The available reports do not verify the headline figures of 101 people held, six states covered, or ₹17 crore in suspected fraud. They describe a different TGCSB operation: 81 arrests across five states in October 2025, linked by investigators to suspected fraudulent transactions worth about ₹95 crore. The two sets of figures should not be treated as the same operation without further confirmation.

What the reports say happened

PTI reported that Telangana’s Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) conducted a coordinated operation over 25 days in October 2025, arresting 81 people, including seven women. The Week’s PTI report says the arrests were connected to 41 cases registered under seven TGCSB cybercrime police stations.

Investigators reportedly traced 754 crime links nationwide, including 128 linked to Telangana, and estimated that the suspected fraud associated with them was about ₹95 crore. The figure is an investigative estimate reported by news outlets, not a final court finding or proof that the full amount was lost.

Which states were covered?

The operation was reported across Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. The News Minute’s IANS report gives this arrest distribution:

State Reported arrests
Kerala 28
Maharashtra 23
Karnataka 13
Andhra Pradesh 10
Tamil Nadu 7

The state counts total 81. They describe the arrests reported for this five-state operation, not six states.

What roles and materials did reports describe?

The PTI account describes people allegedly performing different roles in the financial networks:

Rank #2

Mastering Internal Controls and Fraud Prevention
  • 78 pages (45 self-teaching + 33 quizzes/answers)
  • Seventeen of those arrested were identified as agents.
  • Eleven were reportedly involved in cheque and cash withdrawals totalling ₹34,70,900.
  • Fifty-three were described as mule account holders who received commissions of up to five per cent of the fraudulent amounts transacted through their accounts.

Authorities reportedly seized 84 mobile phones, 101 SIM cards, and 89 bank passbooks and cheque books. These are reported seizure figures; they do not establish that every seized item was used in a crime.

Telangana Today attributed a statement to TGCSB Director Shikha Goel saying that facilitators supplying bank accounts, mobile numbers, SIM cards and financial channels had been identified and arrested. She said the bureau aimed to disrupt the infrastructure supporting large-scale financial fraud. Telangana Today’s report carries the statement.

Why the headline figures should be treated separately

The figures in the supplied headline—101 people held, six states and ₹17 crore—are not confirmed by the available reports about the October 2025 operation. Those reports instead describe 81 arrests in five states and about ₹95 crore in suspected fraud. Without a report or official statement tying the headline’s figures to a separate operation, it would be misleading to combine them or present either set as a correction of the other.

When checking a report about a similar sweep, compare the operation date, arrest count, states, cases linked and what the money figure represents. In particular, an estimate of suspected transactions is not interchangeable with a verified loss or a court-established amount. Arrests are allegations, not findings of guilt.
