The Elegoo Centauri 2 Combo pairs a 256 × 256 × 256 mm build volume with CANVAS, Elegoo’s filament-handling system. Its value depends on whether you will use multicolor printing: buyers who need an enclosure for more demanding materials may be better served by another model.
What you get with the Centauri 2 Combo
The Centauri 2 Combo is an open-frame CoreXY FDM printer bundled with Elegoo’s CANVAS system. Its build volume is 256 × 256 × 256 mm, according to Elegoo’s product page accessed October 7, 2026, and Tom’s Hardware’s August 21, 2026 review. That gives you room for many household objects, decorations and toys, while CANVAS enables prints using up to four colors.

Elegoo advertises full-auto calibration and up to 500 mm/s printing speed. Its June 24, 2026 launch announcement also claims up to 20,000 mm/s² acceleration, a 350°C maximum nozzle temperature and a 110°C heated bed. These are manufacturer specifications, not a promise that typical prints will run at the maximum speed or that every material suited to those temperatures will print reliably on an open-frame machine.
Tom’s Hardware lists PLA, PETG and TPU among supported materials, along with a direct-drive extruder, 0.4 mm hardened-steel nozzle, heated PEI-coated flexible plate, Wi-Fi, LAN and USB connectivity, and automatic bed leveling that includes Z offset. The same review reports that the machine ships mostly assembled, runs an initial self-check and calibration, and presents an intuitive touchscreen interface.

How much does it cost?
Price depends on when and where you buy. Elegoo’s US product page displayed $329 with $379 struck through when accessed October 7, 2026. Shipping is calculated separately, and the display is not a guaranteed checkout price. Tom’s Hardware reported a $319 US sale price when its review was published on August 21, 2026; that is a historical price, not a current offer.
For context, Tom’s Hardware listed the Centauri Carbon at $309, the Centauri Carbon 2 at $329 and the Carbon 2 Combo at $379 at the time of its August 2026 review. Those review-time prices do not establish today’s prices. Check the current price of each model in your market before deciding whether CANVAS is worth the difference.

What CANVAS adds—and what it asks of you
CANVAS is the main reason to choose the Combo over a single-color printer. Elegoo describes four-color printing, automatic recognition of Elegoo-tagged filament through RFID, automatic refill when an identical spool runs out, and tangle prevention. With filament that lacks RFID recognition, Tom’s Hardware says you must choose the filament type and color manually.

In its hands-on testing, Tom’s Hardware found that CANVAS worked well for multicolor printing and that the default purge settings appeared tuned to limit wasted filament. The reviewer also encountered confusion when assigning spool positions three and four, and found that some brands’ spools did not fit the holders. Elegoo says the holders accommodate spools with 53–58 mm inner diameters; larger inner diameters require a printed adapter. Check spool fit and filament details before loading a third-party roll.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.

Four-color output also adds workflow and setup considerations compared with printing a single color. If most of your projects use one filament color, the bundled system may not deliver enough practical benefit to justify its cost and added complexity.
Print quality, materials and the open-frame trade-off
Tom’s Hardware reports that its tested PLA multicolor prints looked good and that it also completed PETG prints successfully. Its TPU results were more mixed: an unusually soft, lightweight TPU clogged in the gears; after clearing the issue, the reviewer printed a TPU boomerang with some stringing. These are observations from the review’s test unit and settings, not a guarantee of results with every filament.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
TPU also has a special setup on this printer. Elegoo’s instructions say to install the included Flexible Filament Adapter model and guide, then disconnect the CANVAS cable before printing TPU. Do not assume that TPU runs through CANVAS as a normal four-color workflow.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe more consequential limitation for some buyers is the open frame. It may be fine for common PLA projects, but Tom’s Hardware cautions that an enclosure can matter for more practical prints and materials such as ASA. The advertised nozzle and bed temperature ceilings do not make an open printer an easy or suitable choice for every heat-sensitive or demanding filament. If you expect to print such materials regularly, prioritize an enclosed design rather than choosing on temperature specifications alone.

Who should buy it?
- Consider it if you want four-color prints, expect to use CANVAS often, and can work within an open-frame printer’s material limitations.
- Look elsewhere if an enclosure is important to your intended materials, you mainly print single-color parts, or you do not want to manage spool compatibility and filament selection.
- Compare it with other Centauri models using current local prices, frame design, build volume and whether the included multicolor system will be useful to you. Historical prices from a review are not a reliable substitute for a live comparison.
Verdict
The Centauri 2 Combo is a compelling way to get a large 256 mm cubed build area and four-color printing in one open-frame package. Tom’s Hardware’s reviewer favored it for colorful toys, decor and gadgets, while noting that other Centauri models complicate the value comparison; that is the reviewer’s assessment, not an objective ranking. For buyers who will use CANVAS, the system is the case for paying more. For buyers who need an enclosure or rarely print in multiple colors, the Combo’s defining feature may not justify its cost.
