For pensioners whose Pension Sanctioning Authority (PSA) is enrolled in Jeevan Pramaan and who can complete an available authentication method, a Digital Life Certificate (DLC) is often more convenient: it is sent electronically to the Pension Disbursing Agency (PDA), so the pensioner does not need to hand in that certificate. The conventional physical route remains available, and Jeevan Pramaan is not compulsory. Check your pension authority’s current rules and your eligibility before choosing.
What is the difference?
Digital Life Certificate (Jeevan Pramaan)
Jeevan Pramaan is an Aadhaar-based, biometric-enabled service. After successful authentication, it generates a certificate and unique Pramaan ID, then makes the certificate electronically available to the PDA. You can download a copy to check its status, but you do not need to physically submit the DLC to a bank, post office or other PDA. A generated certificate is not the same as approval: the pension authority can reject it if details are incorrect.

Conventional physical life certificate
This is the established non-Jeevan-Pramaan route. The form, certification requirements and delivery process depend on the pension scheme and PDA; there is no single procedure that applies to every pensioner. Ask the authority that disburses your pension for its current instructions.

First check whether you are eligible for Jeevan Pramaan
The PSA must be onboarded on Jeevan Pramaan. The official Jeevan Pramaan FAQ says re-employed or remarried pensioners are not eligible for the service and must submit a life certificate conventionally. The FAQ also says the DLC is an add-on to existing submission methods, not a compulsory replacement.
#1 Best Overall
- Target Applications - Desktop PC security, Mobile PCs, Custom applications
- Indoor, home and office use
- Blue LED - soft, cool blue glow fits into any environment; doesn't compete in low light environments
- Small form factor - conserves valuable desk space
- Rugged construction - high-quality metal casing weighted to resist unintentional movement
Before starting, check the current onboarded authority list and ensure your Aadhaar information matches the pension records. IPPB lists Aadhaar, a mobile number, Aadhaar registration with the PDA, and pension information such as the PPO and account number among its prerequisites. Incorrect pension details can lead to rejection, so confirm them with your PDA if anything is uncertain.
Ways to submit a digital certificate
Use face authentication on a supported phone
The Jeevan Pramaan face-authentication app uses the phone’s camera and does not require a separate fingerprint or iris device. The official application download page lists Android 10 or later and iOS 14 or later for the respective apps. Face-app use is limited to India, and requirements can change; check the official page before installing.

Use a fingerprint or iris device
A biometric-device route may suit someone using a supported fingerprint or iris scanner. The official download page describes RD service for biometric devices and requires an external fingerprint or iris scanner for Windows. Device and service compatibility matter, so check the current official requirements rather than buying a scanner on the assumption that any model will work.
Get help at a centre or request a doorstep visit
The Jeevan Pramaan FAQ lists Citizen Service Centres, PDA offices, banks, post offices and other listed centres as places where a DLC can be obtained with assistance. Where available, IPPB also offers a postman or Grameen Dak Sevak visit. Its service page says pensioners whose agency is live for DLC can contact a post office to request a visit, and that the service is available to IPPB and non-IPPB customers. IPPB currently lists a charge of ₹70, inclusive of GST/cess, per successful DLC, with no additional doorstep charge; confirm availability and the fee when arranging the visit.

Compare the options
| Decision | Digital Jeevan Pramaan | Conventional physical certificate |
|---|---|---|
| Eligibility | PSA must be onboarded; the official FAQ excludes re-employed and remarried pensioners. | Existing route remains available; check the pension scheme’s procedure with its PDA. |
| Travel and assistance | May be generated using supported phone authentication, at a listed centre or PDA office, or through IPPB doorstep service where available. | Follow the scheme/PDA process; whether it requires a visit or an authorized issuer depends on the authority. |
| Technology | Uses Aadhaar-based authentication. Phone face authentication is one option; fingerprint or iris authentication may require supported equipment and RD service. | Does not depend on the Jeevan Pramaan app; certification steps depend on the authority. |
| Delivery and status | Made electronically available to the PDA. A Pramaan ID does not guarantee approval. | Follow the PDA’s submission instructions and keep proof of submission if provided. A universal tracking system is not established. |
| Cost | Self-generation cost: not stated in the official material. IPPB lists ₹70, inclusive of GST/cess, per successful assisted/doorstep DLC; confirm the current fee. | General charge: not stated in the official material; check with the issuing or disbursing authority. |
| Validity | Set by the PSA; obtain a new certificate when the applicable validity period ends. | Confirm deadline and validity rules with the authority. |
How to choose
- Choose Jeevan Pramaan if your PSA is onboarded, you are eligible, and you can use a supported phone, biometric device or assisted service. It can avoid a physical hand-in of the DLC.
- Use the conventional route if you are ineligible, cannot complete an available digital method, or your authority instructs you to use it.
- If travel or device access is difficult, ask a nearby post office or listed centre about assisted generation and whether a doorstep visit is available.
- If you are unsure about eligibility or validity, confirm both with your PSA or PDA rather than assuming the same rules apply to every pension.
Approval and validity are still governed by the authority
The Jeevan Pramaan FAQ says, “The Pramaan ID/Jeevan Pramaan is not valid for life.” The validity period follows the rules specified by the PSA; there is no universal one-year period or deadline established for every pensioner. Submit a new certificate when required by your authority, and verify that the DLC has been accepted rather than treating generation as confirmation of approval.
