1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor a startup building an API-first product, FastAPI is often the more natural fit: typed request and response models, validation, and generated API documentation are central to its design. For a broader, data-backed web application that benefits from an integrated framework and a built-in admin, Django is often the stronger starting point. Choose based on the product surface, the team’s existing expertise, its libraries and async needs, and the deployment environment—not on a promise that one framework is universally faster or cheaper.
FastAPI vs Django: the practical difference
FastAPI is a focused Python framework for building APIs. It uses Python type hints to support validation and API schemas, and its tooling can generate interactive documentation from those schemas. It builds on Starlette and Pydantic. Those capabilities make it a good match when the product is primarily a service consumed by web, mobile, or other clients. FastAPI’s overview and feature documentation describe its scope and tools.

Django is a broader web framework with an integrated set of conventions and components. Its model-oriented approach and built-in admin can help a team build a data-backed application and manage records without immediately creating internal CRUD screens. The admin is customizable, but it is a staff-facing tool—not a finished customer-facing product interface. See Django’s overview and admin reference.
Which framework fits your startup?
| Decision point | FastAPI is a stronger fit when… | Django is a stronger fit when… |
|---|---|---|
| Product surface | The product is mainly an API or service for web, mobile, or other clients. | You are building a data-backed web application and want an integrated framework foundation. |
| Data contracts | Typed request and response models, validation, and generated API documentation are core to development. | You prefer Django’s model-oriented conventions and want its admin for operational CRUD workflows. |
| Internal operations | You are comfortable choosing and integrating additional components as the product’s operational needs emerge. | A customizable model admin could help staff manage data without first building separate internal screens. |
| Async requirements | Async I/O benefits the actual endpoints, and the dependencies they use support that design. | Async is useful and the team can keep the relevant ASGI middleware and database paths compatible. |
| Team preferences | The team favors a focused API framework and explicit choices about integrations. | The team values an integrated web framework and its conventions. |
| Deployment | The team can operate an ASGI service and choose hosting suited to its requirements. | The team is comfortable choosing WSGI or ASGI and following Django’s production checklist. |
How much built-in application machinery do you want?
Choose FastAPI for an API-centered foundation
FastAPI puts API concerns near the center of the development model: type hints, validation, OpenAPI schemas, JSON Schema, interactive documentation, dependency injection, and security helpers. That can be useful when multiple clients depend on a well-defined API contract or when a team wants to assemble the rest of its application deliberately. The trade-off is that the team must decide which additional components it needs rather than expecting a broad framework to supply every part of the application foundation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose Django for an integrated web application
Django is designed for a wider web-application role. Its built-in admin can support staff workflows and early internal operations, subject to configuration, permissions, and customization. It can reduce the need to create a separate data-management interface immediately, but it does not replace designing the customer-facing product experience. Django also provides security and deployment guidance; applying those correctly remains part of building and operating the application. See its security guide.
Async support is not a simple deciding line
FastAPI supports both synchronous and asynchronous handlers. Django also supports async views and a growing set of async APIs, particularly when running under ASGI. Django’s async benefits depend on the execution stack: synchronous middleware or other synchronous components can require adaptation or limit how much of a request path is asynchronous. The relevant question is whether the team’s actual middleware, database access, and other libraries fit the intended execution model—not whether a framework is labeled “async.” Read Django’s async guidance and check compatibility across the dependencies your application will use.

Do not choose on an unverified performance promise
The official documentation reviewed does not establish a controlled head-to-head result for equivalent FastAPI and Django applications running on the same hardware, database, workload, and deployment. FastAPI’s own general performance assertions are not proof of how a particular startup’s product will perform. If latency or throughput is a binding requirement, build a representative endpoint and benchmark it with the expected traffic, database behavior, and infrastructure. A framework comparison alone cannot predict the result.

Neither framework removes the need to plan how the application will be served, secured, monitored, and recovered. FastAPI’s deployment concepts cover HTTPS, automatic startup, restarts, process replication, memory, and startup steps. Django’s deployment guide distinguishes WSGI and ASGI and advises against using its lightweight development server in production.

- Choose a production serving approach that matches the application’s execution model.
- Plan HTTPS, startup behavior, process restarts, and health checks.
- Account for the application’s memory use and whether process replication fits the host and workload.
- Review each framework’s production configuration and security guidance before launch.
Actual operating effort depends on the hosting environment, database, traffic, reliability requirements, and the team’s experience. The framework choice by itself does not establish a hosting cost or staffing advantage.

Django 5.2 was released on April 2, 2025 and designated a long-term support release, with security updates for at least three years from release. That does not mean Django 5.2 is necessarily the newest Django release in 2026. Before starting, verify the current Django version, its supported Python versions, and compatibility with the dependencies the project requires in the Django 5.2 release notes and the documentation for the version you plan to use. Pin and maintain a compatible application stack rather than treating an LTS label as a substitute for checking current support.

A decision process for an early-stage team
- Start with the product surface. If the first product is primarily an API serving several clients, evaluate FastAPI first. If it is a broader data-backed web application, evaluate Django first.
- List the application machinery you need now. Decide whether Django’s integrated framework and model admin solve real near-term needs, or whether FastAPI’s focused API capabilities and explicit integrations better fit the product.
- Check the team and dependency stack. Compare the team’s Python experience with the middleware, database access, and libraries the application will actually use, especially if async I/O matters.
- Validate the operational path. Confirm how the chosen framework will run in production, including serving, HTTPS, restarts, deployment configuration, and security.
- Prototype only where uncertainty matters. If performance is a requirement, benchmark a representative workload on the intended infrastructure. Do not treat general framework claims as a substitute.
