Does Replit Still Support Claude? Current Models, Agent Modes, and Alternatives (October 2026)

Yes. As of October 20, 2026, Replit still documents Anthropic Claude as an available integration, and users can reportedly select Claude or other supported models. The important change is the default: OpenAI is now Replit’s preferred partner for powering Replit Agent. That preference does not mean Claude was removed.

Replit’s live model list depends on your account, plan, Agent mode, routing and catalog availability. Use the in-product selector and current documentation rather than relying on a permanent model name. You can also connect provider models through AI Integrations, either with Replit-managed credentials or your own API keys stored in Secrets.

What changed: Claude support versus Replit’s default

Replit has not announced a complete withdrawal of Claude. Its integrations documentation continues to name Anthropic and Claude, and Replit’s AI Integrations announcement lists Claude alongside GPT, Gemini and a large OpenRouter catalog. In October 2026 reporting, Replit CEO Amjad Masad said users could still choose Anthropic’s Claude and other supported models while OpenAI became Replit’s preferred Agent partner.

That distinction explains why different users see different behavior. A new Agent task may be routed to an OpenAI model by default, while another account can expose Claude in the model picker. Plan entitlements, geography, rollout timing, workspace settings and temporary provider availability can all affect the choices shown. “Preferred” describes Replit’s current partnership and default direction; it does not establish that Claude is unavailable.

Which AI models can you use in Replit?

Replit presents model access in two overlapping ways: Agent’s built-in model and mode controls, and AI Integrations for app features that call external model providers. The exact model IDs are not permanent, so the table below describes the supported provider families and the use cases they fit rather than promising one model on every account.

Option What Replit currently documents or reports Useful when you need
Claude / Anthropic Named in Replit integrations; reported as still selectable after the OpenAI preference change Claude’s coding style, long-form reasoning or an Anthropic workflow
OpenAI GPT Replit’s preferred Agent partner in October 2026 reporting; also available through AI Integrations The current default-first Agent path or OpenAI-compatible app features
Google Gemini Listed as a provider in Replit’s AI Integrations and integrations documentation Gemini-oriented workflows and multimodal tasks
OpenRouter More than 300 additional text and image models are offered through Replit AI Integrations Broad choice across providers such as Llama, Grok, Mistral and other catalog entries
Agent modes Lite, Economy and Power; Turbo is a Power setting; Max is no longer available in the cited documentation Balancing speed, cost and capability without choosing a fixed model ID

Availability in that table is not a guarantee that every account can use every entry. Replit can change routing, retire a model, add a replacement or restrict a provider to particular plans. If a model name is absent from your selector, treat the live selector as the authoritative account-level answer.

What model does Replit Agent use now?

There is no single permanent answer for every Replit user. In the current arrangement, OpenAI is the preferred partner for Agent, so OpenAI-backed behavior may be the default for new work. Replit still allows supported alternatives where the account and mode expose them.

Agent’s controls are expressed as modes rather than only model names:

  • Lite: intended for lighter tasks where quick responses and lower usage are more important than maximum capability.
  • Economy: a middle option for routine implementation with a balance between speed, capability and credit consumption.
  • Power: targets more capable models for difficult coding, planning and debugging. Turbo is a Power setting, not a separate top-level mode.
  • Max: no longer appears in the cited current documentation, so instructions that tell you to select Max are outdated for this version of Replit.

Mode names describe Replit’s routing and resource policy; they do not guarantee a particular provider or model ID. A Power task can be routed differently as Replit changes its catalog.

How to check whether Claude is available on your account

The most reliable test is the model or mode control inside the current Agent interface. Labels can move as Replit updates the workspace, but the workflow is generally:

  1. Open the Replit workspace that contains the project you want Agent to edit.
  2. Open Agent and expand its model, mode or capability control near the prompt area.
  3. Look for Claude, Anthropic or a provider/model entry that identifies Anthropic. If only Lite, Economy and Power are shown, open the detailed settings within the selected mode.
  4. Record the exact displayed provider and model before starting a consequential task. The displayed value is more reliable than an old tutorial or a model name copied from another account.
  5. Run a small, reversible request first, such as asking Agent to explain one file or propose a test. Confirm the response and usage behavior before assigning a large refactor.

If Claude is missing, that does not prove Replit has ended support. It can indicate a plan restriction, staged rollout, regional availability, a temporary provider outage or a mode that hides manual model selection. Check the account’s current integrations and billing pages, then contact Replit support if documentation and the selector disagree.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can you switch Replit Agent from GPT to Claude?

When your account exposes both providers, use the Agent model selector before submitting the task. Select Claude or an Anthropic entry, keep the desired Lite, Economy or Power setting, and start a new prompt. Some workspaces preserve the selection only for the current task or session, so verify it again when opening a new project.

For a controlled comparison, give both models the same small specification and provide the same files and tests. Compare the plan, code changes, test results, latency and credit use. Do not assume one provider is universally better: model quality depends on the task, context size, tool permissions and the mode Replit chooses behind the label.

If no manual selector is available, you cannot force a provider through prompt wording alone. Use AI Integrations for application-level calls, or ask an administrator to confirm plan and workspace permissions. Avoid hard-coding an undocumented model ID; Replit can change or remove it.

Using Claude, GPT or Gemini in an app with AI Integrations

Agent’s own model is separate from a model your deployed application calls. Replit AI Integrations can provision access to GPT, Gemini, Claude and OpenRouter models for app features such as chat, summarization or content generation.

Replit-managed credentials

With managed access, Replit handles the provider connection and bills usage through Replit credits at the provider’s API rates. This is convenient for prototypes and shared projects because you do not paste a secret key into source code. It also means your credit balance and Replit’s current provider pricing determine the effective cost.

Your own provider key

You can instead supply your own OpenAI, Anthropic or Google API key through Replit Secrets. Store the key as a secret, reference the secret from server-side code or the integration configuration, and keep it out of client-side JavaScript, logs and committed files. A personal key makes billing and rate limits follow the provider account, while Replit still controls the integration surface and any supported routing.

  1. Open the project’s Secrets or environment-variable settings.
  2. Create a secret whose name matches the variable expected by your integration or server code.
  3. Paste the provider key without quotes or extra whitespace, then save it.
  4. Configure the AI Integration or application code to read that secret at runtime.
  5. Make a test request from a server-side route and verify that the key is not returned in the response or exposed in browser developer tools.
  6. Revoke and replace the key at the provider if it was ever committed, printed in logs or shared in a public project.

Provider keys are not a way to unlock every Agent model. They primarily control API calls made by your application; Agent’s own model availability remains subject to Replit’s interface, routing and plan.

  • Need multimodal input: check the specific Gemini or other provider entry for image and file support; capabilities vary by model, not merely by provider name.
  • Need many model families: use OpenRouter’s catalog, which Replit describes as containing more than 300 text and image models.
  • Need lower latency or predictable credit use: try Lite or Economy before assigning a large Power task, then inspect the resulting quality and usage.
  • Need maximum reasoning for a difficult migration: use Power or Turbo when available, but test on a copy of the project and monitor credits.

Evaluate coding quality with the same acceptance tests you would use for a human change: compilation, unit tests, security checks, migration safety and reviewability. A fluent answer is not evidence that the generated code is correct.

Costs, credits and plan constraints

Managed AI Integrations are billed through Replit credits at provider API rates. Your total cost therefore depends on the selected provider, model, input and output tokens, image usage where applicable, and how often the application calls the model. Agent mode can also affect consumption because more capable routing generally uses more resources, although Replit’s exact internal accounting can change.

The cited Replit pricing page lists the Core plan at $20 per month, or $18 per month when billed annually, and the Pro plan at $100 per month, or $90 per month when billed annually. Those are plan prices shown for the page accessed October 20, 2026; they are not a promise of a fixed model allowance or provider rate. Check the live plan details for your billing region before budgeting.

Using your own provider key shifts API charges to that provider account. You remain responsible for that provider’s quotas, payment method, retention settings and rate limits. Replit plan access and provider-account access are separate controls.

Your plan or workspace lacks entitlement

Some models or higher-capability modes may be limited by plan, organization policy or staged rollout. Have the workspace owner verify the plan and any provider restrictions.

Provider routing is temporarily unavailable

A provider outage, capacity limit or regional restriction can remove an option temporarily. Retry later, choose another supported provider, or use an application integration with your own key if your project architecture allows it.

Your app key is invalid

Check the secret name, remove accidental spaces, confirm the key is active with the provider and test from a server-side route. Never solve a key error by embedding the key in browser code.

How Claude fits into Replit’s history

Replit Agent v2 entered early access in 2025 in partnership with Anthropic’s Claude 3.7 Sonnet. Replit later broadened its integrations to include multiple providers and OpenRouter’s larger catalog. In June 2026, Replit announced that Claude could hand off a general development task to Replit through the official Replit Connector. These milestones show an expansion from a prominent Claude partnership to a multi-provider platform, not evidence that Claude support ended.

Practical answer to the four common questions

  • Does Replit still support Claude? Yes, Claude remains documented and reportedly selectable for supported accounts as of October 20, 2026.
  • Did Replit replace Claude with ChatGPT? No. OpenAI became the preferred Agent partner, while Claude and other supported models remain available where your account exposes them.
  • What model does Agent use now? The default may be OpenAI-backed, but the actual provider and model depend on your selector, mode, plan and routing.
  • Can you use your own API key? Yes. AI Integrations can use your own provider key stored in Replit Secrets, with billing and quotas handled by that provider account.
