Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIf a League of Legends match still appears in Match History, try Riot’s replay and Highlights features. If its replay has expired or is missing, you can’t use recording software to recover footage retroactively; set up OBS before future games instead.
First, check whether the match is still available
Open the League client’s Match History and look for the match. Riot says replays can be downloaded from Match History or the end-of-game screen, but they last only for the current patch cycle: “Replays last for the length of a patch cycle, meaning they’ll expire once you patch up.” See Riot Support’s Replays FAQ & Pro-Tips for the current replay guidance.

A replay is not a permanent video archive. If the match is no longer available in the client, the sources here document no way to recreate its footage after the fact. Match and network logs are diagnostic files, not video recordings; Riot’s troubleshooting information does not describe them as gameplay footage.
Save a clip from an available replay
Open the replay in the client and use its recording control to capture the moment you want. Riot calls the resulting clips “Highlights” and says they are saved as WEBM video files. The Windows-style save path Riot gives is C:UsersDocumentsLeagueofLegendsHighlights; it should not be assumed to apply on other operating systems.

This is for selected moments, not a documented promise of an automatic full-match video archive. After recording, check the Highlights folder and open the WEBM file to confirm that the clip was saved and plays.
Record future matches with OBS
OBS captures the client and active game as they run, so configure it before the match you want to keep. OBS’s League-specific guide, written for version 31.1 or later and dated July 15, 2025, uses separate capture sources for the lobby and gameplay: OBS League of Legends Quick Start Guide.

The named executables are Windows process names, so these instructions should not be treated as a complete macOS setup guide. OBS records future gameplay; it does not restore a match whose replay is already gone.

Advanced option: Riot’s Replay API
Riot documents a local Replay API for advanced workflows involving playback state, camera and render properties, sequences, and recording control. It is disabled by default and the documentation describes enabling it in game.cfg. This developer-oriented route is not necessary for ordinary replay playback or OBS recording. See the Riot Developer Portal’s Replay API documentation.
