No. You can follow an individual Uncharted game without playing the others first: PlayStation describes each as a standalone adventure with its own narrative. Playing in order adds context about recurring characters and relationships, so it is the better choice if you want Nathan Drake’s story to build across the series.
Can you start with any Uncharted game?
Yes. PlayStation’s official FAQ says that although the series has continuity, each game is intended to stand on its own and can be enjoyed without playing the others. You can choose the title that interests you without needing a prerequisite to understand its central adventure.

That does not mean the games are unrelated. Characters return, and earlier entries provide background on Nathan Drake and people such as Chloe Frazer. That history enriches the experience, but PlayStation does not describe it as necessary for understanding each game’s individual story.

The first three single-player campaigns are collected in UNCHARTED: The Nathan Drake Collection. PlayStation presents Uncharted 4 as Nathan’s later adventure, making it the natural next game if you want the character and relationship context to accumulate.
Where does The Lost Legacy fit?
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is a standalone story starring Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross. It draws on characters and history from earlier games, so playing it after Uncharted 4 is the continuity-first choice. PlayStation does not quantify how much context is lost by skipping a game. The practical difference is whether you want the extra background, not whether you will be able to understand the standalone plot.
