Yes. Desktop Chrome has a toolbar beside the address bar, and you can choose which toolbar buttons appear there. The bookmarks bar is a separate row for saved sites, while Android Chrome has its own configurable toolbar shortcut. These controls differ by platform, so the desktop instructions do not apply to every version of Chrome.
What counts as Chrome’s toolbar?
On desktop, the toolbar is the area beside the address bar that holds Chrome controls and, where applicable, extension icons. The bookmarks bar is a separate row of saved-site shortcuts. Chrome’s side panel is another distinct area: it can show tools such as Bookmarks, Reading list, History, Google Lens, and Reading mode.

Some side-panel tools can be pinned to the toolbar. In that case, the toolbar button is an entry point to the tool; it does not turn the side panel into the bookmarks bar.
How to customize the desktop toolbar
Google provides more than one route to the toolbar settings. Open More > More tools > Customize Chrome, then choose Toolbar. You can also go to Settings > Appearance > Customize your toolbar. The New Tab page and a pinned toolbar button also provide routes to customization. Menu labels may change in future Chrome updates.

Choose and arrange buttons
- Select the toolbar buttons you want to enable or disable. The first button selected appears first in the toolbar order.
- Drag pinned buttons to change their positions. Disabled buttons cannot be reordered.
- To remove a button’s pin, right-click it and choose Unpin.
- Use the reset-to-default option in toolbar customization if you want to restore Chrome’s default arrangement.
Where toolbar actions open
Not every button opens content in the same place. Chrome Help says Reading list opens in the side panel, Delete browsing data opens in a new tab, and Translate and Send Tab to Self open in a bubble beside the address bar.
How to show or hide the bookmarks bar
To display or hide the row of saved-site shortcuts, select More > Bookmarks and lists > Show bookmarks bar. This changes the bookmarks bar, not the toolbar-button settings.

Hiding the bar does not remove saved bookmarks. You can still find them through the address bar, Bookmark Manager, or navigation panel. On the documented desktop setup, Ctrl+Shift+B also toggles the bookmarks bar.
How extensions affect the desktop toolbar
Extensions added through the Chrome Web Store can place icons beside the address bar. Drag an icon to arrange it, or right-click it and choose Unpin to hide it from the toolbar. Hidden extensions remain available from the Extensions menu. Google advises installing only extensions you trust.

How the Android toolbar shortcut differs
Android Chrome configures a toolbar shortcut separately from desktop toolbar buttons. Open Settings > Appearance > Toolbar shortcut, then turn the shortcut on or off and select from the choices shown on your device. Listed options include New tab, Share, Voice search, Bookmark, Translate, and Delete browsing data. The available choices are specific to Android’s shortcut control, not the desktop toolbar-button list.
Keyboard access on desktop
On the desktop setup documented by Google, Shift+Alt+T focuses the first toolbar item, while F10 focuses the rightmost toolbar item. Ctrl+L or Alt+D focuses the address bar. Shortcuts can vary by operating system.
