It does not promise a locked frame rate in every scene, a preferred performance level for every player, or a particular battery life. The badge is a useful compatibility signal—not a guarantee that every game will feel smooth to you.
What the Steam Deck Verified badge means
Valve’s review considers whether a game works on Deck with its default configuration and without extra setup to access its functionality. The checklist goes beyond whether a game launches: it covers controls, controller prompts, text entry, readable text, display resolution, launchers, compatibility warnings, frame rate, and Proton or required middleware such as anti-cheat.
Valve describes the program as a way to help customers understand the experience they can expect before launching a game on Deck. The rating categories distinguish compatibility and setup requirements:
- Verified: The game passes the compatibility checks without configuration work needed to access all functionality.
- Playable: The game works, but may require a manual step, such as selecting a community controller layout, opening the on-screen keyboard, or using the touchscreen to navigate a launcher.
- Unsupported: The game does not function on the device because of incompatibility with Proton or specific hardware.
- Unknown: The game has not completed review, so compatibility information is unavailable.

Does Verified mean 60 fps—or a perfectly steady 30 fps?
No. Valve’s Steamworks checklist says a Deck game’s default configuration must produce a “playable framerate”; it specifies that as 30 fps at 800p. This is Valve’s stated compatibility criterion, not a claim that every Verified game locks to 30 fps in every scene or reaches 60 fps. The checklist does not set a higher frame-rate target for players who want one.
Valve also publishes separate technical recommendations intended to improve comfort, performance, and battery life. Those recommendations do not determine the compatibility badge. So Verified alone does not tell you whether a game’s frame pacing, visual settings, or unplugged runtime will meet your preferences.

Why a Verified game may still feel wrong for you
“Smooth” is partly personal. One player may be satisfied with a playable frame rate and straightforward controls; another may expect a high, consistent frame rate, minimal compromises, or a long session away from a charger. Valve’s checklist addresses a defined set of compatibility requirements, not every individual performance preference.
The badge is also based on a reviewed version of a game, while games, Proton, and Deck features can change. Valve says it reviews the catalog on an ongoing basis as new games and updates arrive. Its Steamworks documentation also describes automatic retesting after Proton changes, new tests, or reports that earlier information was inaccurate or incomplete. Check the current game-specific details rather than treating an old rating as permanent.

How to check a game before buying or playing
- Open the game’s Steam Store or Library page. Read the Deck compatibility details, not only the badge. Valve says the details for reviewed games are provided to help inform playing and purchasing decisions.
- Read any unmet criteria. For Playable or Unsupported titles, the Store details indicate requirements that are not met. Steamworks test reports can show results and specific Proton or middleware failures.
- Look for recent game-specific performance reports if frame rate or battery life matters. Deck Verified Games is a community project with user-submitted settings, performance reports, compatibility notes, and estimated battery information. These reports can add practical context, but they are not Valve certification and may not match your settings or device.
- Decide what matters most to you. Consider frame-rate stability, readable text, comfortable controls, how much setup you will tolerate, and battery life. A single compatibility badge cannot resolve every one of those preferences.
Are Verified ratings different on Steam Deck LCD and OLED?
Valve Support’s published search-result text says the OLED target performance specification matches the LCD model and that games reviewed through Deck Verified retain the same ratings on both. That supports treating the compatibility rating as shared across the two models; it does not establish identical subjective performance or battery life for every game on LCD and OLED. Valve’s Steam Deck software and troubleshooting guide is the relevant support reference.
