What happens to links in a saved page?
Save Page WE captures the page as currently displayed and stores its HTML and referenced resources in one HTML file. A hyperlink that is part of that HTML can remain clickable in the saved copy. That does not mean its destination has been saved: the extension’s description covers the current page and its resources, not following links to archive each destination. A retained link may still open its original online address, which could change or stop working.

How much content does it save?
The saved-item choice determines which resource types are included. The Mozilla Add-ons listing describes these choices:

- Standard: Basic content plus all HTML images, audio and video, object and embed files, and broader WOFF font support.
- Custom: lets you choose additional categories, including scripts in same-origin frames.
The file combines page HTML and resources: stylesheets are inlined, binary resources use Base64 data URIs, external scripts and frame content use data-URI representations, and iframe contents use srcdoc. Save Page WE also has an option to load lazy content, which can help include material that does not appear until the page is scrolled or otherwise activated. The final result still depends on what the page displays and what the extension can access.

Will interactive features work offline?
Not reliably. Save Page WE has an option to allow saved scripts to execute, but scripts are not allowed to execute by default. Custom saves can include scripts in same-origin frames; scripts in cross-origin frames are not saved. Even when a script is included and permitted to run, a feature that calls a remote API, requires a login, or otherwise depends on a live website may not work from the local file.
Cross-origin frames have an additional constraint: the extension says not all can be saved. A frame is saved only if all of its cross-origin ancestors can run content scripts. Treat saved interaction as a best-effort copy, not a dependable offline version of a modern web app. Allowing scripts to execute may help with some page behavior, but it does not restore missing scripts, frame content, or online services.

Which save method should you use?
The Chrome Web Store listing describes the old method as the default and says the new method can save more pages. The Mozilla Add-ons listing says the old method can fail on some pages in Chrome 84 or later and recommends trying the new method in that case; it also notes that the new method may not remember the last save location in Chrome. Because the two current store listings describe behavior somewhat differently, check your browser’s listing and the extension’s current settings. If a page fails to save with the old method, try the new method.
How to get a more complete saved copy
- Open the page and let the content you need appear. If the page has lazy-loaded sections, use Save Page WE’s option to load lazy content before saving.
- Choose Basic, Standard, or Custom based on the resources you need. Use Standard when you need media or broader font support; use Custom when you specifically need to include eligible same-origin frame scripts.
- If the old save method fails, switch to the new method and try again.
- Open the resulting HTML file in a browser. Check important images, media, links, frames, and interactions individually; a successful save does not establish that linked pages or server-dependent behavior will work offline.
