Bluetooth is available on Android and Apple devices; USB operation is also listed, but Apple wired use is limited to a USB-C iPhone or iPad, or a Mac.
Cloud gaming is a qualified yes rather than a universal guarantee. The service app and the individual game must accept the controller profile. Check the target service’s current controller requirements before relying on the Pro 3 for a particular phone, browser, TV app or game.

These operating-system versions are the versions named in 8BitDo’s current compatibility information. An older phone or tablet below the listed version is outside that stated support, even if its Bluetooth hardware appears capable of pairing.

Using the Pro 3 with Android
What is officially supported
8BitDo’s compatibility table lists Android 13.0 and above. It lists both Bluetooth and wired USB connections, so you can choose wireless play or connect the controller directly to a compatible Android device with a USB cable.

Android compatibility does not make every game controller-ready. A game must expose gamepad controls, and a streaming app must pass controller input to the streamed session. Menus designed only for touch may ignore the Pro 3 even when Android has paired successfully.
Bluetooth setup
- Turn on Bluetooth in Android’s Settings app.
- Put the Pro 3 into its Bluetooth/Android connection mode according to the controller’s mode switch and manual.
- Hold the controller’s Pair button for three seconds. Wait for the status LED to show pairing activity.
- In Android Bluetooth settings, select 8BitDo Pro 3 when it appears.
- After Android reports that it is connected, open the game or streaming app and check its controller settings.
Android’s menu wording varies by manufacturer, so the Bluetooth page may be under Connected devices, Connections or a similarly named section. The essential result is that the controller appears as 8BitDo Pro 3 in the paired-device list.
Wired Android play
For a wired connection, connect the Pro 3 to the Android device with a USB cable and use the device’s USB-C port or an appropriate adapter. Android must enumerate the controller, and the game or app must read USB gamepad input. If the phone shows a USB accessory prompt, approve it only if you recognize the connected controller and cable.

A USB connection that charges the controller is not, by itself, proof that the game has accepted its input; test the sticks and buttons inside the target app.

Using the Pro 3 with iPhone and iPad
Supported Apple versions
8BitDo lists the Pro 3 as officially supported by Apple and names iOS 26 or later for iPhone and iPadOS 26 or later for iPad. The same Apple compatibility information also names tvOS 26, macOS 26 and visionOS 26. The version requirement matters: an iPhone or iPad running an earlier release is not covered by the stated support even if the device has Bluetooth.
Pair over Bluetooth
The English Pro 3 manual gives this Bluetooth procedure for Apple devices:
- Move the controller’s mode switch to D.
- Press Start.
- Hold Pair for three seconds. The status LED rolls from side to side while the controller is discoverable.
- Open Settings > Bluetooth on the iPhone or iPad.
- Choose 8BitDo Pro 3 from the list of available devices.
- Wait for the LED to remain solid, which the manual identifies as successful pairing.
Once paired, launch the game or cloud app and look for its controller or gamepad menu. iOS and iPadOS can remember the controller, but a remembered Bluetooth connection does not override an app that has no gamepad support.
Wired iPhone and iPad use
8BitDo’s manual explicitly limits wired iOS and iPadOS support to devices with USB-C ports. Use a USB cable with a USB-C iPhone or USB-C iPad. A Lightning-only iPhone or iPad should be treated as Bluetooth-only for this controller’s documented Apple support.

With a USB-C device, connect the cable before opening the game, then verify that the app responds to a stick or button. If the device charges but no controls work, the likely limitation is app support, cable data capability or the app’s need to be restarted after the controller was connected.
Other Apple devices
Mac
macOS 26 and later are included in 8BitDo’s Apple compatibility listing. The Apple wired qualification specifically permits wired use on macOS, so a Mac can use the Pro 3 over USB as well as Bluetooth. Individual Mac games, emulators and browser services decide whether they expose the controller to gameplay.
Apple TV and Apple Vision Pro
tvOS 26 and visionOS 26 are named as supported Apple platforms. The compatibility listing establishes platform support, not that every Apple TV or visionOS application accepts a third-party controller. Check the app’s input requirements and pair through the platform’s Bluetooth settings.
Cloud gaming: what “compatible” really means
Why cloud support is conditional
Cloud gaming has two separate compatibility layers. First, the phone, tablet, computer or TV operating system must connect to the Pro 3. Second, the cloud app must recognize the controller and forward its buttons and sticks to the streamed game. The game itself may then impose another requirement, such as a supported gamepad profile or a controller-only input mode.

Consequently, Android and Apple Bluetooth support makes the Pro 3 technically suitable for cloud apps that accept standard compatible gamepads, but it does not certify the controller for every provider, browser, smart-TV app or title. A service can change its supported-device list, and a game can disable controller input even while the cloud app remains connected.
GeForce NOW example
NVIDIA’s published GeForce NOW requirements list MFi Bluetooth controllers for iPhone and iPad. For Android, NVIDIA lists supported gamepads and says that additional gamepads may work; some can require additional drivers or software updates. This supports a qualified answer for the Pro 3, not a promise that every GeForce NOW setup will accept it.
Before a GeForce NOW session, update the phone, controller-related software and GeForce NOW app, pair the Pro 3 in the operating system, and test it in the target game. If the service displays an unsupported-controller message or buttons do not register, consult NVIDIA’s current requirements rather than assuming that a successful Bluetooth pairing is enough.

Xbox Cloud Gaming and other services
There is no blanket evidence that the Pro 3 works with every Xbox Cloud Gaming configuration. Check the current Xbox service requirements for the exact platform you plan to use: Android app, iPhone or iPad browser, Windows app, Mac browser or a TV application can each have different input rules. The same caution applies to Amazon Luna, Boosteroid, Steam Link and other services. Verify both the service’s controller list and the individual game’s controller support before purchasing for cloud play.

Phone mounting and physical setup
8BitDo lists a compatible Mobile Gaming Clip for the Pro 3, sold separately. The clip is an accessory rather than part of the controller’s platform compatibility. If you want a handheld-style setup, confirm that the clip is included in the package you are buying; the listed support does not mean it comes in the box.
A clip-mounted phone adds weight to the controller, so check that the phone is secure, that its case does not obstruct the mount, and that a wired USB-C cable can reach the phone without putting sideways force on the port. Bluetooth avoids that cable during play.
Troubleshooting by symptom
The controller does not appear in Bluetooth settings
- Confirm the controller is in the intended device mode; for the Apple procedure, the manual specifies mode switch D.
- Press Start, then hold Pair for three seconds until the LED rolls side to side.
- Turn Bluetooth off and on again on the phone or tablet, then search again.
- Remove an old 8BitDo Pro 3 entry before attempting a fresh pairing if the device previously connected to another host.
- Keep the controller close to the device during discovery and temporarily disconnect it from another nearby host.
It pairs, but the game has no controls
- Open the game’s input settings and select its gamepad option if one is available.
- Test a second controller-compatible game. If that works, the first game’s input support is the likely limitation.
- For cloud gaming, test inside the streamed session rather than only on the service’s home screen.
- Restart the game or cloud app after pairing; some apps detect controllers only at launch.
Wired play fails
- On iPhone or iPad, verify that the device has USB-C; the documented wired Apple support does not cover Lightning-only models.
- Try a USB cable that carries data, not a charge-only cable.
- Reconnect the controller before launching the game and test another USB port or adapter where available.
- If Android recognizes charging but not controls, check whether the game supports USB gamepads and whether the adapter passes data.

Pre-purchase checklist
- Your Android device runs Android 13.0 or later, or your Apple device runs the relevant version 26 release.
- Your intended game or cloud service explicitly accepts a compatible gamepad.
- You know whether you need Bluetooth or a cable.
- For wired iPhone or iPad play, the device has a USB-C port.
- You have checked the service’s current controller requirements, especially for GeForce NOW or Xbox Cloud Gaming.
- You have budgeted separately for the Mobile Gaming Clip if you want a mounted-phone setup.
The practical verdict is straightforward: the Pro 3 is an officially supported Android 13+ and Apple 26-generation controller, with Bluetooth broadly available and USB supported under the documented port restrictions. Cloud gaming is viable when the specific service and game recognize its input profile; pairing alone is not a universal certification.
