Short answer: the XBOX Nano Controller supports XBOX Wireless connections to Xbox consoles and Bluetooth controller connections on compatible Windows 10/11 PCs, tablets, iPhones and iPads, Android devices, and Smart TVs. It supports customization through a programmable Action Button and button mapping in the Xbox Accessories app.

Wireless audio is a different question. Microsoft’s published Nano specifications do not confirm Bluetooth headphone audio, a microphone, headset audio, or a 3.5 mm headset jack. Xbox documents a general firmware-update process through an Xbox console or Windows PC, but the Nano product information does not yet explicitly confirm Nano-specific firmware updates. The US Microsoft Store lists the controller at $49.99, with release scheduled for November 4, 2026.

Does the Xbox Nano Controller have Bluetooth audio?

There is no confirmed Bluetooth audio feature in the published Nano specifications. The technical listing describes Bluetooth as a connection method for controller use with compatible Windows 10/11 PCs, tablets, iOS, Android and Smart TV devices. It does not list a Bluetooth audio profile, wireless headphones, a microphone, headset audio or any other audio function.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That distinction matters because a controller can use Bluetooth to send button and stick input without acting as a Bluetooth audio transmitter. Pairing the Nano with a phone, PC or television therefore should not be treated as proof that it can pair with Bluetooth earbuds or route game sound.

Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.

  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Can you plug a headset into the Nano?

Microsoft’s Nano product information does not list a 3.5 mm headset jack or another headset connector. The careful answer is not “yes” and not a definitive hardware denial: wired and wireless headset support are not confirmed in the published specifications. If headset chat or controller-mounted audio is essential, wait for the final hardware documentation or a Nano-specific support page before buying on that assumption.

Where would audio come from instead?

On an Xbox, audio can normally be handled by the console and its supported audio accessories rather than by the controller. On a PC, mobile device or Smart TV, use the operating system’s or television’s own audio output unless Microsoft documents Nano audio support. The Nano’s Bluetooth controller connection should be evaluated as an input link only until an official specification says otherwise.

Can you remap buttons on the Xbox Nano Controller?

Yes. The controller has a programmable Action Button, and Xbox says that button can be assigned to screenshots, gameplay capture and other frequently used shortcuts. Separately, the Microsoft Store listing says button mapping is available through the Xbox Accessories app on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Windows 10/11.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Those are two related but distinct customization features. The Action Button is a dedicated programmable control. The Xbox Accessories app provides the broader mapping interface for changing button assignments. The available commands can depend on the host platform and the app version, so the options shown on screen are the final authority for a particular setup.

How to configure mappings on an Xbox console

  1. Connect the Nano to the Xbox console using its supported XBOX Wireless connection.
  2. Open the Xbox Accessories app on the console.
  3. Select the connected Nano Controller when it appears.
  4. Open the controller’s configuration or button-mapping controls.
  5. Assign the Action Button and any other available controls to the functions shown by the app, such as screenshots or gameplay capture.
  6. Apply the configuration, then test each changed button in a game or on the Xbox dashboard.

The documented console support covers Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. Microsoft has not published a complete list of every function that can be assigned, nor has it stated how many separate profiles can be stored, so do not assume that every standard controller command or unlimited profile switching is available.

How to configure mappings on Windows 10 or 11

  1. Pair the Nano with the Windows PC over Bluetooth, then confirm that Windows recognizes it as a controller.
  2. Install or open the Xbox Accessories app.
  3. Select the Nano from the connected-device list.
  4. Open the app’s configuration and button-mapping controls.
  5. Choose the Action Button or another control and select one of the assignments the app offers.
  6. Save or apply the configuration in the app and test it in the game or Windows function for which it was assigned.

If the controller does not appear in Xbox Accessories, first check the Bluetooth connection and whether Windows is running a supported version. Mapping support is documented for Windows 10/11, but the Nano’s launch materials do not specify a separate driver package.

How do you update Xbox Nano Controller firmware?

Xbox’s general controller guidance says that the latest controller device firmware can be installed through an Xbox console or a Windows PC. The Xbox Accessories app is the documented software path for controller customization and updates.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

However, the Nano product pages do not explicitly say that the Nano will receive firmware updates or identify a Nano-specific firmware package. Until Microsoft publishes that confirmation, describe the process as general Xbox controller update support, not as a guaranteed Nano feature.

General update route on Xbox

  1. Connect the Nano to the Xbox console.
  2. Open Xbox Accessories.
  3. Select the controller.
  4. Look for an available device or firmware update and follow the on-screen instructions if one is offered.
  5. Do not disconnect the controller while the update is being installed.

General update route on Windows

  1. Connect or pair the Nano with a Windows 10/11 PC.
  2. Open Xbox Accessories.
  3. Select the controller from the app’s device list.
  4. Check the controller details for an available update.
  5. Follow the displayed installation steps and wait for the app to report completion before closing it.

If no update appears, that does not prove the controller is permanently unsupported. It may mean that no newer firmware is available, the controller is not recognized correctly, or Microsoft has not yet published Nano-specific update support. Check Microsoft’s Nano support documentation after the November 4 launch for the definitive status.

Which devices can the Xbox Nano Controller connect to?

Device type Connection named by Microsoft Important qualification
Xbox consoles XBOX Wireless The published specification does not identify every compatible Xbox model.
Windows PCs Bluetooth Windows 10 and Windows 11 are explicitly listed.
Tablets Bluetooth Compatibility is described generally; individual tablet models are not enumerated.
iPhone and iPad devices Bluetooth Microsoft’s specification uses “iOS”; compatibility can vary by device and operating-system version.
Android devices Bluetooth Individual phone and tablet models are not listed.
Smart TVs Bluetooth Only compatible Smart TVs are covered; television support depends on the TV’s controller compatibility.

The connection method does not automatically carry over from one platform to another. XBOX Wireless is the console connection named by Microsoft, while Bluetooth is the method listed for the companion devices. Bluetooth input compatibility also does not establish Bluetooth audio support.

What else is known about the Nano’s hardware?

Xbox announced the controller on October 14, 2026. It is a little over 5 inches long, weighs 3.5 ounces and has 18 standard gameplay inputs. An internal rechargeable battery is built in, so it is not described as a disposable-battery controller. The programmable Action Button is part of the physical design rather than an app-only shortcut.

James Hunter, General Manager of Xbox Accessories, described it as “our smallest controller, lighter and shorter than most modern smartphones.” That size and weight can matter for travel, small hands or users who find full-size controllers tiring, but the published announcement does not provide battery capacity, battery-life testing, charging details or a complete dimensional drawing.

Common problems and what to check

The controller pairs but headphones do not

That behavior is consistent with the published information: Bluetooth controller input is listed, while Bluetooth audio is not. Use the host device’s normal audio output and look for an official Nano audio specification before treating the result as a fault.

The Action Button does not perform the expected shortcut

Open Xbox Accessories, select the Nano and verify the current mapping. The button performs the assignment saved through the app, not necessarily its factory action. Test the mapping outside a game as well as inside one, because the host platform can determine which shortcuts are available.

The Nano is absent from Xbox Accessories

Confirm that the console or Windows PC has an active connection to the controller and that the operating system meets the documented Xbox Accessories requirement. If the controller still does not appear, Microsoft’s launch support page is the appropriate place to check for Nano-specific software support.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

No firmware update is offered

An absent prompt can mean there is no newer firmware, the app cannot identify the controller, or Nano-specific updating has not been documented yet. Reconnect the controller, reopen Xbox Accessories and check Microsoft’s post-launch support information rather than installing an unverified package.

Price, release date and availability

The US Microsoft Store lists the XBOX Nano Controller at $49.99 and gives a November 4, 2026 release date. Those figures apply to the United States listing and should not be treated as worldwide pricing or availability. The controller was announced on October 14, 2026, so detailed support pages and final regional listings may still appear around launch.

Bottom line: is the Nano right for you?

The XBOX Nano Controller is a compact Xbox and Bluetooth controller with a programmable Action Button and documented remapping through Xbox Accessories. It is a sensible fit if small size, low weight, console connectivity and customizable controls are your priorities.

It is not yet a safe choice for anyone who specifically needs controller-based audio. Microsoft has not confirmed Bluetooth headphone support, a microphone, headset audio or a 3.5 mm jack. Firmware updates are similarly qualified: Xbox documents the normal console-and-Windows update route for controllers, but Nano-specific update support should be verified in Microsoft’s post-launch documentation.
