What “playing a PS5 game on PC” actually means
A PS5 game is not a Windows executable. The PS5 version runs on Sony’s console operating system and hardware; a PC player needs a separate Windows build made or licensed by the publisher. Look for an official PC edition in PlayStation’s PC catalogue or in the game’s Steam or Epic Games Store listing. A listing on one of those stores is evidence that a PC version exists; owning the console disc or digital licence is not.

Three checks to make before you buy
- Confirm a PC release. Search for the exact title in PlayStation’s PC catalogue and verify that the store listing is for Windows. A PS5-only listing will not install natively on a PC.
- Check the entitlement. PlayStation’s PC FAQ says the PC version is a separate purchase. Your PS5 purchase generally does not unlock the Steam or Epic version. A free-to-play title can still require its own PC download and account setup, while expansions, deluxe editions and platform licences may remain separate.
- Read the title-specific progression policy. Cross-play answers whether PS5 and PC players can join the same game. Cross-save, cross-progression or cross-platform save answers whether characters and progress follow you. Never infer one from the other.

How the supported games work
Helldivers 2: shared missions, unconfirmed shared progress
Helldivers 2 supports cross-play between PS5 and PC. Arrowhead has stated that teammates on PC can play with people on PS5 and vice versa, and its support information allows up to four online players in a group. That makes it suitable for a mixed-platform squad.
The cited PlayStation and Arrowhead pages do not establish a PS5-PC cross-save system. Do not assume that your unlocks, samples, warbond progress or other progression will appear on both platforms. Check the game’s current support page immediately before switching platforms because progression rules can change through updates.
Destiny 2: Bungie Cross Save and Cross Play are separate
Destiny 2 supports cross-play, so players on supported console and PC platforms can play together. Bungie’s Cross Save guide describes a different process: you choose one Destiny 2 player account and its active characters, then make that set available through linked PlayStation, Steam, Microsoft Store, Epic Games Store, Xbox and other supported accounts.

Before linking accounts, read the current restrictions around expansions, platform-specific purchases and account changes; shared characters do not necessarily make every licence or add-on portable.
Warframe: cross-platform save and play
Warframe documents both cross-platform save and cross-platform play. Its support covers PC and PS4/PS5 saves and allows play across PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch and mobile. When configured correctly, your account progression can follow you between PS5 and PC instead of starting from zero.
Because account linking and migration rules can be revised, use the current Warframe account instructions for the exact order of linking. Confirm that you are signing into the same publisher account on both devices before launching the game and creating a second, unlinked profile.
PlayStation Studios ports: PC edition, separate save
PlayStation’s PC catalogue includes Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Days Gone. These are genuine Windows releases, not ways to execute the PS5 files on a computer.

Cross-play versus cross-save: the distinction that prevents expensive mistakes
Cross-play
Cross-play is a multiplayer feature. It answers: “Can my PS5 and PC friends enter the same match, mission or session?” It normally requires an online account, an internet connection and compatible game versions. A game can offer cross-play while keeping each platform’s campaign or character data separate.

It answers: “If I stop playing on PS5, can I continue on PC with the same characters, items and progress?” Some games synchronize through a publisher account; others do not support transfers at all. Why the labels are not interchangeable
Destiny 2’s documentation explicitly treats Cross Save and Cross Play as separate systems. Helldivers 2 demonstrates the other common case: cross-play is documented, while the cited pages do not confirm cross-save. Conversely, a game could synchronize a solo account without allowing players on different platforms to join the same session.
Practical setup: moving from PS5 to PC
- Verify the Windows edition and store. Use the publisher’s official listing, then check operating-system requirements, release region and the edition you intend to buy.
- Install the PC build. Download it from the listed PC storefront. Installing a launcher or buying a key does not import your PS5 ownership automatically.
- Use the same account identity. Sign in with the publisher or service account used on PS5. Creating a new account is a common reason for an apparently missing save.
- Enable the game’s account-linking or Cross Save feature. Follow the title’s current support instructions. For Destiny 2, select the active account and characters before confirming. For Warframe, complete the documented cross-platform account process.
- Test before making purchases. Launch on PC, check that characters and progression are present, then return to PS5. Confirm that expansions and purchased items are available on the platform where you intend to use them.
- Keep the accounts linked. Unlinking, switching the active account or creating a second profile can trigger waiting periods or leave progress on the wrong identity. Save screenshots of account names and settings before changing them.
Controls and PC accessories
PlayStation’s PC FAQ lists mouse and keyboard, DualShock 4, DualSense and other controllers as supported input options for PlayStation Studios PC games. A DualSense Wireless Controller is an optional choice if you want PS5-style controls on a computer; mouse and keyboard remain useful for games that support precise aiming or extensive hotkeys.
Controller features can depend on the game, connection method and PC support. Pair or connect the controller according to the game’s current PC instructions, and check whether advanced haptics or adaptive triggers require a wired connection or a particular driver.
Common pitfalls and how to avoid them
- Assuming the PS5 disc installs on PC: it does not. Buy or download the official Windows edition.
- Expecting a console purchase to unlock Steam or Epic: PlayStation describes PC editions as separate purchases.
- Confusing cloud saves with cross-save: a cloud backup on one platform is not proof that the PC build can read it.
