What Bell announced—and what it did not
On March 5, 2026, Bell announced 5G+ Advanced, describing a new 5G standalone (SA) core and a spectrum deployment intended to provide more capacity and lower latency. Bell cited theoretical peak download speeds of up to 4.3 Gbps. That is a network-level theoretical figure, not a measured smartwatch speed or a watch-specific performance claim. Why Bell’s watch messaging is ambiguous
Bell’s network page has a section titled “Watches that unlock the power of Bell 5G” and displays Apple Watch models. Yet Bell’s setup guidance describes cellular Apple Watch connecting to Bell Mobility LTE, through either NumberShare or an Apple Watch standalone plan. Its Samsung instructions describe LTE-capable Galaxy Watches connecting to Bell Mobility LTE through NumberShare. Both support paths refer to service where VoLTE coverage is available. Those statements do not necessarily contradict one another: Bell may be using “5G” to describe device compatibility or its broader network offering. That is only a possible interpretation, not something the cited support pages verify. The available documentation leaves the key question unanswered: whether Bell smartwatch plans connect watches using 5G radio access. Bell should confirm that point directly before anyone treats the marketing label as proof of 5G service on the wrist.

Bell’s 5G+ Advanced coverage
Bell’s current network page says its 5G+ Advanced rollout is underway in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, including Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton, Niagara, and other locations. What you need to use a cellular smartwatch with Bell

Apple Watch: NumberShare or standalone
- Choose an Apple Watch model with cellular connectivity; a GPS-only model does not provide the watch’s own cellular connection.
- With NumberShare, the watch shares the iPhone’s number and can stay connected when the iPhone is not nearby.
- Bell also documents a standalone plan for eligible Apple Watch models, with a dedicated number.

Samsung Galaxy Watch: NumberShare

Bell’s business device catalogue lists Apple Watch Series 11, Samsung Galaxy Watch8, and Google Pixel Watch 4/5 models. Where watch connectivity works—and where it does not
Bell says the documented Apple and Samsung cellular-watch services work in Canada where VoLTE coverage is available. International roaming is currently unavailable on those paths. Outside VoLTE-covered areas, the watch can use Bluetooth with its paired phone, but that is not an independent cellular connection. What to ask Bell before choosing a watch
- Confirm that the exact watch model and regional variant can be activated on the Bell plan you want.
- Ask whether the watch’s cellular connection on that plan uses 5G radio access or LTE/VoLTE. Bell’s marketing page and setup documents do not settle this.
- Check whether you need NumberShare, an eligible Apple Watch standalone plan, a compatible phone, or a particular Bell account type.
- Check address-level coverage where you will use the watch, and confirm the current roaming limits and software requirements.
Compare a cellular model—such as Apple Watch GPS + Cellular or a Samsung Galaxy Watch LTE—with a Bluetooth-only version only after confirming carrier activation. The presence of cellular hardware does not, by itself, establish Bell plan eligibility or 5G connectivity.
