If Facebook Dating shows the wrong area, first check whether Facebook can access your phone’s location. That permission is separate from any location control inside Dating, and changing it does not guarantee a different displayed location or more matches. What a location change can—and cannot—do
Facebook Dating is an opt-in feature within the Facebook app, with a separate Dating profile. Meta’s 2020 privacy explanation says you can delete that profile without deleting your Facebook account. Use these steps if Facebook cannot access location or the area shown seems inconsistent. Labels can differ by operating-system version; use your phone’s Settings search if the wording or route has changed. These steps control Facebook’s device access, not a confirmed Dating location picker.

- Open your device’s Settings.
- Go to Apps, select Facebook, then open Permissions.
- Tap Location and choose the access level you want. Meta lists Allow only while using app, Ask every time, and Don’t allow.
iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings and go to Location Services.
- Select Facebook.
- Choose an available option. Meta lists While Using the App, Ask Next Time, and Never; available labels can vary with iOS.
Choose a permission level that fits your needs

Why location and suggestions may not match your expectations
Device permission is not necessarily the only location signal. In a 2019 explanation tied to Android 10 and iOS 13-era controls, Meta said location could also be inferred from check-ins, events, and internet connection information. That is a dated explanation, not a complete inventory of current signals or current operating-system guidance. Meta’s historical explanation of device location settings provides that context.
Location is also only one part of how Dating suggestions may be selected. Meta said in 2020 that suggestions could draw on preferences, interests, and information or activity from Dating and other Facebook products. That describes recommendation inputs, not a promise about match volume or outcomes. For current data-use details, consult Meta’s current privacy materials; the 2020 statement may not reflect every current practice.

What to do if the area still looks wrong
- Confirm Facebook’s location permission in your phone’s Settings and adjust it only if you want to grant that access.
- Look in the current Facebook app for a Dating-specific location control, if one is available to you. Its exact path and availability are not established by the cited Help Center guidance.
- If the app offers no relevant control, consult current Meta Help or in-app support instead of assuming that toggling permission resets Dating’s area.
Do not treat a VPN or GPS-spoofing app as an official or proven fix. The cited Meta sources do not establish that either is supported, necessary, or effective for changing Dating suggestions.
Privacy context for Facebook Dating
Meta’s 2020 account said Dating was opt-in, used a separate profile, and let users delete that profile without deleting their Facebook account. It also described profile details and controls, including that current Facebook friends were not suggested as potential matches and that users had controls around friends-of-friends suggestions. These are Meta’s statements from 2020, not a guarantee that every detail or label remains current. Review the current app and privacy information before relying on them.

Meta also reported in October 2020 that Facebook Dating had created more than 1.5 billion matches across 20 countries since launch. This is a historical company-reported total, not a current figure, success rate, or evidence that changing location improves results.
