If an Unappraised Relic or another piece of Spoils appears to vanish in Dragon’s Dogma 2, first inspect every active Pawn, then check item storage through an innkeeper. Pawns with the Hawker or Logistician specialization can alter what they carry, and items held by a Pawn that becomes forfeit are sent to storage. If neither check explains the loss, investigate the nearby area for a possible white-ogre theft, update the game, and review whether the item failed to spawn correctly after a fight or chest pickup. Capcom has not published a Relics- or Spoils-specific restoration procedure, so these steps narrow down the cause without promising that a lost item can be restored.
What to do first when a Relic or Spoils item disappears
Treat the disappearance as an inventory-location problem before assuming the game deleted the item. The same symptom can result from a Pawn handling the item, a Pawn being forfeited, an item moving to storage, a creature carrying away loot, or a pickup failure. These possibilities do not have the same level of evidence.

Why Hawker and Logistician matter
Capcom identifies two Pawn specializations that can change how carried items are handled. A Pawn with Hawker or Logistician can automatically receive items, and these specializations may sell low-rarity items. That means the character who picked up an Unappraised Relic or other Spoils may no longer be holding it, even if you did not manually move or sell anything.

“Automatically” is the important clue: do not rely only on your Arisen’s inventory history. A Pawn can be the point at which the item changed location or left the party’s carried supplies. The specialization itself is not proof that a particular Relic was sold, so inspect the inventories rather than assuming the outcome.
Inventory inspection order
- Open the party and inspect the inventory of every Pawn who was active when the item was acquired.
- Prioritize Pawns with Hawker or Logistician, since Capcom specifically warns that these specializations can receive items or sell low-rarity items.
- Look for the item under its current name and category. An unappraised item may not be listed exactly as it will appear after appraisal.
- Review whether a low-rarity piece of Spoils could have been treated as sellable rather than quest-critical. Do not infer that an item was sold solely because it is absent; continue with the storage check.
- If a Pawn has left the party, inspect storage before recruiting a replacement and before concluding that the item is gone.
This check is the fastest way to distinguish a disappearance from a transfer. It also prevents a common mistake: searching the battlefield while the item is still attached to a companion’s inventory.
Check item storage through an innkeeper
Forfeited Pawns
Capcom states that when a Pawn becomes forfeit, items it held are automatically sent to item storage. If a Pawn died, was lost, or otherwise became forfeit around the time the Relic disappeared, storage is the highest-priority location to inspect.

Speak to an innkeeper and open the menu that provides access to item storage. Search there for the missing Relic or Spoils item, including items that may have been transferred from a Pawn rather than picked up by the Arisen. This is a documented destination for items held by a forfeited Pawn; it is not evidence that every unexplained disappearance is recoverable from storage.

Additional-content items
Capcom’s bonus-content FAQ says that items supplied as additional content, including bonuses, appear in in-game storage. The FAQ’s instructions are to view storage through the menu opened by speaking with the innkeeper. If a bonus item is still missing, Capcom recommends resting at an inn and then trying its general troubleshooting steps.
Apply that advice only to the category it addresses. Resting at an inn is guidance for missing additional content, not a confirmed remedy for an ordinary Relic or for Spoils taken from an encounter. Do not treat an inn rest as a guaranteed respawn or restoration command.
Investigate a possible white-ogre theft carefully
A recent October 2026 Reddit report describes Unappraised Relics apparently vanishing after an encounter. In the discussion, another player asked whether a white ogre had grabbed the character, carried the character away, and taken the party’s spoils. That commenter said they recovered their loot after finding and killing the ogre in a cave. The original poster then remembered fighting a white ogre.
This is a single player thread, not a Capcom diagnosis or a confirmed universal mechanic. Still, it supplies a practical lead when the timing fits. If a white ogre recently seized your character or fled with the group’s loot, retrace the route instead of immediately writing the item off.

How to search without losing the trail
- Return to the location where the grab or escape occurred and note which direction the creature took.
- Check nearby caves, enclosed paths, and dead ends before traveling to a distant region.
- Look for the same white ogre rather than assuming a random replacement encounter is responsible.
- If you find and defeat it, inspect the resulting loot and the surrounding ground before leaving.
- Record what you recover and what remains missing; that distinction helps separate theft from a failed pickup or Pawn transfer.
If no white ogre was involved, or if the item is not recovered, return to the documented inventory, storage, and pickup checks. The anecdote should guide a search, not replace those checks.
Update the game when a pickup may have failed
June 2026 update notes reproduced in a Steam post describe two item-acquisition fixes. One addressed a bug in which items could not be obtained using Investigate after defeating enemies, sometimes preventing further Investigate attempts. The other addressed items becoming unobtainable when multiple items came from a chest while the inventory did not have enough space.
These notes support updating the game before testing the same type of encounter again. They do not state that the update restores an item that was already missed, deleted, or left unobtainable. Install the current update available for your platform, restart the game if the platform requires it, and then observe a fresh pickup.
Signs that the pickup bug is the better match
- The item was expected on an enemy after the fight, but Investigate failed or stopped responding.
- A chest contained several objects and your inventory was short of space when you opened it.
- The item never appeared in the Arisen’s inventory or in any Pawn’s inventory, and no forfeited Pawn or bonus-content explanation fits.
When testing after the update, make room before opening a multi-item chest and confirm each object enters an inventory. That is a diagnostic precaution, not a promise that the previous item will return.

Use the quest hint system when the item is quest-related
If the missing object is tied to a quest and the uncertainty is about what the quest expects rather than where the item went, Capcom points to two in-game hint sources. Set the quest as the priority, then visit the Diviner’s Salon or the Reverent Shrine. A hint may be available for a fee.
This can clarify the next objective or location, but it does not function as an item-restoration service. Use it to determine whether the Relic or Spoils item is actually required, whether another pickup is expected, or whether the quest has advanced despite the inventory confusion.
A complete recovery workflow
Run the checks in this order so each result narrows the next branch. Keep the item’s name, location, encounter, and approximate time in mind while you work; those details determine which branch is relevant.

- Define the loss. Confirm whether the missing object was an Unappraised Relic, ordinary Spoils, or an additional-content item. Note whether you saw it enter an inventory or only expected it to appear.
- Inspect the Arisen. Check all relevant inventory categories and search for the item under its unappraised name.
- Inspect every active Pawn. Start with Hawker and Logistician Pawns, then check the others. Look for a transfer, a remaining copy, or evidence that the item was never picked up.
- Check item storage. Speak to an innkeeper and open storage. Give special priority to this step if a Pawn became forfeit.
- Classify bonus content separately. If the item was supplied as additional content, rest at an inn and apply Capcom’s general troubleshooting guidance if storage is still empty.
- Review the last encounter. If a white ogre grabbed the character or fled with loot, search the nearby route and caves as a tentative recovery attempt.
- Update the game. Install the current patch, particularly if Investigate failed after an enemy fight or a crowded chest was involved.
- Re-test only the relevant scenario. After updating, create inventory space before opening a multi-item chest and verify whether a new pickup registers. Do not assume this re-test restores the old item.
- Consult a quest hint if necessary. Prioritize the quest and visit the Diviner’s Salon or Reverent Shrine if you need to establish what the objective now requires.
How to interpret the result
The item is in a Pawn’s inventory
The disappearance was a location change, not a confirmed loss. Move or use the item normally, and consider whether a Hawker or Logistician specialization made the transfer or sale behavior harder to notice.
The item is in storage
The storage result is consistent with Capcom’s rule for items held by a Pawn that became forfeit. Retrieve it from the innkeeper menu and record which Pawn was involved so the same situation is easier to recognize later.
The item was additional content and appears after an inn rest
That outcome matches Capcom’s bonus-content instructions. Keep the distinction clear: it confirms the storage path for that additional item, not a general Relic recovery mechanic.
A white ogre is found and the loot returns
That matches the player-reported scenario, but it remains anecdotal evidence. It should not be generalized to every missing Relic or treated as proof that all white ogres steal loot.

At that point, the available evidence does not provide a guaranteed restoration method. The June 2026 notes describe prevention of particular pickup failures, not recovery of historical losses. Preserve the details of the encounter and report the issue through the game’s support channel if you need an official investigation; do not claim that a reinstall, controller, or physical game purchase will reconstruct missing inventory data.
What this troubleshooting can and cannot establish
- Capcom officially documents Pawn handling, forfeited-Pawn storage, and the storage location for additional-content items.
- The June 2026 pickup fixes are described in update notes reproduced by a Steam community post; the official update page was not available for direct verification here.
- The white-ogre explanation comes from one October 2026 Reddit report and should remain provisional.
- No Capcom procedure specifically promises restoration of missing Relics or Spoils.
- There is no evidence that buying hardware, replacing a controller, or purchasing another copy of the game repairs an in-game inventory discrepancy.
The practical goal is therefore diagnosis: find a Pawn transfer, storage entry, bonus-content delivery, theft encounter, or pickup bug that fits the timeline. If none fits, the responsible conclusion is that the item’s recovery is unconfirmed rather than guaranteed by any step above.
