Server provisioning and import
EasyEngine’s server-management workflow can import an Ubuntu server over SSH or provision a new server through AWS, DigitalOcean or Hetzner. The documentation describes preconfigured NGINX, PHP and caching tools, server-health and performance graphs, firewall protection, SSH-key management, server logs and an activity timeline. The documentation says any Ubuntu server can be added, while dashboard provisioning currently requires Ubuntu 24.04.
Site administration
EE Sites treats each WordPress, PHP or HTML website as a managed site on your VPS. The dashboard capabilities listed for sites include SSL, caching, PHP-version management, backups, SSH/SFTP, firewall controls, logs, monitoring and developer tools. This is useful when you want a repeatable site layout without giving up access to the machine itself.
Operational visibility and integrations
EasyEngine lists live NGINX, PHP and WordPress logs, usage and system statistics, server-health graphs and New Relic integration. It also documents integrations with GitHub and cloud providers. Permanent activity logs give administrators a record of changes, which can matter when several people deploy or troubleshoot sites.
What ServerPilot is
ServerPilot is a hosted management layer that you connect to a server at the cloud provider of your choice. You retain root access and ownership of the server while ServerPilot supplies the control plane for applications and the web stack.
NGINX at the edge, Apache for compatibility
ServerPilot documents NGINX as the public-facing web server and Apache internally. That arrangement preserves compatibility with WordPress sites and plugins that expect .htaccess or Apache’s mod_rewrite, while NGINX handles incoming HTTP traffic. The platform also supports HTTP/2 and HTTP/3.
Applications, PHP and databases
You can create multiple applications, choose among supported PHP versions and adjust PHP-FPM process capacity. The documented platform includes MySQL, one-click WordPress installation, application migration, an API and root access. Because applications run as separate system users with filesystem access controls, a problem in one app is less likely to expose every other app on the same server.

Certificates and updates
ServerPilot documents AutoSSL certificates from Let’s Encrypt, automated updates, an iptables firewall and no exposed management ports. PHP processes run without root privileges. These controls reduce routine infrastructure work, but they do not make a WordPress installation automatically safe: plugins, themes, administrator credentials and custom code remain your responsibility.
Control model: decide who operates the VPS
The most important difference is not the logo or the dashboard; it is the operating model.
Choose EasyEngine’s model when you want direct infrastructure control
- You are comfortable with Ubuntu, SSH keys, DNS, firewall rules and cloud-provider consoles.
- You want to import an existing Ubuntu server or provision one through a supported provider.
- You prefer an NGINX-centered stack with MariaDB, Redis and WP-CLI already represented in the workflow.
- You need documented backup files and a dashboard restore action.
- Your organization needs roles, site/server permissions and a permanent activity timeline.
You still own patching decisions, VPS sizing, provider availability and the consequences of changing system configuration. EasyEngine reduces repetitive administration; it does not remove the need for an operator who understands the host.
Choose ServerPilot’s model when you want a provider-neutral control plane
- You already have a preferred cloud provider and do not want your management tool tied to one vendor.
- You need one-click WordPress deployment, app migration and several PHP versions.
- You value Apache compatibility for existing
.htaccessrules or plugins. - You want application isolation, automated infrastructure updates and AutoSSL handled centrally.
- You need an API or root access for automation and lower-level administration.
ServerPilot still leaves the server account, VPS capacity, provider snapshots and operating-system context in your hands. It is managed software for the server, not managed hosting of your WordPress business.

Hosting multiple WordPress sites on one VPS
Both approaches can consolidate several sites on one machine. Consolidation lowers the number of servers to maintain, but it also concentrates resource demand and failure risk.
How to plan capacity
- List each site’s traffic pattern, PHP workload, database size, scheduled jobs and media-processing needs.
- Reserve memory for the operating system, web stack, database, object cache and PHP workers before assigning capacity to WordPress.
- Check whether one site can consume all CPU, memory, disk I/O or database connections during a spike.
- Set a backup and restore test before moving production sites, not after a failure.
- Monitor per-site behavior and move unusually busy or risky sites to a separate VPS.
ServerPilot’s separate application users and filesystem ACLs provide an explicit isolation boundary. EasyEngine’s dashboard provides site and server controls, but the available product description does not establish an equivalent per-application isolation design; verify the current implementation if hard isolation is a requirement.

When one VPS is the wrong boundary
Separate servers are safer for unrelated clients, sites with very different traffic profiles, applications with conflicting PHP requirements or any installation whose outage would take down every property. A control panel cannot eliminate a single-server failure domain.
Security responsibilities and practical hardening
Both products automate important infrastructure controls, but security has two layers.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteInfrastructure layer
- EasyEngine documents firewall threat blocking, SSH-key administration, activity logs, server logs and backup controls.
- ServerPilot documents an iptables firewall, automated updates, no exposed management ports, unprivileged PHP workers, app isolation through separate users and filesystem ACLs, and AutoSSL.
- For either product, restrict administrative access, remove unused accounts, use strong unique credentials and monitor failed logins.
WordPress application layer
Keep WordPress core, plugins and themes current; remove software you no longer use; limit administrator accounts; require multifactor authentication where available; and review custom code before deployment. ServerPilot explicitly notes that plugin and theme choices substantially affect WordPress security. The same principle applies to sites managed with EasyEngine.
Backups are not a firewall
A secure server can still suffer a compromised administrator account, malicious plugin, accidental deletion or provider outage. Maintain copies outside the VPS, protect backup credentials separately and periodically restore a site to a clean environment. A backup that has never been restored is an assumption, not a recovery plan.
Backups, restores and disaster recovery
EasyEngine’s documented workflow
EasyEngine explicitly lists S3-compatible manual and daily backups, downloadable backup files and one-click restore. This gives you a visible workflow for creating a recovery point, retaining it outside the server and starting a restore from the dashboard. Confirm retention, storage limits and whether database, uploads and configuration are included in the selected backup job.
ServerPilot’s responsibility boundary
ServerPilot’s feature material emphasizes server and application management rather than a comparable built-in backup schedule. Plan to use your cloud provider’s snapshot or backup service, or a separate backup system, and verify what your selected ServerPilot plan currently includes. Test both a complete server recovery and a single-application restore; they are different failure scenarios.

A recovery checklist for either platform
- Define the maximum acceptable data loss and downtime for each site.
- Keep at least one recent copy in storage that is independent of the VPS.
- Record DNS, domain, TLS, database and deployment credentials in a secure password manager.
- Document the PHP version, plugins, theme, cron jobs and external integrations for every production site.
- Perform a scheduled restore exercise and record the time, errors and corrective actions.
Monitoring, logs and troubleshooting
EasyEngine’s operational view
EasyEngine lists live NGINX, PHP and WordPress logs, usage and system statistics, health and performance graphs, an activity timeline and New Relic integration. Those signals help you connect a deployment or configuration change with an increase in errors, CPU use or response time.
ServerPilot’s plan-dependent metrics
ServerPilot includes log viewing and resource metrics on Business and First Class plans. First Class adds app, request and MySQL metrics. If you need detailed per-request diagnosis, include the tier requirement in your cost calculation rather than assuming every plan exposes the same telemetry.
A repeatable incident path
- Confirm whether the failure affects one application or the whole VPS.
- Check HTTP status codes, PHP errors, database connectivity and disk space.
- Compare the incident time with the activity log, deployment history and scheduled jobs.
- Disable or roll back the most recent plugin, theme or configuration change in a controlled way.
- Restore from a known-good backup only after preserving logs and identifying the likely trigger.
Do not treat a graph as a diagnosis. A high load average can come from PHP workers, database locks, backups, crawlers or disk contention; the corrective action differs in each case.

EasyEngine documents admin, manager and member roles, organization settings, site/server permissions and permanent activity logs. That model is useful when a company wants developers to work on sites without giving everyone unrestricted server control.
ServerPilot’s retrieved documentation establishes root access and an API but does not establish an equivalent granular role system. If several people need access, define who owns the ServerPilot account, how API tokens are stored, who can use root, and how changes are logged. You may need an external identity, ticketing or audit process to fill gaps in team governance.

| Plan | Server charge | Application charge | Documented additions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Economy | $5 per server | $0.50 per app | Server management, free SSL, one-click WordPress, firewall, automated updates, app isolation and multiple apps. |
| Business | $10 per server | $1 per app | Adds logs and resource metrics. |
| First Class | $20 per server | $2 per app | Adds app, request and MySQL metrics plus higher-priority support. |
For example, ten applications on one server would incur the listed server fee plus ten app fees; the exact amount depends on plan and billed hours. More servers multiply the fixed component, while more applications multiply the variable component.
The available EasyEngine material links to plans and pricing but does not state a directly comparable numeric schedule. Check EasyEngine’s current billing page immediately before purchase. Include your VPS, object storage, snapshots, monitoring, backups, support and engineering time in the total—not just the control-panel line item.
Performance: architecture is not a benchmark
EasyEngine’s NGINX-first stack and ServerPilot’s NGINX-fronted, Apache-compatible stack can both serve fast WordPress sites. A declared winner would be misleading without the same provider, VPS size, CPU generation, storage, PHP version, WordPress build, plugin set, cache state, geographic test points and traffic model.
Measure your own workload. Test uncached and cached pages, logged-in requests, admin actions, image-heavy pages, database queries and background jobs. Record response percentiles, error rates, CPU, memory, PHP-worker saturation, database latency and disk I/O. Repeat after changing one variable at a time.
Which one is easier for a non-admin?
ServerPilot generally presents the gentler starting path when the user wants a hosted dashboard, one-click WordPress and fewer web-stack decisions. EasyEngine can also simplify provisioning, but its self-hosted orientation assumes more willingness to understand Ubuntu, SSH and the server beneath the dashboard.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
“Easier” changes once a site fails. An operator comfortable with NGINX, logs and command-line recovery may find EasyEngine more transparent. Someone who values centralized application setup, Apache compatibility and plan-based metrics may prefer ServerPilot. In both cases, learn DNS, TLS, PHP memory limits, database backups and WordPress update practices before putting a revenue-critical site online.
Migration and setup decision paths
Starting a new EasyEngine server
- Prepare an Ubuntu VPS and confirm that its region, storage and memory fit the expected WordPress workload.
- Use EasyEngine’s documented import path over SSH, or provision through the supported AWS, DigitalOcean or Hetzner workflow. Dashboard-provisioned servers currently require Ubuntu 24.04.
- Configure SSH keys, firewall rules, DNS and the server’s administrative access.
- Create an EE Site for WordPress, select the required PHP version, enable SSL and caching, and confirm database and object-cache behavior.
- Set an S3-compatible backup destination, create a backup and perform a test restore before migration.
- Move DNS only after checking logs, cron jobs, email dependencies and a rollback plan.
Starting a new ServerPilot-managed server
- Create or select a VPS with your preferred cloud provider and keep root access available.
- Connect the server to ServerPilot’s hosted control plane and choose the supported PHP version for each application.
- Create an application, use one-click WordPress or migrate an existing site, and confirm the database and document root.
- Verify AutoSSL, firewall behavior, application-user permissions and the PHP-FPM process allocation.
- Configure provider snapshots or an independent backup service; do not assume that application management alone is a backup policy.
- Test the site on a temporary hostname, inspect logs and metrics available on your plan, then update DNS.
Moving between the two
Plan the move as a WordPress migration, not a button click. Export the database and files, lower DNS TTL ahead of the cutover, reproduce PHP and rewrite requirements, test staging, freeze writes during the final synchronization and keep the old server available until DNS propagation and application checks are complete. Reissue certificates and verify cron, outbound mail, webhooks and scheduled backups after the move.
Decision guide
| If this describes you | Better starting fit | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| You want an NGINX-centered Ubuntu workflow and explicit S3-compatible restore controls. | EasyEngine | Its documented features emphasize self-managed provisioning/import, backups, logs and team permissions. |
| You want to keep your cloud provider but outsource the control-plane work. | ServerPilot | It is provider-agnostic and retains root access while managing applications. |
You rely on Apache .htaccess or mod_rewrite behavior. |
ServerPilot | Its NGINX-plus-internal-Apache design is documented for that compatibility. |
| You need granular organization roles and a permanent activity timeline. | EasyEngine | Those controls are explicitly documented. |
| You need advanced app, request and MySQL metrics. | ServerPilot First Class | Those metrics are listed for that tier. |
| You need a published numeric price for modeling many small apps. | ServerPilot | The server-plus-app schedule is public; EasyEngine’s comparable current figures must be verified. |
Bottom line
EasyEngine is the stronger fit for hands-on operators who want an NGINX-first, self-hosted WordPress VPS workflow with documented backups, restores, logs, monitoring and team controls. ServerPilot is the stronger fit for teams that want a provider-agnostic hosted control plane, one-click WordPress, Apache compatibility, multiple PHP versions, app isolation and transparent per-server/per-app billing. Choose based on control and recovery responsibilities first, then validate plan limits, VPS capacity and your own measured workload. Neither platform removes the need to secure WordPress itself or to test backups.
