Choose DoDonPachi Resurrection Reignite if you want CAVE’s current Steam release, stage-by-stage training and a multiplayer mode for up to 10 players. Choose DoDonPachi DaiOuJou—also known in English as Blissful Death—if you want the distinct 2002 arcade game and its M2 ShotTriggers edition for Nintendo Switch or PS4. They are different games, not competing editions of the same one, so platform and preferred play style are the useful deciding factors.
What is the difference between the two games?
DaiOuJou is the 2002 CAVE arcade shooter also titled DoDonPachi Blissful Death in CAVE’s English catalog. M2’s Re:Incarnation is a console release of that game for Nintendo Switch and PS4, released on 7 December 2023. CAVE’s arcade listing says repairs to the original arcade board ended because parts are difficult to obtain; that does not mean the separate M2 console edition is unavailable.

Resurrection Reignite is a refreshed release of the later DoDonPachi Resurrection, not another name for DaiOuJou. CAVE lists Reignite for Steam, with a release date of 26 August 2026 (27 August at 10:00 JST). The older Resurrection is itself described by CAVE as a sequel to Blissful Death.
Which one fits what you want to play?
| Your priority | Better fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A current Steam release with practice tools | Resurrection Reignite | CAVE lists it on Steam. Its version 1.1.0 update added Training Mode for every stage, including AREA6. |
| The classic arcade game on a console | DaiOuJou / Blissful Death: Re:Incarnation | M2’s edition is documented for Nintendo Switch and PS4. |
| A multiplayer variation | Resurrection Reignite | Its Shooting Royale mode is described as supporting up to 10 players. |
| Hyper, chaining and shot-versus-laser strategy | DaiOuJou | Those systems are central to M2’s description of the arcade game. |
| New Stage 6 content | Resurrection Reignite | CAVE lists a new Stage 6 among the release’s features. |
What makes DaiOuJou distinct?
DaiOuJou builds its score-attack identity around the Hyper system, chaining enemies, and choosing between shot and laser approaches. M2 also highlights dense bullet patterns and a true boss reached in the second loop. Those systems reward learning routes and managing offense as well as dodging; this is not simply the older version of Resurrection Reignite.

For a console player specifically seeking the 2002 game, look for M2 ShotTriggers’ DoDonPachi DaiOuJou Blissful Death Re:Incarnation for Switch or PS4. Check territory, language, console compatibility and the precise package before buying a physical copy; current stock is not established here.
What does Reignite add for practice and multiplayer?
CAVE’s 2 October 2026 update notice says version 1.1.0 added Training Mode for all stages, including AREA6. That makes deliberate stage practice a documented feature of the current release, rather than a promised addition.
Rank #2
The Steam listing also describes Shooting Royale as a competitive mode for up to 10 players, alongside assist features, new characters (called “Daughters” in the English listing) and new music. CAVE said an AREA6 addition to Royale was planned for November and Black Label for winter; those were roadmap plans in the 2 October notice, not features confirmed as delivered. Check the latest game update before relying on either.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteIs one game harder?
There is no supported apples-to-apples difficulty ranking here. CAVE characterizes the broader series as high-difficulty vertical scrolling shooters built around dodging dense enemy fire, and M2 describes DaiOuJou’s demanding systems and patterns. That establishes the kind of challenge involved, not that one game is objectively harder than the other. Choose based on the mechanics and edition you want rather than an unverified ranking.
Quick Recap
Check the edition and price before buying
- For Reignite: CAVE’s supported platform listing is Steam. Its launch regular price was ¥3,150 / US$24.99 in 2026; that is launch pricing, not a current quote, so check the Steam page for today’s price and any discount.
- For DaiOuJou: M2 documents the Re:Incarnation release for Nintendo Switch and PS4. Do not assume that this console edition has an official current Steam release.
- If you already own Resurrection: CAVE’s older Steam listing describes that game as a sequel to Blissful Death and lists eight modes, including Novice, Black Label and Arrange variants, plus local two-player co-op. Those are details of the older Resurrection listing, not a reason to confuse it with either DaiOuJou or Reignite.
