The Electrolux EHI955BD is a 90cm, five-zone induction cooktop with a large centre MaxiZone, two linked left-side zones it calls FlexZone, and a hardwired 11kW electrical connection. Whether it suits a kitchen depends mainly on three things: whether your bench cutout matches the listed 880 × 490mm, whether your site can supply the required electrical load, and whether your cookware is induction-compatible. Independent test results for this model are not publicly available, and CHOICE lists it as discontinued.
This assessment is based on the manufacturer’s product page, the CHOICE listing, retailer and review-site pages, and the model’s manual index. It is not based on hands-on cooking tests, so it does not report how the cooktop performs in use.

The five cooking zones
The zone layout is the main design feature of this model. Power and diameter figures below come from Electrolux’s published specifications.
#1 Best Overall
- 【Bridge Function for Flexible Cooking】Redefine your culinary workspace with our innovative Bridge Function. This feature enables the induction cooker to operate as a single large zone or two separate zones, accommodating various cookware sizes. Dual inductors in each zone maintain even power distribution, enhancing efficiency by deactivating unused sections, ensuring a seamless and safe cooking experience.
- 【Precise Slide Touch Control】In contrast to the traditional touch control design, you can easily adjust the power level and other functions of the double induction stove by sliding the long bar in the control area. The sensitive sliding touch control is simple and easy to use for a better cooking experience.
- 【Mulitple Safety Functions】Prioritizing your safety, this electric cooktop is equipped with an automatic shut-off feature that activates once cooking is complete, preventing any unattended kitchen accidents. Additionally, the safety lock prevents unintentional activation by children to protect your family from potential hazards.
- 【Simplified Cooking Modes】Dive into a seamless cooking experience with our induction cooktop's three preset modes: 'Melt', 'Keep Warm', and 'Simmer'. Each mode is specifically designed to maintain the perfect temperature without the need for constant adjustment, ensuring your meals are consistently cooked to perfection. This feature allows you to modify cooking times on the go for consistently perfect outcomes.
- 【9 Power Levels for Precise Cooking】Master any recipe with 9 distinct power levels up to 1800W for rapid heating. The advanced power management system of our electric burner ensures that when both zones are in use, the output does not exceed 1800W, maintaining efficient energy usage while accommodating diverse cooking requirements.
| Zone | Position | Diameter | Power |
|---|---|---|---|
| MaxiZone | Centre | 280mm | 3500W |
| Left front | Left, front | 210mm | 2300W (3200W boost) |
| Left rear | Left, rear | 210mm | 2300W |
| Right front | Right, front | 145mm | 1400W |
| Right rear | Right, rear | 180mm | 1800W |
The nominal zone size is a starting point, not a guarantee of fit. Base geometry, flat-bottomed cookware and how far a pan can extend beyond the zone marking all affect how well a pan heats. Check your own pans against the zone markings on the glass before relying on a particular size.
Fit and electrical requirements
Because the EHI955BD is hardwired, it is a renovation-level purchase rather than a plug-in swap. Work through these checks before ordering:
- Measure the existing cutout. The listed opening is 880 × 490mm. Compare it with the product dimensions above and the installation sections in the manual.
- Confirm the supply. The model is rated at 11kW connected load with a maximum of 45A. Ask a licensed electrician to confirm that the existing circuit and supply meet these figures and your local installation rules.
- Plan the wiring. Because the connection is hardwired, the appliance will need a qualified electrician for installation. Do not assume a standard power outlet will work.
- Review the manual. The ManualsLib listing for the Electrolux EHI955BD Installation & User Manual identifies the installation and safety sections for this model. Read these before you commit to a cutout or electrical plan.
Cookware compatibility
Induction cooktops work only with magnetic cookware. Appliances Online states that induction models are compatible only with cookware made from magnetic material (Appliances Online listing). A simple test is to hold a magnet to the base of the pan: if it sticks firmly, the pan will usually work on induction. Cast iron and most magnetic stainless steel pans qualify; aluminium and copper pans generally do not unless they have a magnetic base layer.

- Wipe away cleaning time with the induction cooktop: Unlike traditional electric and gas cooktops, Induction only heats the pan and the food in it, so the area around the pan stays cooler to the touch, allowing you to clean up spills and splatters while you cook.
- Get amazingly fast results with induction: With induction, heat transfers directly to the cookware and not the cooktop surface, making induction incredibly fast.
- Avoid over and undercooking your food with TempLock: Sensors in the cooktop automatically adjust the power level to maintain a consistent temperature the entire time you cook - it's like cruise control for your cooktop.
- Maximize cooktop space with the convenient bridge element: Connects two elements to create a larger cooking surface, perfect for a griddle or large pan.
- Even heat delivers consistent results: Induction delivers steady, even heat across the surface of your pan so you get consistent results every time.
For large pans, check the base diameter against the MaxiZone and FlexZone sizes rather than the overall pan size. Oversized pans may heat unevenly if their base does not sit over the coil.
Cooking features
MaxiZone
The 280mm centre zone at 3500W is the largest on the cooktop. Electrolux positions it for larger pans and cookware such as big stockpots or wide frying pans.
FlexZone
Electrolux says the two left-side zones can be joined to form a single larger cooking surface. This is useful for a plancha or a large roasting pot. The joined surface makes sense only if your cookware base covers both zones evenly.

Controls and convenience
Electrolux lists 14-stage touch-and-slide controls, a Stop & Go/keep-warm function, a timer and minute minder, auto warm-up, auto pot detection, power boost, and automatic switch-off. Auto pot detection means a zone only heats when a suitable pan is present.

What owner and retailer ratings show
Ratings can point to general satisfaction, but they do not measure reliability for this model.
- Electrolux Australia: displays a 4.4 average from 93 reviews. This is a manufacturer-hosted snapshot, not an independent test score.
- Appliances Online: displays a 4.5 average from 89 reviews. The page notes that its reviews may include feedback on current or previous models. Visible comments praise ease of cleaning, control and boost, while one reviewer reports an uneven cooktop and a delay in replacement.
- ProductReview.com.au: shows one owner review. The author reports that after about five years two zones developed intermittent E8 faults that later would not clear. Electrolux replied inviting the owner to make direct contact. This is one owner’s account and does not establish typical lifespan or how common the fault is.
Taken together, these sources show mixed reports and no independent reliability rate. Anyone assessing long-term dependability should ask the retailer or Electrolux for the warranty terms and any known service history for the model.
Availability and price
CHOICE’s listing for the Electrolux EHI955BD review page marks the model as discontinued. It shows a displayed price of A$1,699, but that figure is historical context rather than a current offer. The listing gives a two-year warranty, five zones and an 11kW maximum output, and states that the tested years run to 2023 or earlier. The detailed expert rating, cooking performance, ease-of-use, heat-setting and boil-time results are available only to CHOICE members, so this article does not report them.
