Record your CPU model, GPU model, installed RAM, display resolution and whether the computer has both integrated and discrete graphics. If any component is below minimum, smooth performance is not assured. Make sure Don Bradman Cricket 17 uses the discrete GPU
On a gaming laptop or a desktop with more than one graphics adapter, the most important first check is GPU selection. A Steam Community report described a GTX 1070 system that reached 60 FPS with VSync enabled and more than 100 FPS with VSync disabled after the discrete card was selected. That is one user’s result, not a guaranteed outcome, but it makes the GPU assignment a sensible diagnostic.
- Open the NVIDIA Control Panel.
- Select Manage 3D settings, then open Program Settings.
- Add or select the game executable, usually
cricket17.exe. If it is not listed, use the browse option and select the executable in the game’s installation folder. - Set the preferred graphics processor to the discrete NVIDIA processor rather than the integrated option.
- Apply the change, fully exit Steam and the game, then launch again.
- Verify the result during a match by checking GPU activity in your operating system’s performance view. The discrete adapter should show meaningful load while the game is running.
Windows graphics preferences can also assign a high-performance GPU on systems that expose that control. Use only one per-program assignment at a time so you know which setting produced a change. Use a reversible graphics-tuning sequence
The official listing does not enumerate every in-game graphics control, and menu labels can differ between builds. Do not assume that a preset called “Ultra,” “High” or “Medium” exists. Use the controls your installed copy actually exposes and change one variable at a time.

Start a representative match, not just the main menu. Note resolution, whether VSync is enabled, approximate frame rate, and when stutter occurs. Test batting, fielding and camera movement because a quiet menu can hide the problem.
- Choose the lower quality option. If the game offers a general quality selector, begin at its lower setting. This is a diagnostic starting point, not a permanent recommendation.
- Reduce output resolution. Move from the monitor’s native resolution to a lower available resolution and repeat the same match segment. A large improvement indicates that the GPU or video-memory workload is the limiting factor.
- Keep the change that improves frame pacing. If lower quality and lower resolution do not change the hitching, the cause may be GPU selection, CPU scheduling, memory pressure, drivers, thermals or fullscreen behavior rather than image quality.

Choose VSync and frame-rate behavior deliberately
VSync synchronizes presentation with the display’s refresh cycle. With it enabled, a 60 Hz screen commonly presents at a 60-FPS ceiling when the system can sustain that cadence; when it cannot, the experience may feel uneven. With it disabled, the counter can exceed the refresh rate, but tearing and rapid frame-time changes can become more noticeable.

The community report that motivated the GPU-selection advice recorded 60 FPS with VSync on and more than 100 FPS with it off on a GTX 1070. Another commenter suggested an FPS limiter. Treat both observations as troubleshooting experiments from 2017, not official settings guidance. Test VSync on and off for the same match, and if the installed build provides a limiter, compare a stable cap with an uncapped run. Keep the option that gives the smoothest camera movement on your particular display.
Diagnose stutter that survives lower settings
Lowering quality cannot fix every bottleneck. Reports include 10–15 FPS on a GTX 980 Ti system, stutter on a GTX 1070, performance that worsened during longer sessions, and cases where reducing settings did not remove lag. These are anecdotal reports, but they describe useful branches for diagnosis.

If the frame rate is low immediately
- Recheck that
cricket17.exeis assigned to the discrete GPU. - Confirm the display is connected to the intended graphics output on a desktop with multiple adapters.
- Reduce resolution and the game’s lower quality option, then retest a match.
- Check CPU and GPU utilization. A lightly loaded discrete GPU alongside high integrated-GPU activity points to adapter selection; high CPU load points toward a processor or background-task limit.
If play starts smoothly but degrades later
- Watch temperatures and clock speeds during the session. Heat-related throttling can lower clocks after the system warms up.

If fullscreen suddenly performs badly

This is anecdotal and may not apply to every Windows version, but it is a quick, reversible test: press Alt+Enter, wait for the display mode to change, then repeat the same match segment. Run a repeatable test instead of guessing
Use a short test protocol so every change has a clear result:
- Restart the game and load the same stadium or match type.
- Record resolution, quality level, VSync state and whether a limiter is active.
- Play through a batting sequence, a fielding sequence and several camera pans for at least several minutes.
- Write down average behavior and the worst hitch, including whether it happened immediately or after extended play.
- Change only one setting, then repeat the same sequence.
This method separates a setting that genuinely improves frame pacing from a temporary improvement caused by restarting the game or ending a background task. Test on the display you actually use; a setting that feels smooth on a 60 Hz panel may not feel the same on a higher-refresh display.
Account for laptop power and memory limits
Hybrid laptops often switch behavior based on power mode, battery state and temperature. Perform the comparison while plugged in, with the system’s performance mode selected if that option exists, and with ventilation unobstructed. Do not treat a short burst of high FPS as proof that sustained play will remain smooth.

Systems near the 4 GB minimum have little room for browsers, launchers and overlays. The 8 GB recommended tier provides more headroom, but it still does not eliminate driver, CPU or thermal issues. Close unnecessary applications before testing and make sure the operating system is not actively using the disk for updates or heavy background work.
What the published information does—and does not—prove
- It establishes the game identity, release date, controller and boot-time internet requirements, and the minimum and recommended hardware tiers.
- It does not provide an authoritative list of every graphics-menu option.
- It does not establish a universal best preset or a guaranteed FPS target for modern hardware.
- Community reports demonstrate that selecting the correct GPU can matter and that problems can occur even on powerful cards, but they are individual experiences from 2017.
Use the lower-quality and reduced-resolution settings as controlled tests, not as promises that every system will respond identically. Once the discrete GPU is confirmed and frame pacing is stable, raise resolution and individual options until the first repeatable hitch, then step back one change.
