Does Burn With Me Support Steam Deck, Cloud Saves, and Controller Play?

Short answer: Burn With Me advertises Steam Cloud and lists SteamOS + Linux requirements. Its Steam store page currently reports Steam Deck Compatibility: Unknown, not Verified, Playable, or Unsupported. The listing also does not confirm native controller support and includes a Mouse Only Option. Cloud saves are the only one of the three features explicitly confirmed; Deck behavior and controller play should be treated as unverified.

What is confirmed for Burn With Me

The official Steam listing identifies Burn With Me as a story-centric deckbuilder with Windows, macOS, and SteamOS + Linux system requirements. That establishes that the developer publishes requirements for Linux-based systems, but it does not amount to a Steam Deck certification.

Feature Current evidence What you should assume
Steam Deck compatibility Steam reports Unknown Not officially confirmed as Verified or Playable
Cloud saves Steam Cloud is listed as a feature Cloud synchronization is supported through Steam when it completes successfully
Controller play No full, partial, or native gamepad claim is shown; a Mouse Only Option is listed Controller use is unverified
Operating systems Windows, macOS, and SteamOS + Linux requirements are listed Linux availability does not guarantee a good Deck experience

What “Unknown” means on Steam Deck

Valve uses four broad compatibility labels: Verified, Playable, Unsupported, and Unknown. Unknown means Valve has not assigned a positive or negative Deck rating to the title. It is not a statement that the game fails on Deck, but it is also not evidence that the game works properly.

A Verified game is expected to work out of the box with complete controller support, readable input prompts, suitable display behavior, seamless operation without manual configuration, and supported system software. Those expectations are category requirements, not a promise that Burn With Me meets them. Because Burn With Me is currently Unknown, you should not infer Verified-level behavior from the store page.

Does Burn With Me run on Steam Deck?

What the Linux requirement tells you

The Steam listing includes SteamOS + Linux requirements. Steam Deck uses a Linux-based operating system, so that entry is relevant and may indicate that the developer has considered Linux operation. However, a Linux requirement can cover desktop distributions with different drivers, display environments, and input devices. It does not test every Deck control, resolution, suspend-and-resume path, or compatibility layer.

In practical terms, the listing supports the possibility of running Burn With Me on Deck, but it does not provide the evidence needed to call the experience supported. The safest description is potentially runnable, officially unrated.

How to check before installing

  1. Open the Burn With Me page in the Steam store or your Steam Library.
  2. Look at the Steam Deck Compatibility panel. If it still says Unknown, there is no Valve-issued Verified or Playable classification to rely on.
  3. Read the control and display notes rather than treating the Linux requirement as a certification.
  4. If you own a Deck, install the game only when you are comfortable testing an unrated title. Keep another input method available if the game does not respond well to the built-in controls.

Store ratings can change as Valve reviews more data or the developer updates the game. A later label should be checked directly on the current store page instead of inferred from an older article or screenshot.

Does Burn With Me have Steam Cloud saves?

Yes. Steam Cloud is explicitly listed as a Burn With Me feature. Steam Cloud is Steam’s synchronization service for save games and other user-specific files. SteamDB metadata for the title records cloud entries for *.cfg files and includes Linux save-path information, which confirms that cloud metadata exists for the game. The available listing does not establish that every file a player might consider a save is synchronized, so treat the cloud entry as support for the configured files rather than a guarantee that every local file is copied.

What cloud saves allow

When synchronization succeeds, Steam can upload the configured files from one Steam installation and download them to another installation using the same Steam account. That is the mechanism you would use to move progress between a Windows or macOS computer and a Steam Deck. Cloud storage is not the same as a manual backup: it depends on Steam being online, the game closing cleanly, and the upload completing.

Enable and verify Steam Cloud on desktop Steam

  1. Open your Steam Library and select Burn With Me.
  2. Open the game’s Properties window.
  3. In General, locate the Steam Cloud setting and leave the option to keep the game in Steam Cloud enabled.
  4. Launch the game, make a small progress change, and exit normally.
  5. Wait for Steam to finish synchronization before shutting down or switching devices. A pending, paused, or failed cloud status means the new progress has not necessarily reached the server.

Use the same process on Steam Deck

  1. Open the game’s page in your Deck Library.
  2. Open the game’s settings menu and choose Properties, then check the General section for the Steam Cloud option.
  3. Start the game only after Steam shows that synchronization is complete.
  4. After playing, exit to the Steam interface and allow the upload to finish before putting the Deck to sleep or opening the game elsewhere.

Cloud synchronization should be treated as a hand-off process: finish on one device, wait for the upload, then start on the other device and wait for the download.

Cloud-save conflicts and recovery

If Steam asks which copy to keep

A conflict normally means Steam sees different local and cloud versions. Do not choose randomly if the progress matters. First identify which device contains the newest session by checking the last time you played and the visible in-game progress. Keep the newer copy, then allow Steam to synchronize that selection. If you are unsure, preserve a local backup of the relevant game folder before making a choice; the SteamDB metadata indicates that configuration files with a .cfg extension are among the cloud-tracked items, but the exact local contents can vary by operating system and installation.

If progress does not appear on the other device

  • Confirm both devices use the same Steam account.
  • Check that Steam Cloud is enabled for Burn With Me and globally in Steam settings.
  • Reconnect to the internet and wait for Steam to report a completed sync.
  • Close the game completely on the first device; leaving it suspended can prevent the final upload.
  • Look for a conflict dialog or a cloud error indicator before launching the second copy.
  • Do not repeatedly overwrite files while troubleshooting, because a later upload can replace the version you intended to keep.

Steam Cloud is a convenience and synchronization layer, not an independently verified backup archive. For important long-running progress, keep a separate copy of the local save data when you can identify it.

Can you play Burn With Me with a controller?

The current Steam listing does not claim full controller support, partial controller support, or native gamepad input. It does list a Mouse Only Option. That wording indicates that mouse-oriented play is supported, but it does not answer whether a gamepad works through native bindings or Steam Input. Therefore, controller compatibility remains unconfirmed, not confirmed and not ruled out.

  • Versatile Controls: With built-in thumbsticks, trackpads, and touchscreen controls, you have full control over your gaming experience.

Why the Mouse Only Option matters

A mouse-only setting is a warning for anyone expecting console-style controls. It may mean that the game’s intended interaction model is pointer-based, that keyboard and mouse are the documented inputs, or simply that the developer has exposed a mode for users who prefer a mouse. None of those interpretations proves that a controller cannot be mapped, but none proves that menus, prompts, and gameplay will be comfortable from a gamepad either.

What you can try on Deck

  1. Connect the Deck to the internet and install the latest available game and Steam updates.
  2. Start with the default controller layout shown by Steam. If the game responds to some buttons but not others, that is evidence of partial usability, not official support.
  3. Open the game’s controller-layout screen and inspect community or generic layouts only if you accept that they are user-created and may be incomplete.
  4. Test the complete loop: title screen, menus, text selection, deckbuilding actions, pausing, saving, and quitting. A layout that moves a pointer is not necessarily adequate for every screen.
  5. If controls remain awkward, use a Bluetooth or USB mouse and keyboard. That matches the mouse-oriented option more closely than forcing an unverified gamepad mapping.

Steam Input can translate controller buttons into mouse or keyboard commands, but the existence of that system does not certify a title. Mappings may need manual adjustment, may show keyboard prompts, and can break after a game update. Do not describe a successful personal mapping as native controller support.

What the review score does—and does not—tell you

A Steam snapshot from 2026 showed 90% positive reviews from 229 user reviews. That is a volatile store figure and can change as new reviews arrive. It may indicate that many buyers enjoyed the game overall, but it does not establish Steam Deck compatibility, cloud-sync reliability, or controller behavior. Those technical questions require the compatibility information and feature listings above.

  • Like the name suggests, the Steam Deck will include upgraded 1TB storage, and will include a carrying case. A micro SD slot will also enable expanded storage.
  • Valve partnered with AMD to create a specialized APU optimized for handheld gaming, and Valve says the chip will deliver performance to run AAA gaming titles.
  • The Steam Deck is outfitted with a 7-inch touchscreen, and two trackpads under the control sticks that allow gamers to operate games never designed outside of mouse and keyboard capabilities.

Should you buy Burn With Me for Steam Deck?

Buy it for Deck only if you are comfortable with an unrated Linux game and potentially mouse-focused input. The strongest confirmed feature for a multi-device player is Steam Cloud. The two uncertainties are the quality of the Deck experience and whether a controller layout will be practical.

  • Good fit: you already use a mouse or keyboard with your Deck, accept testing an Unknown title, and value cloud synchronization.
  • Proceed cautiously: you want handheld-only play, expect every menu to work from a gamepad, or need a formal compatibility rating before purchasing.
  • Do not assume: SteamOS + Linux requirements equal Verified status, Steam Input equals native support, or Steam Cloud means every local file is backed up.

The current evidence supports Steam Cloud, while Deck certification and controller play still require caution or direct confirmation from a future store update or developer statement.
