To install DroidDeck, first confirm your handheld meets the project’s Android and GPU requirements, then download the APK from the official GitHub Releases page, install it, and let DroidDeck set up its Linux runtime before launching Steam. DroidDeck is not compatible with every Android handheld, and the project says performance and compatibility vary by device.
Check that your handheld is supported
The Droid-Deck project README requires Android 9 or newer and a supported Adreno GPU: Adreno 730 or newer, or an Adreno 8xx model. It lists Mali, Xclipse, PowerVR, and Adreno 710 GPUs as unsupported. Check your device’s actual GPU model; the fact that it runs Android or is marketed as a gaming handheld is not enough to establish compatibility. The project estimates about 3 GB of storage for the runtime. Its optional Desktop & apps components add about 1.1 GB for desktop and emulator components. These are project estimates, not guaranteed final storage figures for every device.
Download the APK from the project’s release page
Open the Droid-Deck GitHub repository and follow its Releases link to obtain the APK. The README warns: “DroidDeck does not have a stand-alone website. Do not click on any download links from websites claiming to be the DroidDeck team.” Do not treat standalone sites or APK mirrors as the project’s download authority.

The Releases page lists DroidDeck 0.3.0, released October 2, 2026. Its release notes describe Steam Deck-style controller support, gyro and Steam Input options, a performance overlay, GPU driver selection, ARM64 Flathub apps, and Stable, Preview, and Test update channels. Those are release-page descriptions, not independent compatibility or performance guarantees. Check the official page for the current release and package before installing.
Install DroidDeck and start Steam
- Install the APK. Open the downloaded APK on your handheld and follow Android’s installation prompts. Depending on the device, Android may require you to allow the app or file manager handling the APK to install unknown apps. The project README does not give brand-specific instructions for these prompts.
- Install the Linux runtime in DroidDeck. Launch the app and choose its runtime installation option. Allow for the project’s estimated runtime storage.
- Choose whether to install Desktop & apps. This is an additional option for desktop and emulator components, not a prerequisite stated by the project for launching Steam.
- Press Play. Steam downloads on its first launch. When it finishes, sign in to your Steam account.
If Steam will not launch
The project README identifies Android’s Restrict child processes setting in Developer options as a possible cause of Steam failing to start. If your device exposes this setting, turn it off and try again. The README says that on Android 12 or 13, when the setting is unavailable, the first Steam launch offers a Fix it for me button. This documented fallback is specific to those Android versions; do not assume the same procedure applies to other versions.

If the problem persists, check the session logs in Download/DroidDeck/. The project notes that compatibility and performance vary by device and that hardware validation is limited, so successful installation alone does not establish that a particular game will run well. Consult the repository for project guidance and use the log location present on your device when investigating an error.
