Which TV boxes support DStv Stream?
DStv’s device guidance names Google-certified Android TV devices. That is a platform category, not a guarantee for every box that runs Android or uses Android-based software. The safest check is whether the DStv Stream app is available in the official app store on the exact device you plan to use, in your country. DStv’s 2021 streaming guide identifies Google-certified Android TV devices; its current service page provides current service information.

Do not assume an uncertified Android box will work just because it can install other streaming apps. DStv’s older Android device FAQ cautioned against sideloaded apps, rooted devices and devices with tampered bootloaders. That page is historical, so use it as a reason to stick with the official app store—not as a statement of current minimum software requirements.
What other devices are options?
DStv materials also identify selected Apple TV devices, Xbox One, One S and One X consoles, and selected Samsung, LG and Hisense televisions. These categories do not establish compatibility for every model or country. Check the app store on the exact device before relying on it; the DStv service page and DStv’s device guidance are useful starting points.

How to check before buying a box
- Identify the exact model and confirm it is a Google-certified Android TV device, rather than relying on a generic “Android box” description.
- Open the manufacturer’s official app-store listing or device interface and search for “DStv Stream.” Make sure the app is available in your country.
- Check DStv’s current device information for your country, since supported devices and app availability can change.
- Confirm that DStv Stream is offered where you live and that your subscription package includes the content you want.
If the app does not appear in the official store for the exact device and region, do not count on sideloading as a workaround.
What you need to set up streaming
For DStv’s smart-TV setup, you need an internet connection and a DStv account login; a satellite dish or decoder is not required for this streaming setup. DStv’s 18 August 2025 setup guide instructs viewers to install and open the app, then link the screen to their account with the five-digit code displayed on screen.

- Open the device’s app store, search for “DStv Stream,” and install the app.
- Launch the app and follow the prompts to sign in or link the device.
- If prompted to link, enter the five-digit code shown on the TV using the account flow provided by DStv.
Internet speed and content availability
MultiChoice Africa’s DStv Streaming External FAQs recommends an uncapped connection with a minimum line speed of 4 Mbps and 10 Mbps for HD streaming. These are DStv recommendations, not guarantees: actual playback can also depend on the home network and connection conditions.
