You need Wi-Fi for first-time setup, but an iPhone or iPad is optional: it can speed setup with Quick Start, or you can choose Set Up Manually on the headset and sign in to your Apple Account.
Can you set up Apple Vision Pro without an iPhone?
Yes. Apple’s Vision Pro setup guide says the initial setup requires a Wi-Fi connection. An iPhone running iOS 17 or later, or an iPad running iPadOS 17 or later, can optionally help transfer setup information through Quick Start. If neither is available, Apple says to double-click the Digital Crown and set up manually.
- Turn on Vision Pro and follow the on-screen setup prompts while connected to Wi-Fi.
- If you have a compatible iPhone or iPad and want to use Quick Start, bring it nearby and follow the prompts.
- If you do not have one, double-click the Digital Crown when prompted, choose manual setup, and sign in to your Apple Account on Vision Pro.
The iPhone or iPad is a setup convenience, not a prerequisite for getting started.
Is Vision Pro a standalone headset?
Yes. Vision Pro runs visionOS and supports apps and input directly on the headset. Apple lists Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, eye, hand, and voice input, and an external battery in its technical specifications. The headset can also be used while its battery is charging.

Apple estimates up to 2.5 hours of general use or up to 3 hours of video playback per charge. These are Apple’s product estimates, not a guarantee of runtime for every app or use pattern.
Which Vision Pro features do need an iPhone?
Some features that connect Vision Pro with an iPhone are specifically dependent on having one; they are not required for ordinary headset use.

Relaying cellular calls
Using Vision Pro for calls relayed from an iPhone depends on the iPhone and the relevant software and network requirements. Without an iPhone, you cannot use that iPhone-dependent call-relay feature; that does not prevent using Vision Pro’s other apps and functions.
Unlocking an iPhone while wearing Vision Pro
Apple also offers an iPhone-unlocking feature when Vision Pro is being worn, subject to its stated device, software, and network requirements. It is a continuity convenience for people who own both devices, not a requirement to unlock or use the headset itself.

Can an Android user use Apple Vision Pro?
An Android phone is not needed for Vision Pro setup, and it does not replace an iPhone for Apple features that explicitly rely on one, such as iPhone call relay or unlocking an iPhone. You can use Vision Pro without owning an iPhone by choosing manual setup and signing in on the headset. Apple’s setup instructions establish this path; they do not establish that every Apple ecosystem feature will be available to Android users.
Can someone use Vision Pro as a guest without an iPhone?
Yes. A nearby iPhone or iPad can make authorizing Guest User easier, but it is optional. Apple’s Guest User instructions say that a guest can double-click the Digital Crown and continue with setup on the headset if they do not have either device nearby.

Will you need extra accessories?
An iPhone is not an accessory requirement, but fit and vision correction may affect what else you need. Apple recommends a personal Light Seal and head band for fit, and ZEISS Optical Inserts for people who need prescription correction.
