On PS5, Dune: Awakening gives you basic control customization: an alternate preset layout or some remapping, plus adjustable stick sensitivity and stick inversion. It is not documented as a full button-by-button rebind. The most notable known input bug is on the map, where D-pad left/right can stop responding. Pressing A/Cross or closing and reopening the map is Funcom’s workaround.
What you can customize on PS5
The PlayStation Store’s accessibility details for Dune: Awakening (checked October 7, 2026) label controller remapping as “Basic.” The listing says: “You can change the controls to an alternate pre-set layout, or some remapping support is provided.” It also lists adjustable stick sensitivity and adjustable stick inversion.

- Alternate preset layout: a ready-made arrangement you can switch to.
- Some remapping: the listing says support is provided, but it does not say which actions can be rebound.
- Stick sensitivity and inversion: both are listed as adjustable.
The Store listing does not give the in-game menu path for these options. I won’t invent one. Look through the game’s pause/settings menus for the controls and accessibility sections. Don’t assume every action can be moved to any button.
The game was built for console input. Erling Ellingsen, Chief Marketing Officer at Funcom, wrote in a PlayStation.Blog post dated July 2, 2026: “UI and controls have been tailored to the console experience.” Bandai Namco Europe’s September 17, 2026 head-start announcement likewise says controls and UI were adapted for console.

Optional: controller-level profiles with DualSense Edge
If you own a DualSense Edge, PlayStation Support documents custom profiles with button assignments and stick sensitivity/deadzone settings. This is a separate layer from the game’s own options. You don’t need it to play, and it won’t fix a bug inside the game.
Fixing common input issues, in order
Work from the narrowest, most game-specific cause to the broadest. That avoids resetting hardware to fix a software bug.

1. D-pad left/right stops working on the map
Funcom’s Known Issues page (stated as updated September 24, 2026) lists D-pad left and right ceasing to work while viewing the Map. The workaround is to press A/Cross, or close and reopen the map. Treat it as a game bug, not a hardware fault, especially if the D-pad works everywhere else. Patches can change its status, so check that page if the workaround stops helping.

2. Text appears instead of button icons
Funcom says unsupported controllers may display text strings instead of button icons. That is a glyph or compatibility issue and doesn’t by itself mean a button is broken. Confirm by testing whether the button actually performs its action.

PC note: Funcom states that PS5 controllers are only supported on PC with Steam Input enabled, and it recommends a wired connection. That applies to the PC version only. Native PS5 players don’t configure Steam Input.
3. Problems that follow the controller outside the game
If buttons, sticks or connection misbehave in other games or the PS5 home screen, the fault is likely the controller or its firmware, not Dune: Awakening. PlayStation Support’s guidance:

- Update the controller. DualSense software updates come with PS5 system software updates. To check manually, go to Settings > Accessories > Controller (General) > DualSense Wireless Controller Device Software.
- Reset the controller. Turn off the PS5. Use a pin or similar tool to press the reset button on the controller’s back. Connect the controller to the console with a USB cable, then press the PS button.
- Seek repair. If button, stick or connection problems persist, PlayStation Support points you to PlayStation Repairs.
Skip the reset for the map D-pad bug. It is unrelated to controller hardware.

- Select a server near you.
- Run Settings > Network > Test Internet Connection.
- Use wired Ethernet if possible.
- Restart your router/modem.
- Check your NAT type and PlayStation Network status.
- Fully close and restart the game instead of suspending it.
- Install any available console updates.
A quick way to tell the difference: if menus and the map respond instantly but actions in the world lag, suspect the network. If buttons are unresponsive everywhere, including menus and other games, suspect the controller.
