Driver Easy version 5.0.8 (build 5.0.8.35450) was released on July 22, 2016. It added Korean language support, made English the fallback when a translation was unavailable, and fixed a bug that could prevent the program from saving the last-scan time when it closed. The release also included minor bug fixes.
This is a historical Windows software release, not a current hardware product. You can still identify what changed and verify an existing installation, but you should not assume that a 2016 installer remains available or compatible with every current Windows setup. Use the vendor’s official archive or support channel if you need this exact build.

Korean interface support
The most visible feature change was the addition of Korean language support. Users who selected Korean could use the program’s translated interface where translation strings existed. This was a user-interface change; it did not change the drivers installed on a computer or add a new hardware capability.

English became the fallback
Version 5.0.8 also clarified what happens when a translation is missing. Instead of displaying an unavailable or incomplete language, the program uses English by default for the affected text. A mixed-language screen can therefore indicate that a particular phrase was not translated, rather than that the installation is damaged.
Last-scan time saving was corrected
The release fixed cases in which Driver Easy failed to save the time of its most recent scan when the application closed. Before the fix, a scan could complete successfully while the displayed date or time remained old after restarting the program. The correction concerns the recorded timestamp; it is not evidence that the scan itself found different drivers or that update performance changed.
Minor bug fixes
The version-history entry records additional minor bug fixes but does not enumerate each one. No official page for this release reports a benchmark, scan-speed increase, number of newly supported devices, or a security certification, so those claims should not be attributed to 5.0.8.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Why the last-scan timestamp matters
A scan timestamp is a piece of status information. It helps you tell whether the results on screen came from a recent scan or from an earlier session. If the time is not saved when the program closes, you may repeat a scan unnecessarily or believe that a scan never ran.
The 5.0.8 fix addresses persistence of that record across a close-and-reopen cycle. It does not guarantee that every timestamp problem on a modern computer will disappear: a different build, a damaged profile, permissions, or an operating-system compatibility issue could produce a separate symptom.
How to check whether the fix is present
- Run the installed Driver Easy program and perform a scan using the controls provided by your build.
- Note the displayed last-scan date and time after the scan completes.
- Close the program normally rather than terminating its process.
- Open it again and check whether the same scan time remains visible.
- If the time reverts, record the exact version and build shown by the program before seeking vendor support. A failure on a newer build does not prove that the 5.0.8 defect is still present.
How to download Driver Easy 5.0.8 safely
The 2016 announcement instructed readers to download and install the release, but the material for this article does not establish that the original download link is still live. Treat 5.0.8 as a legacy build and obtain it only through an official Driver Easy archive or the vendor’s support process. Do not substitute a random download site merely because it uses the same file name.

Before you download
- Confirm that you specifically need build 5.0.8.35450. If you only need current driver maintenance, a historical installer may add unnecessary compatibility and security questions.
- Write down the version of Windows and whether another Driver Easy build is already installed.
- Create a restore point or another recovery option before replacing driver-management software. This protects your Windows installation if an old application behaves unexpectedly.
- Keep the installer in a clearly labelled folder so you do not confuse it with a later release.
Verify the installer and installation
- Download the installer from the vendor’s official archive or support representative.
- Check the file’s publisher and signature in Windows file properties when those details are available. If the publisher is missing or the file has been modified, stop and request a verified copy.
- Close Driver Easy and other programs that may be using its files.
- Run the installer and follow the on-screen installation choices. Do not assume that an installer found on a third-party mirror is equivalent to the official build.
- After installation, open the program’s About or version-information screen and confirm that it reports version 5.0.8 and build 5.0.8.35450.
- Test a scan, close the application normally, and reopen it to check the last-scan timestamp.
The exact screens and installer requirements can differ depending on the archive copy and Windows edition. If the installer refuses to run, do not disable Windows security controls simply to force it through; ask the vendor whether a supported package exists for your system.
Language behavior after installation
Selecting Korean
Because Korean was added in 5.0.8, a compatible installation should offer Korean among its language choices. The release notes do not publish a universal menu path, so the label and location can vary with the installer or an existing upgrade. Look in the program’s language or general settings, apply Korean, and restart only if the application requests it.
When English appears unexpectedly
English is the documented fallback whenever a translation is unavailable. Seeing English for some controls is therefore expected behavior for untranslated text. It does not, by itself, show that Korean support failed. If the entire interface remains in English, verify that the installed build is actually 5.0.8.35450 and that the language selection was saved; then consult the vendor’s support material for that specific package.
Version-history context and licensing
Driver Easy’s current product information places the Free edition in the 5.8.x era and states that, beginning with version 6.0.0, there is no longer a Free version. That makes 5.0.8 part of an older Free-era product history. Current licensing, feature limits, and download availability should not be inferred from the 2016 release announcement.
| Version period | What the current product information says | What it means for 5.0.8 |
|---|---|---|
| 5.0.8, released July 2016 | Historical release; build 5.0.8.35450 | Belongs to the older Free-era line |
| Through 5.8.x | Free edition applies according to the current product page | Shows that 5.0.8 predates the later product-policy change |
| 6.0.0 and later | No Free version, according to the current product page | Do not expect today’s licensing model to match 2016 terms |
The current product page presents Driver Easy as downloadable Windows software with differences between Free and Pro features. It does not establish that the exact 5.0.8 installer is still offered, so availability must be confirmed directly rather than assumed.
When an old installer is the wrong choice
Use the historical build only when you have a specific compatibility, language, or archival reason. A modern Windows system may require a currently supported application, and an old executable can lack later fixes. Conversely, if a managed environment was built around 5.0.8, changing versions without documenting the existing configuration can make troubleshooting harder.

- Choose the historical build: you need to reproduce a 2016 software environment, verify the timestamp fix, or test Korean support documented for this release.
- Choose a current supported release: you need ongoing vendor support, current Windows compatibility, or features introduced after 5.0.8.
- Pause and ask for guidance: the only installer you can find is from an unverified mirror, the signature is absent, or installation changes drivers unexpectedly.
Troubleshooting common 5.0.8 questions
“I cannot find the download.”
That is possible because the release is from 2016 and the announcement does not prove that its original link remains active. Contact the vendor through its official support route and request build 5.0.8.35450 by number. Avoid treating a similarly named file from an unrelated site as an authentic replacement.
“The installer says my Windows version is unsupported.”
The release material does not provide a complete list of supported Windows editions, so an unsupported-system message cannot be resolved by guessing. Record the Windows edition, architecture, installer file name, and exact message, then ask whether the vendor has a supported build for that system.
“The timestamp is still wrong.”
First verify the About screen reports 5.0.8.35450, then repeat the close-and-reopen test. If the problem persists, it may be unrelated to the defect corrected in this release. Preserve the program’s logs or screenshots if available and provide the vendor with the exact sequence that reproduces the problem.
Recommended Free Tools
“Korean is not available.”
Confirm the build number and inspect the language settings after installation. A package that is not 5.0.8, or an incomplete translation resource, may not expose the same choices. English fallback is expected for untranslated strings.
What is—and is not—documented about performance
The official release pages provide no independent benchmark, usage statistic, market-share figure, scan-speed measurement, or count of additional devices supported by 5.0.8. The defensible description is therefore limited to the language changes, timestamp fix, and minor maintenance noted above. Claims that this build scans faster, finds more drivers, or improves Windows performance would go beyond the published evidence.
For an archival reference, retain the release date, build number, installer provenance, and any test notes. Those details let you distinguish this exact release from later 5.x builds and from the post-6.0 licensing model.
If you want an optional shortcut for checking drivers instead of locating this historical installer, Outbyte Driver Updater scans 100+ devices, identifies outdated, corrupted or missing drivers, installs only official drivers, shows current and recommended versions, and provides driver backup, restore and scheduled scans. It runs on Windows 11, 10, 8 and 7; its 2-day free trial requires no credit card before a subscription.
Bottom line
Driver Easy 5.0.8 is the July 22, 2016 release with build number 5.0.8.35450. Its meaningful changes were Korean support, English fallback for missing translations, and a correction for saving the last-scan time. Because it is a legacy Windows build, verify the source and exact build before installing, and confirm current licensing or availability with the vendor rather than relying on 2016 download instructions.
