What is coming to Fallout 76, and when?
Bethesda Game Studios’ September 30, 2026 directors’ letter lays out the following plans. “Next spring” and “next year” are relative to that letter, so they mean spring 2027 and 2027 respectively.

The dates and feature descriptions in the table come from Bethesda’s September 2026 directors’ letter. Bethesda’s Fallout news index dates that letter to September 30 and separately lists World Pets public-test news from September 28.

World Pets is planned for December 2026. The system is intended to let a pet that normally lives at a player’s C.A.M.P. accompany them out in the world as a “C.A.M.P.-panion.” Bethesda says pets will become more capable by adventuring and leveling up alongside their owner. Existing interactions will carry over, with new commands including “Stay,” “Follow,” “Protect” and “Kill.”

Bethesda’s September 28 news listing says PC players could join the Public Test Server to try the latest World Pets changes and Skyline Valley bounty hunting. That is a test announcement, not a final release date or a guarantee that every tested feature will ship unchanged.
What is the Skyline Valley bounty update?
The winter roadmap pairs the return to Skyline Valley with bounty hunting. Bethesda says the bounties help explain why the Blue Ridge Caravan Company had to close operations in the region, and casts the area as a place to take a newly combat-hardened pet. The directors’ letter does not give a launch day or spell out the bounty rules.
What are Hideouts, and who is The Drifter?
Hideouts are planned for next spring. Bethesda describes them as dangerous encampments in abandoned areas, centered on taking down a prominent enemy. The encounters are intended to demand more from players than routine fights, encouraging teams to try different routes and strategies. The letter positions them, at most levels, between the early endgame and Raids.

A new “Marked” difficulty is planned for experienced teams seeking a greater challenge and rewards. Bethesda has not provided the precise difficulty rules or reward details in the letter.

The Drifter
The Drifter is introduced as a rival bounty hunter who tries to eliminate players and claim the rewards. Bethesda teases whether the character might be a rogue agent or an Enclave operative, but does not confirm either possibility.
What does the Raven Rock expansion add?
Bethesda says Fallout 76’s map will expand southeast toward the Capital Wasteland in 2027. The directors’ letter frames the story as taking place almost 200 years before Fallout 3 and says the destruction it references happened 27 years earlier. Those are the announcement’s story-chronology details, not an independently established calendar date.

Raven Rock is named in the roadmap, but the letter does not give a map size, exact release date, named quests, launch platforms or a complete list of locations. “Toward the Capital Wasteland” does not establish that any particular Fallout 3 location beyond Raven Rock will be included.
What other Fallout 76 improvements are planned?
The directors also say the team is working on Seasonal Events, rendering, weather, the new-player experience and fishing. They mention seasonal fish and rumors of a gold Axolotl. These are broad roadmap signals: the letter does not assign delivery dates or describe final implementations for each item.

What is confirmed—and what remains open?
- Announced targets: World Pets in December 2026, Hideouts next spring and Raven Rock in 2027.
- Specific features described: pets that accompany and level with players, Hideouts built around a prominent enemy, and a planned Marked difficulty.
- Still unspecified: exact release days, Raven Rock’s dimensions and quest details, and final implementation details for the broader improvement list.
