Do Pebbles Respawn in Over the Hill? Spawn Rules and Reset Times Explained

Yes, you can encounter new Pebble-producing meteorites in Over the Hill, but there is no confirmed personal cooldown for an individual Pebble pickup or the exact rock you just extracted. Current game-data references describe a replacement meteorite being selected from a free spawn point and falling roughly 1–5 minutes later. The system keeps about 2–3 meteorites active in an area, so meteorite farming is repeatable without proving that every node returns on a fixed timer.

The practical rule is to treat 1–5 minutes as a replacement-event window, not a promise that the same rock will reappear immediately, at the same coordinates, or in every session.

Pebbles and meteorites are different parts of the system

Pebbles are the reward currency. Meteorites are the world objects you extract to receive Pebbles. That distinction matters because players often ask whether “a Pebble respawns” when the repeatable event is actually the appearance of another meteorite.

When a meteorite is available, you find it in the area, assemble the required crew for its size, and extract it for the listed Pebble reward. Removing that meteorite can trigger a replacement selection. The replacement is a new world event; it is not evidence that the original object, its exact model, or an individual Pebble pickup has a separate reset clock.

How meteorite replacement works

Areas keep a small number of active meteorites

The current meteorite reference describes 2–3 active meteorites per area. Those objects are drawn from a larger set of possible locations rather than being permanently attached to one visible map marker. A marker therefore means “possible spawn point,” not “a meteorite is guaranteed here right now.”

Existing meteorites appear when the area loads

Meteorites that have already been selected for an area are on the ground when that area loads. If you enter an area and see fewer rocks than expected, one may have been extracted already, may be waiting for its replacement event, or may have been selected at another point in the area.

Extraction selects a free point for the replacement

After a meteorite is removed, the replacement process chooses a random free spawn point. The current reference describes the replacement as falling 1–5 minutes later. “Free” means the point is available to the spawn system at that moment; it does not mean the replacement must use the coordinate of the rock you extracted.

The timer starts a replacement event, not a guaranteed pickup

The 1–5 minute figure applies to the replacement meteorite event described by the game-data reference. It does not establish a fixed timer for the same individual rock, a universal Pebble reset, or an assured spawn visible to every player after exactly five minutes. A replacement can also be out of sight or at a different point in the area.

Is there a fixed Pebble or rock respawn timer?

No fixed personal timer has been established. A community database records reports of rocks reappearing between sessions, but explicitly says those reports do not establish a fixed respawn timer or a reliable hourly income rate. That is why guides should say “replacement meteorites can appear after roughly 1–5 minutes” rather than “every rock respawns every five minutes.”

An older pre-release guide is more cautious still: it labels meteorite respawn status, timing, and locations as unconfirmed. That warning remains useful when comparing versions or reading old posts. Current references support repeatable replacement events, while the older material shows why an exact, player-specific reset promise would be too strong.

What the evidence supports

  • New meteorites can appear after an extracted one is removed.
  • The current reference gives a replacement window of about 1–5 minutes.
  • The replacement is chosen from random free spawn points.
  • Reports of rocks returning between sessions are plausible but do not define a universal cooldown.

What the evidence does not support

  • That the exact meteorite you mined will return at its original location.
  • That every Pebble pickup has an independent, visible reset timer.
  • That waiting five minutes always forces a meteorite to appear beside you.
  • That a guaranteed Pebbles-per-hour figure can be calculated from the listed rewards.

Spawn points, maps and patch changes

The meteorite reference lists 208 possible spawn points across five areas. Because only 2–3 meteorites are active in an area at a time, most listed points will be empty during any one visit. Use coordinates as a search route, not as proof that a rock is currently present.

A map reference notes that patch 26.10.16_57fb763 moved meteorite positions and warns that community coordinates may not have been checked against the revised locations. If a marker from an older guide leads to an empty clearing, the marker may be stale rather than evidence that meteorites have stopped spawning.

How to read an empty marker

  1. Check whether the map or guide identifies the game patch it covers.
  2. Search nearby points in the same area instead of waiting at one coordinate.
  3. Confirm that another player has not already extracted the active meteorite.
  4. Leave and reload the area if you are testing whether a between-session report applies to your version.

Do not publish or rely on a single coordinate as a guaranteed spawn. The random free-point selection and patch movement make route-based searching more dependable than one-marker camping.

Meteorite sizes and Pebble rewards

The current meteorite table lists rewards from 15 to 80 Pebbles. Larger rocks require more players, so the most useful comparison is not reward alone: include crew availability, travel time, extraction effort and whether a replacement is available in the area.

Meteorite size Listed reward Crew implication How to interpret the figure
Very small 15 Pebbles Smaller rocks require fewer players than larger ones. Listed rock reward in the current meteorite reference.
Small 20 Pebbles More accessible than the largest sizes. Listed rock reward; multiplayer split behavior is not firmly established.
Medium 30 Pebbles Plan for a larger crew than a very small or small rock. Listed rock reward, not a guaranteed personal payout in every multiplayer setup.
Large 40 Pebbles Requires more players than smaller sizes. Use as a per-extraction comparison, not an hourly promise.
Very large 50 Pebbles Requires a larger crew and may take more coordination. Listed reward from the meteorite table.
Huge 60 Pebbles Large-group extraction is expected. Listed reward; actual multiplayer distribution is not firmly established.
Very huge 80 Pebbles Highest crew demand among the listed sizes. Listed rock reward, not a guaranteed Pebbles-per-hour result.

The table values are rock rewards. The database does not firmly establish how rewards are split in multiplayer, and it does not establish an hourly income rate. Treat 15–80 as the value attached to the rock size, then verify how your session distributes the reward before planning a farming target.

A practical Pebble-farming loop

If your goal is to collect more Pebbles, use the replacement system as a flexible loop rather than a stopwatch challenge.

1. Choose an area and check its active rocks

Start in one area and inspect the known spawn-point route. Since only 2–3 meteorites are active, scan several possible points before concluding that the area is empty. Bring enough players for the size you intend to extract.

2. Extract the available meteorite

Complete the extraction and note the rock size and the Pebble reward shown for it. Do not assume that the next object will be the same size or worth the same amount; replacement selection concerns the meteorite event and location, not a guaranteed duplicate.

3. Search other free points while the replacement window runs

After removal, continue checking the area rather than standing on the cleared ground. The reference places the replacement fall at roughly 1–5 minutes, and the new point is random. A short route through nearby markers makes better use of that window than camping one coordinate.

4. Re-scan after five minutes, then change sessions if necessary

Once the replacement window has passed, perform another full scan. If no rock appears, do not interpret that as proof of a longer fixed cooldown: the point may be elsewhere, the map may be outdated, another player may have extracted it, or your version may differ. A session change is a reasonable test because community reports specifically describe rocks reappearing between sessions, but those reports are not a guaranteed rule.

5. Record your own route and version

For repeat runs, write down the area, patch number, approximate extraction time, rock size and observed replacement location. This creates a useful route for your group without turning a local observation into a universal timer. Recheck the route after patches that move meteorite positions.

Why a meteorite may not appear

You are checking a possible point, not an active one

With 208 possible points and only 2–3 active meteorites per area, an empty marker is normal. Continue through the area’s other points.

The replacement is still within its window

A replacement can take up to the stated 1–5-minute window. Use that period to search elsewhere rather than repeatedly reopening the same spot.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The point moved in your patch

Patch 26.10.16_57fb763 changed meteorite positions, and community coordinates may not have been verified afterward. Check the date or patch attached to the map you are using.

Another player extracted the object

In a shared area, the active rock may have been removed before you arrived. A cleared point does not show who extracted it or when the next replacement will be visible to you.

You are expecting a duplicate reward

The replacement event does not promise the same size. If a new rock appears, its listed reward can differ from the previous extraction, and the required crew can change with it.

Can waiting alone farm Pebbles?

Waiting can be part of a farming route, but waiting by itself is not a guaranteed method. The current mechanic supports replacement meteorites after roughly 1–5 minutes, while the location is random and the exact personal reset behavior remains unconfirmed. Move through the area, check the available points, and use a session change as an experiment rather than a guaranteed reset button.

For planning, compare each extraction by its listed reward, the number of players you can assemble, and the time needed to locate and mine it. Do not advertise or rely on a fixed hourly total: the available sources explicitly leave multiplayer split behavior and hourly income unresolved.

The reliable answer in one sentence

Meteorites that produce Pebbles can be replaced and may reappear after an extraction—current references give a roughly 1–5-minute replacement window with 2–3 active rocks per area—but no source confirms that the same rock or Pebble pickup respawns on a fixed timer.
