That does not make every ChatGPT feature unlimited: file uploads, image generation, voice, data analysis and other tools have separate allowances. Go raises eligible tool limits and adds features such as longer memory, projects, tasks, custom GPTs and Library access, but OpenAI’s current documentation does not publish one universal numeric quota table for every Free and Go feature.
Does ChatGPT Free have GPT-6 Luna?
Yes. GPT-6 Luna is included with ChatGPT Free following the global rollout that began in October 2026. OpenAI’s release notes dated October 7, 2026, state that the rollout expanded to Free and Go starting the following day. A separate deployment-safety update describes GPT-6 as launching globally across free and paid ChatGPT plans.

The practical answer is therefore straightforward: a Free account can use GPT-6 Luna in ChatGPT, and a Go account can use the same Luna model. The plan difference is not whether Luna exists on the account; it is how much access you receive to tools and supporting features, and which higher model tiers remain unavailable.
Is GPT-6 Luna included with ChatGPT Go?
Yes. ChatGPT Go also includes GPT-6 Luna. OpenAI’s October 7 release notes summarize the model split this way: “Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise use GPT-6 Sol; Free and Go use GPT-6 Luna.” That wording identifies the model assigned to each group after the rollout rather than describing a temporary trial.

Free and Go do not include GPT-6 Sol or the higher GPT-6 reasoning tiers described for eligible paid plans. Moving from Free to Go therefore increases eligible usage and feature availability around Luna; it does not upgrade the account to Sol.

This table separates two ideas that are often confused. Both plans have unlimited everyday text access under the stated safeguards, while Go provides higher eligible limits for several resource-intensive tools and a broader feature set.
What does “unlimited text chats” mean?
OpenAI describes everyday text chats on Free and Go as unlimited, subject to abuse-prevention safeguards. You can continue ordinary text conversations without a published daily message count that automatically ends access to GPT-6 Luna.

Text messages are separate from tools
A conversation can contain more than typed prompts and model replies. Uploading a document, generating an image, using voice, or running data analysis consumes a tool allowance. Reaching one of those limits does not necessarily mean that ordinary text chat has ended, and having unlimited text access does not grant unlimited use of those tools.

Why a text conversation can still trigger a limit
If a prompt invokes a tool, the relevant tool quota governs that action. A long text conversation may continue while an upload or analysis request is temporarily unavailable. Conversely, a safeguard may restrict an account’s activity even though the general plan description says everyday text is unlimited.
Are image uploads and image generation unlimited on ChatGPT Go?
No universal unlimited allowance is established for them. File uploads and image generation have separate limits on both Free and Go. Go offers higher eligible limits than Free, but that wording does not mean infinite use.

Image generation is an output tool: the service creates an image from your prompt. File uploads are an input tool: you attach documents or other supported files for the model to inspect. They are distinct capabilities and can have distinct counters, even when used in the same conversation.
What happens when a tool limit is reached?
ChatGPT may prevent another upload, image request, or analysis operation until the applicable allowance resets. When a reset time is available, ChatGPT shows it in the interface. The displayed time is more useful than a generic internet quota because it reflects the plan, model and account state that apply to your session.
Is voice unlimited on Free or Go?
The available plan description does not establish unlimited voice access for either plan. Voice has its own limits, separate from everyday text chats. Go’s documented expansion specifically identifies higher eligible limits for image generation, file uploads and advanced data analysis; it does not say that Go removes voice limits.

Treat voice as a separately metered feature. If ChatGPT displays a warning or reset time for voice, that message governs your account at that moment. Do not infer a voice allowance from the unlimited-text wording.

How do advanced data analysis limits work?
Advanced data analysis is also separate from text messaging. Free accounts have a plan-specific allowance, while Go provides higher eligible limits than Free. The reviewed official documentation does not provide one fixed number that applies to every account, file type, model or date.
Data-analysis requests can involve uploaded files, so both the analysis capability and the upload capability may matter. A request might be blocked because the account has reached an analysis allowance, an upload allowance, or another applicable limit. Check the message ChatGPT gives you rather than assuming that a text-chat limit has been reached.
Does Go include longer memory and extra workspace features?
Yes, Go offers longer memory and access to projects, tasks, custom GPTs and Library, subject to feature availability and storage limits. These additions affect how you organize and reuse work; they are not a different GPT-6 model.
Longer memory
Longer memory can let ChatGPT retain relevant context across more interactions, but it remains subject to the service’s feature and storage constraints. A longer memory allowance should not be interpreted as unlimited storage for every conversation or file.

Projects and tasks
Projects group related work, while tasks support scheduled or otherwise organized actions where the feature is available. Their availability can depend on the account and the current rollout. They are Go features in the documented expansion, not evidence that Free users receive GPT-6 Sol.
Custom GPTs and Library
Go provides access to custom GPTs and Library, subject to the same qualification about availability and storage limits. These features expand what you can create, save and retrieve, while the underlying model assignment remains GPT-6 Luna.

OpenAI’s reviewed documentation does not publish a single universal numeric table covering every Free and Go allowance. Limits can depend on the plan, the selected model and, for managed workspaces, administrator-controlled settings. Some limits are dynamic rather than fixed for all users.
This means a number copied from an older guide may not describe your account. It may refer to a different model, a different feature, a promotional or temporary allowance, or a managed workspace policy. The absence of a universal table is not evidence that no limits exist; it means the applicable quota is determined in context.

Where to find the limit that applies to you
- Open ChatGPT while signed in to the account and plan you are using.
- Start the action you need, such as attaching a file, requesting an image, starting voice, or running data analysis.
- Read any limit notice shown for that specific feature.
- If ChatGPT provides a reset time, use that time as the current estimate for when the feature becomes available again.
- For a managed workspace, check with the workspace administrator because organizational settings can change the effective allowance.
This approach avoids treating the unlimited-text description as a quota for tools it does not cover.

What does the October 2026 rollout change?
The release notes dated October 7, 2026, say the global rollout began with paid plans and expanded to Free and Go starting the next day. After that expansion, Free and Go were assigned GPT-6 Luna, while Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise used GPT-6 Sol.
Rollout language matters because model availability can change by date and plan. A page written before the October 2026 expansion may correctly describe an earlier configuration but no longer answer whether Free includes Luna. For the current rollout described here, both Free and Go do.
Which plan fits which use case?
Choose Free if your work is mostly text
Free is sufficient when your main requirement is ordinary text conversation with GPT-6 Luna and you can accept separate, lower allowances for uploads, image generation, voice and data analysis. Unlimited everyday text means you do not need to buy Go merely to keep sending normal written prompts, assuming your activity remains within abuse-prevention safeguards.
Choose Go when tools are the bottleneck
Go is the more suitable tier when you regularly upload files, generate images or run advanced data analysis and need higher eligible limits than Free provides. Its longer memory and access to projects, tasks, custom GPTs and Library can also matter if you maintain ongoing work rather than isolated chats.
Do not choose Go expecting GPT-6 Sol
If your reason for upgrading is access to GPT-6 Sol or the higher GPT-6 reasoning tiers described for eligible paid plans, Go does not provide that upgrade. Both Free and Go use GPT-6 Luna in ChatGPT under the October 2026 rollout.
Common misunderstandings and fixes
- “Unlimited text means unlimited uploads.” It does not. Uploads have a separate allowance. Wait for the upload reset or use text-only chat until it returns.
- “Go removes every limit.” It does not. Go raises eligible limits and adds features, while voice and other tools remain separately limited.
- “A blocked image request means Luna is unavailable.” Usually it indicates the image-generation allowance, not the text model, has reached its limit. Check the notice and reset time.
- “A quota from another account must apply to me.” Not necessarily. Plan, model and workspace settings can change the effective allowance.
- “Go includes the higher GPT-6 tiers.” It does not. The documented model assignment for Go is GPT-6 Luna.
Bottom line for Free and Go users
Both ChatGPT Free and ChatGPT Go include GPT-6 Luna after the October 2026 rollout. Both describe everyday text chats as unlimited, subject to abuse-prevention safeguards. The meaningful difference is around tools and workspace features: Go provides higher eligible limits for image generation, file uploads and advanced data analysis, plus longer memory and access to projects, tasks, custom GPTs and Library. Because OpenAI does not publish one fixed numeric table for every allowance, rely on the limit and reset information shown in your ChatGPT account, especially in managed workspaces.
