What are the current Facebook video requirements?
Meta announced on June 17, 2025, updated July 14, 2025, that Facebook would share all new videos as Reels, removing the choice between uploading a video and a Reel. The announcement says Facebook Reels have no length or format restrictions. Meta’s announcement is the primary statement of the change.

Facebook Help Center’s updated Reels discovery page likewise says Reels can be any length or orientation after the change. In practical terms, you do not need to meet one universal duration or aspect-ratio rule for an ordinary organic video based on these pages.
Organic video specifications Meta does not state universally
The official organic guidance reviewed does not specify one required resolution, codec, file container, frame rate, or maximum file size. Treat those values as unspecified in this guidance rather than relying on exact limits repeated by third-party pages, which may refer to other upload flows, old rules, or advertising placements.

Is the Facebook 90-second limit still current?
A Facebook Help Center page titled Create a reel on Facebook still says Reels can be up to 90 seconds. That wording conflicts with Meta’s later 2025 announcement and the updated Help Center discovery page, both of which say there is no length restriction. Because the 90-second text appears on an older page and its publication date is not shown, do not treat it as the universal current limit for Facebook videos.
What video size should you use?
For an organic Facebook post, the current official guidance does not require a single orientation: Meta says Reels may be any orientation. Use the framing that suits the footage and how viewers will watch it; do not mistake advertising creative recommendations for mandatory organic-upload dimensions.

For Reels ads, use the separate paid-creative guidance
For paid Reels advertising, Meta recommends vertical 9:16 video, audio, and keeping key messages within the safe zone so interface elements do not cover them. These are ad-creative recommendations, not a universal specification for ordinary organic videos. See Meta’s Reels ads guidance.

Facebook Help Center says captions can be added to videos posted to a profile or Page by uploading a SubRip caption file with the .srt extension. This is a caption workflow; it does not set the video’s resolution or encoding. Follow the steps in Facebook’s caption instructions and prepare the .srt file to match the spoken dialogue and timing.
