Yes. The iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max support Apple Intelligence, and Apple announced its India rollout with iOS 18.4 in March 2025. That does not mean every feature is available in India: access can vary by feature, iOS version, language and region.
What works on iPhone 16 in India?
Apple’s India announcement named Writing Tools and Smart Reply among the features coming with iOS 18.4 and localized English for India. Writing Tools can rewrite, proofread and summarize text; Smart Reply can suggest a response you can send with a tap. Apple also described supported cross-language writing features that can adapt to the language being used. See Apple’s India announcement for the release details.
Visual Intelligence has a separate minimum specified in that announcement: iOS 18.2 or later on iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max. That is the requirement Apple stated in March 2025; it should not be treated as a promise that every later Visual Intelligence capability has the same requirements.
Why availability can differ from device compatibility
Compatibility means the iPhone is eligible for Apple Intelligence; it does not guarantee access to every capability. Apple’s June 2026 iOS 27 announcement lists iPhone 16 models or later as compatible and English among supported Apple Intelligence languages, while warning that some features may not be available in all regions or languages. Apple’s feature availability reference lists English (India) for multiple Apple Intelligence feature groupings, but availability is specified feature by feature and may change.

Apple announced localized English for India, but that is not evidence that all features support every language used in India. Nor does general English support establish that a particular feature is available in a particular region. Check the current entry for the capability you want rather than assuming a single country-wide list applies to all features.
Do you need to change your iPhone to English (India)?
Apple’s India rollout included localized English for India, but the available sources do not establish one language setting that unlocks every Apple Intelligence feature. Check Apple’s current feature availability information for the specific capability and language, and confirm that your iPhone has the required iOS version. Requirements can differ by feature, as Visual Intelligence’s iOS 18.2-or-later minimum illustrates.

How to check a feature before relying on it
- Confirm your model: Apple lists iPhone 16 models as compatible with Apple Intelligence. Its June 2026 iOS 27 announcement specifies iPhone 16 models or later. Read Apple’s announcement.
- Check the iOS requirement: Look up the feature’s stated minimum version; do not assume that the general India rollout version applies to every capability.
- Check language and region for that feature: Consult Apple’s feature availability reference and look for the exact feature and language combination relevant to your use.
