonly used for RTMP/RTMPS ingest. The destination URL must match the one YouTube gives you.
Confirm that your FFmpeg build supports the selected input formats and codecs. The example assumes the bowl file has an audio stream and the visual file has a video stream; FFmpeg will fail if the selected streams are absent.

Configure the YouTube encoder feed
- In YouTube Studio, open Create > Go live and set up or open the scheduled stream in Live Control Room.
- Find the encoder’s stream URL and stream key in the stream settings. Copy the RTMPS destination and key into the command, keeping the key private.
- Start FFmpeg. In Live Control Room, wait for the preview and check stream health. For a scheduled stream, YouTube may require you to click Go live after the preview appears.
- When finished, stop the encoder and end the broadcast in Live Control Room if the scheduled stream does not end automatically.
YouTube recommends RTMPS, the encrypted version of RTMP, for encoder streaming. Its encoder setup instructions describe entering the stream URL and key, sending the feed, and checking the Live Control Room. A stream key tells the encoder where to send the feed and allows YouTube to accept it; YouTube’s stream settings help explains managing it. Do not put the key in a public page, screenshot, repository, or shared command history. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and replace it in your command.
Encoder settings that matter for bowl audio
The example uses H.264 video and AAC audio, formats included in YouTube’s encoder guidance. At 30 frames per second, -g 60 sets a 60-frame GOP, or a two-second keyframe interval. YouTube recommends a two-second interval and says not to exceed four seconds for RTMP/RTMPS. Its guidance also recommends CBR, AAC or MP3 audio, 44.1 kHz for stereo, and 128 kbps for stereo audio. Check the current encoder settings guidance before publishing because platform specifications can change.

The sample command does not explicitly set a video bitrate or CBR rate-control mode. Choose a video bitrate within YouTube’s current recommendation for your output resolution and frame rate, and configure CBR if your FFmpeg build and chosen encoder support it. Verify the resulting stream’s health in Live Control Room rather than assuming the illustrative command is optimal for every file or connection.

The cited YouTube materials do not establish whether an audio-only RTMP encoder feed will be accepted as a Live broadcast. Include a static or looping visual track unless you have separately confirmed audio-only ingest for your setup.

Choose how to combine audio and video

YouTube’s cited encoder guidance does not prescribe one arrangement over the other. In either case, listen to the boundary between repetitions in the actual source. Documentation alone cannot establish that a loop will be seamless: check for clicks, silence, level changes, or mismatched durations. If needed, edit or crossfade the source before streaming, then listen to the encoded result.
Clear the recording’s rights before broadcasting
The sound’s subject does not determine who owns the recording. A Tibetan singing bowl performance or tone may be traditional, while a particular recording of it can still have its own rights holder. YouTube’s livestream terms say content providers represent that they have the necessary rights for live content, including music licensing rights. Use an original recording or one whose license explicitly permits the intended live broadcast and any archive, and keep a copy of the permission or license.

Plan for stream length and archiving
YouTube automatically archives streams shorter than 12 hours. A stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all, according to its live archive guidance. If keeping a complete recording matters, either plan shorter sessions or record a local backup. An external drive is optional storage for that copy; it is not required to run FFmpeg.
Troubleshooting common failures
- YouTube does not show a preview: Check that FFmpeg is still running, the RTMPS URL and private key match the stream settings, and the destination uses the protocol YouTube supplied. Read the Live Control Room status before changing codec options.
- FFmpeg reports that a mapped stream is missing: The file may not contain the stream selected by
-map. Inspect the inputs and adjust the input order or stream mapping; the example expects video on input 1 and audio on input 0. - The audio stops while the visual continues, or vice versa: The inputs may not have matching durations or may not both be looping as intended. Check that
-stream_loop -1precedes each relevant-iand test with the actual files. - The repeated bowl sound clicks or has a gap: The source file’s end and beginning may not join cleanly. Edit or crossfade that boundary and listen to the encoded output; looping an input does not itself guarantee a seamless join.
- The stream key has been exposed: Reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder command before sending another feed.
