Steam Link is the better fit if you want to stream games from a Steam PC to an Android device. DroidDeck is a different approach: it aims to run Steam and compatible games locally on certain Android handhelds. Choose based on whether you have a host PC, whether your Android hardware qualifies for DroidDeck, and whether you prefer streaming or local execution.
How DroidDeck and Steam Link differ
Steam Link is a remote-play app: a computer running Steam hosts the game, and the Android device receives the stream over a network. Valve describes the app as extending Steam Link to Android phones, tablets, and TVs. Valve’s Steam Link for Android guide explains the host and setup requirements.

DroidDeck is a local-execution project, not a way to stream from your PC. Its project documentation describes bringing Steam’s ARM64 client in Big Picture mode to supported Android handhelds, with Windows games running through Valve’s ARM64 Proton. The project says compatibility and performance vary by device and that hardware validation is limited. Check the DroidDeck repository for current requirements and releases.

Steam Link: a Steam PC and a suitable network
Valve lists Android 5.0 or newer for the app, plus a computer running Steam. Its equipment guidance calls for a wireless router that supports 5 GHz. For the basic setup, turn on the host PC, launch Steam and sign in, connect the Android device to the same network, install Steam Link, and follow the app’s on-screen instructions. The PC must remain available as the host while you play.

Valve documents support for the Steam Controller, Xbox One S Controller, DualShock 4 on Android 9.0 and newer, Razer Kishi, and Raiju Mobile. Other devices may work, but Valve does not list them as officially supported in this guide. See Valve’s current setup and controller guidance before choosing a controller.
DroidDeck: newer Android and specified Adreno GPUs
The DroidDeck README specifies Android 9 or newer and Qualcomm Adreno 730-or-newer or Adreno 8xx graphics. It lists Mali, Xclipse, PowerVR, and Adreno 710 as unsupported. The project says root is not required and outlines downloading its runtime and launching Steam. Since builds and requirements can change, verify your device against the current project repository and release notes before installing.

How to decide
- Choose Steam Link if you already have a Steam PC, want to play its games on an Android device, and can provide a suitable network connection.
- Consider DroidDeck if your Android device meets the project’s current hardware requirements and you want games to run on the device rather than stream from a PC.
- Check game and controller fit before committing. DroidDeck warns that results vary by device; Valve’s published controller list is for Steam Link and does not establish DroidDeck compatibility.
The available documentation does not provide controlled head-to-head tests, so it cannot establish which option has lower latency, higher frame rates, or broader game compatibility.
