“Wireless” in this 2015 research report means that energy-harvesting and energy-storage modules are joined without conventional connecting wires. It does not mean radio communication or charging a device on a wireless pad. The reported connection method is notable because the assembled devices continued to work when bent or twisted.
What “wireless” means in this report
The Royal Society of Chemistry’s 2015 summary describes a way to connect energy devices without the electrically conducting wires conventionally used to join modules. The approach brings energy-harvesting and storage components together in patterns; “wireless” describes their physical connection, not how they communicate or receive power from a charger. The Royal Society of Chemistry summary identifies the work as relevant to flexible electronics.

How the reported approach differs from wired assembly
The summary contrasts the method with conventional fabrication in which conducting wires connect modules. It characterizes that wired fabrication as complicated and costly, and notes short circuits as a safety concern. These are qualitative descriptions: the summary gives no numerical cost comparison, measured short-circuit rate, or controlled comparison of performance.

Instead of relying on those conventional wires, the reported method fuses modules into different patterns. The practical feature emphasized by the summary is that the resulting devices continue to function when bent or twisted—an attribute that could matter for flexible electronics. The available descriptions do not establish a particular bending radius, cycle count, output level, or operating lifetime.
#1 Best Overall
- Output current of receiving module: 5V/1000mA; Operating voltage of the transmitting module: 5V~12V
- Transmitter module size: 17mm*11mm*2.3mm; Transmitting and receiving coil size: Outer diameter 40mm thickness 1.8mm
- This product is designed for wireless charging and power supply for various small electronic products. It has the characteristics of small size, easy to use, and high efficiency
- Due to the use of a contactless charging power supply, the product can be completely sealed, waterproof, and dustproof, increasing its service life and making it more convenient to use
- It is mainly applicable to mobile electronic products such as mobile phones, game consoles, fish tanks, digital cameras, Electric shavers, learning machines, underwater supplies, and other products
What the evidence establishes—and what it does not
The underlying paper is H. Sun et al., “Energy harvesting and storage devices fused into various patterns,” published in Journal of Materials Chemistry A, volume 3 (2015), pages 14977–14984, DOI 10.1039/C5TA03235K. Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s publication list also records the paper under Hao Sun and coauthors.
The cited summary and university record support the description of a research method and its reported flexibility. They do not show that a consumer product or commercial system is available, and they provide no performance figures suitable for comparing it with other systems. The full paper would be needed to assess experimental details beyond the publisher’s summary.
