Usually, no. Google documents Pixel Call Screen as an on-device feature: during screening, the transcript and recording stay on your Pixel by default. Screened-call information is not saved to your Google Account, Google Assistant or Call Assist activity, or Web & App Activity under the documented behavior.
There is one important exception. After a screened call, you can voluntarily send Google the screening-phase recording, transcript, and related call details to improve Call Screen and spam detection. Google says humans may review that submitted caller data, and shared data can remain on Google servers for up to two years.

What Pixel Call Screen does by default
Call Screen answers an incoming call before you decide whether to join it. The Pixel and the Phone app handle the screening interaction on the device. Google’s Phone app Help describes this as “new, on-device technology” intended to keep calls private.
While the caller is being screened, the phone can create a transcript and recording so you can see or hear what the caller says. Those files are stored only on the Pixel by default. They are not automatically uploaded as part of ordinary screening.

The privacy boundary is the point at which you join the call. Google says it does not process call data outside the screening phase. In practical terms, the documented Call Screen behavior covers the exchange before you join; it does not describe Google processing the rest of a conversation after you take over the call.
Is the phone recording me?
Call Screen does record the screening exchange on the device so it can present a transcript and let you review what happened. That is different from recording every call you make or receive. The documented recording is tied to the screening phase, and the default storage location is your Pixel rather than Google’s servers.
What is not added to your Google account activity
Google’s documentation says screened-call information is not saved to the following account histories under the documented Call Screen behavior:

- Google Assistant or Call Assist activity.
- Web & App Activity.
This means a screened-call transcript or recording should not appear as an item in those activity timelines simply because Call Screen handled the call. The files can still exist locally on the phone while the screening result is available for you to review.

When Call Screen can send data to Google
Google receives screening data only when you choose to share it after the call. The sharing decision is separate from using Call Screen itself; screening does not require you to submit the material.
Review before you share
Google says you can review the screening audio and transcript before deciding. The review gives you a chance to check whether the caller disclosed names, account numbers, addresses, medical information, or other details you do not want to send away.
- Open the completed Call Screen result and review the available recording and transcript.
- Start the sharing flow only if you want to contribute the screening data.
- Choose the sharing option presented by the Phone app. If you select No thanks or cancel, you do not submit the package.
- If you proceed, understand that the submission can include more than the words in the transcript.
What the optional submission may contain
Google’s listed sharing package can include:
- The recording and transcript from the screening phase.
- System logs, including diagnostic information.
- The business phone number when the call comes from a business, school, or other organization.
- Greetings and disclosures played during the call.
- Google’s spam verdict for the business number.
- Call Screen event times rounded to the nearest hour.
These are potential components of the package, not a promise that every submission contains every item. They also show why “audio only” is too narrow a description: a voluntary report can carry metadata and diagnostic information alongside the caller’s words.

What happens if you decline
If you stop the sharing flow, choose No thanks, or cancel, Google says the recording is deleted from the device immediately. That statement concerns the recording; do not assume it describes every other local artifact or your phone’s general call history. The key result is that declining prevents the optional upload.

Can Google employees hear a screened call?
Potentially, but only for data you voluntarily submit. Google states that humans may review caller data to improve machine learning and spam detection in Call Screen. Therefore, a submitted screening recording or transcript may be available for human review.
For a call you never submit, the documented default is on-device storage. The material remains on the Pixel rather than being sent to Google for this improvement program. Google does not publish a review percentage in the cited documentation, so you cannot infer that every submission is examined or that none is.
How long Google keeps shared Call Screen data
Google says voluntarily shared Call Screen data can be stored on Google servers for up to two years. This is a maximum stated in the Phone app Help, accessed October 20, 2026; it is not evidence that each submission remains for the full two-year period.

The anonymous “Google user” choice
The sharing flow can offer a choice to submit as Google user. Google says this removes identifiers, but it also warns that an anonymous submission cannot later be linked back to you. As a result, you lose the ability to revoke or delete that data through your account.
| Sharing choice | Identifier status | Deletion consequence |
|---|---|---|
| Share with your account identity | Identifiers retained by default | You can find and delete the shared data in My Activity |
| Share as “Google user” | Identifiers removed | The submission cannot be linked back for later revocation or deletion |
| No thanks or cancel | No optional server submission | The recording is deleted from the device immediately, according to Google |
Screening phase versus the full call
Call Screen privacy questions often mix two different conversations. The first is the short exchange while the caller is being screened. The second begins after you join and speak directly with the caller.
- Screening phase: The Pixel may record and transcribe it locally. You can optionally submit that material and associated details.
- After you join: Google says it does not process call data outside the screening phase.
The optional sharing package is therefore not described as a recording of your entire telephone conversation. It is limited to the screening-phase material and the listed metadata, such as diagnostics, a business number, disclosures, a spam verdict, and rounded event times.

Availability and settings depend on region and device
Google documents automatic Call Screen for English in the United States on Pixel phones running Android 10 or later. Availability and settings can vary by language, country, device model, and software version, so a Pixel owner elsewhere may see different controls or no automatic screening option.

Privacy trade-offs at a glance
| Question | Default on-device screening | Optional sharing |
|---|---|---|
| Where processing and storage occur | On the Pixel during screening | Selected screening data is sent to Google servers |
| Scope of audio and text | Screening phase only | Screening-phase recording and transcript, plus listed metadata |
| Account activity | Not added to Google Account, Assistant/Call Assist activity, or Web & App Activity | Identified submissions can appear in My Activity for management |
| Human access | No server submission for the improvement program | Humans may review caller data |
| Retention | Local storage on the phone; Google’s server-retention rule does not apply unless you share | Up to two years on Google servers |
| Deletion | You manage the local copy on the Pixel | Identified data can be deleted in My Activity; anonymous submissions cannot be linked back |
Steps for making a privacy-conscious choice
- Confirm that the call was screened. Look for the Call Screen result rather than assuming every incoming call used the feature.
- Read the transcript and listen to the screening audio. Check for personal, financial, workplace, health, or other sensitive information.
- Decide whether the improvement benefit is worth the disclosure. Sharing can help Google improve machine learning and spam detection, but it sends the screening package and listed metadata off the device.
- Decline when you do not want to submit it. Use No thanks or cancel the flow. Google says the recording is then deleted from the device immediately.
- If you share, choose identity deliberately. An identified submission can be managed and deleted in My Activity. The anonymous Google user option removes identifiers but prevents later account-based deletion.
- Check My Activity later if you shared with your identity. Use the available Call Screen entry and deletion controls rather than assuming server data disappears as soon as the local screen closes.
Common misunderstandings
“If a transcript exists, it must be in my Google account.”
No. Google’s documented default keeps the transcript and recording on the phone and excludes screened-call information from the listed account activity histories.
“Call Screen sends everything I say on the call.”
The documented sharing package is limited to the screening phase and associated listed details. Google says it does not process call data outside that phase after you join.
“Choosing anonymous sharing means I can delete it later.”
The opposite is true in Google’s warning: removing identifiers prevents the submission from being linked back to you, so account-based revocation or deletion is not available.
“Two years means every upload is kept for two years.”
Two years is the stated server-retention maximum. It is not a claim that every item remains for that entire period.
Bottom line for privacy-sensitive Pixel owners
Pixel Call Screen is private by default in the narrow, documented sense that screening transcripts and recordings stay on the phone and screened-call data is not placed in the listed Google activity histories. The boundary changes only when you actively share the screening result. That choice can send audio, text, diagnostics, business-call details, disclosures, spam verdicts, and rounded timestamps to Google, where humans may review the data and server storage can last up to two years. Keep sharing off when local processing is your priority; if you do share, review the material first and avoid anonymous submission if future deletion matters.
