Then update and restart Edge, clear cached images and files if page rendering is also broken, and try Screenshot’s other capture mode. These are sensible troubleshooting steps, not a guaranteed repair: Microsoft does not document a specific cause or a guaranteed fix for blank captures.
Microsoft now calls the feature Screenshot; Web Capture is its former name. The current tool can capture a selected area or a full page, then lets you copy or save the result. Microsoft notes that availability and functionality can vary by device, market, and browser version.

1. Check whether the webpage itself is blank
- Open or reload the page in Edge and wait for it to finish loading. Check whether its text and images are visible before taking a capture.
- If the page is blank in Edge too, try reloading it and check whether it works in another browser. That helps distinguish a page or network problem from a capture problem; it does not establish the cause.
- If the page displays normally but the saved image is blank, continue with the browser checks below.
Microsoft’s general Edge troubleshooting guidance recommends checking page loading and using another browser as a diagnostic. It does not identify a specific cause for a blank Screenshot result. See Microsoft’s Edge troubleshooting steps.
2. Update and restart Edge
- In Edge, open Settings and more (the three-dot menu), then go to Settings > About Microsoft Edge.
- Install an update if Edge offers one, then close and restart the browser.
- Reopen the affected webpage and try Screenshot again.
Microsoft recommends updating and restarting Edge for browser problems generally; it does not promise these steps specifically fix blank captures. Microsoft’s troubleshooting guidance covers these general checks.

3. Clear cached images and files if the page also renders incorrectly
Do this when ordinary page display is wrong as well as when the capture is blank. Clearing cached images and files can sometimes resolve display problems, according to Microsoft, but it is not a documented, capture-specific fix.
- Open Settings and more > Settings > Privacy, search, and services.
- Under Clear browsing data, choose Choose what to clear.
- Select the cached images and files option, clear that data, reload the affected page, and check its display before capturing again.
Avoid starting with an indiscriminate clearing of all browsing data: it may remove more data than needed. Microsoft says clearing cached data sometimes fixes display issues.
4. Retry with Screenshot’s other capture mode
Edge Screenshot supports two modes. Switching modes is a useful diagnostic, not a Microsoft-documented cure for blank output.

Open Screenshot from the right-click menu or Edge’s Settings menu, or press Ctrl+Shift+S. Choose the alternate mode, then use the overlay’s copy or save control. Microsoft says Screenshot supports both modes; available functionality can vary by device, market, and browser version. Microsoft’s Screenshot feature page describes the tool.
5. Check whether a work or school policy controls Screenshot
On a managed device, an administrator may control whether Screenshot is enabled through the WebCaptureEnabled Edge policy. If the feature is unavailable or behaves differently on a work or school device, ask your organization’s Edge administrator whether this policy applies. Do not change a managed policy without authorization. Microsoft’s policy documentation lists WebCaptureEnabled as the policy for Screenshot, formerly called Web Capture.
6. Send feedback if the saved capture is still blank
If the checks above do not resolve it, report the problem to Microsoft from Edge: Settings and more > Help and feedback > Send feedback. Include the affected site, your Edge version, whether you used selected-area or full-page capture, and the steps that reproduce the blank result. Preserve readable content with printing or Immersive Reader
If your immediate goal is to keep the page’s text rather than repair Screenshot, try Edge’s print workflow. Where a site supports it, Immersive Reader may help with some print presentation problems.
