Crunchyroll president Rahul Purini said on May 22, 2026 that the second film is actively in production and that Infinity Castle is a three-film conclusion, but he did not provide a date. The first movie follows the Hashira Training Arc directly: Muzan traps Tanjiro and the Demon Slayer Corps inside his shifting fortress, beginning the final battle.
To prepare, remember five things: Tanjiro is still seeking a way to restore Nezuko; Nezuko remains a demon but retains her humanity and has become crucial to Muzan’s plan; the Hashira have trained for a last stand; Kagaya Ubuyashiki sacrificed himself to confront Muzan; and the Corps has been scattered into separate battles throughout the Infinity Castle.

What is the current status of Infinity Castle 2?
The next story chapter is the second movie in the Infinity Castle trilogy. The trilogy is intended to finish the Demon Slayer story, with the first film already beginning the final arc and two films still to come. In a May 22, 2026 statement reported by GamesRadar+, Crunchyroll CEO and president Rahul Purini said the second film was “actively in production” and that the studio wanted to release it as quickly as possible, while stressing that there was no date to announce.
That means any supposed premiere day, theatrical window or streaming date circulating without a new official announcement is speculation. The first Infinity Castle film is the immediate continuation of the fourth television season, Hashira Training; it is not a separate side story or a remake of an earlier arc.

The premise to keep in mind
Muzan Kibutsuji is the first demon and the source of the demon blood that creates others. He retreats into the center of the Infinity Castle, a seemingly endless dimensional fortress whose rooms and corridors continually shift. The fortress is both his refuge and a trap: Tanjiro and the Demon Slayer Corps are drawn inside, separated from one another and forced into individual or paired fights.
Muzan’s objective is larger than simply killing Tanjiro. Demons normally cannot survive sunlight, and Muzan wants a demon capable of overcoming that weakness. Nezuko’s unusual condition makes her central to that plan. The Corps must therefore survive the castle, protect Nezuko and prevent Muzan from turning her resistance into the key to his own invulnerability.
Tanjiro and Nezuko’s starting point
Tanjiro Kamado begins the story as a charcoal seller who returns home to find his family slaughtered. Nezuko is the sole survivor, but she has been transformed into a demon. Instead of accepting the normal demon appetite, she repeatedly resists harming humans and helps Tanjiro fight.

That mission remains unresolved when Infinity Castle begins. Nezuko has not simply become human again in the setup for the final arc; she is still a demon whose unusual behavior and relationship to sunlight have made her valuable—and dangerous—in Muzan’s eyes.
How the Demon Slayer world works
The Corps and the Hashira
The Demon Slayer Corps is the organized force that hunts demons. Its highest-ranking swordsmen are the Hashira, each an exceptional fighter responsible for a particular combat specialty and for training other slayers. Giyu Tomioka is the Water Hashira who first recognizes Tanjiro’s determination and directs him toward the Corps.

Tanjiro’s regular companions are Zenitsu Agatsuma and Inosuke Hashibira. Their personalities and fighting methods differ sharply, but the major battles have shown that survival depends on cooperation between ordinary slayers, Hashira and allies such as Nezuko.
Demons’ strengths and weaknesses
Demons possess enhanced strength, speed and healing. Most feed on humans, which is why the Corps treats them as an existential threat even when an individual demon displays traces of a former personality. Sunlight and wisteria are major vulnerabilities. Demon Slayers generally finish a fight by decapitating a demon with a Nichirin sword.

Muzan and the Twelve Kizuki
The Twelve Kizuki are Muzan’s strongest servants. The story has already confirmed the defeats of Rui, Enmu, Gyutaro, Daki, Gyokko and Hantengu. Those victories matter because Upper Rank demons are not ordinary opponents: defeating them requires coordinated, Hashira-level combat and often comes at a severe personal cost.
The material available for this recap does not provide a complete name-by-name list of every Kizuki still alive. The safe takeaway is that Muzan’s remaining elite servants are the principal threats inside Infinity Castle; an unlisted demon should not be assumed dead merely because another rank has fallen.
Arc-by-arc recap
1. Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc
After Nezuko’s transformation, Tanjiro trains, passes the Corps’ selection and begins traveling with her. He learns to fight demons while searching for a cure and tracing the network connected to Muzan. Giyu’s intervention is decisive: instead of killing Nezuko immediately, he sends Tanjiro toward the training and contacts that can give both siblings a chance.

This arc establishes the story’s central moral question. Nezuko is a demon by biology, yet she refuses the expected appetite and repeatedly protects humans. Tanjiro’s goal is therefore not only revenge; it is proof that compassion and human choice may survive demonic transformation.

2. Mugen Train Arc
Tanjiro, Nezuko, Zenitsu and Inosuke join Flame Hashira Kyojuro Rengoku aboard the Mugen Train. They face Enmu, a demon whose attack turns the passengers and the slayers’ dreams into weapons. The group succeeds, but the aftermath demonstrates the scale of the Upper Ranks and the price of challenging them: Rengoku dies after the battle.
Rengoku’s death changes the Corps’ understanding of what the final conflict will demand. Victory is possible, but even a Hashira can be lost while protecting civilians and younger fighters. The official franchise site reports that the Mugen Train film drew 41.35 million worldwide attendees and 51.7 billion yen, figures that underline how important this turning point became to the wider series.
3. Entertainment District Arc
Tanjiro’s group works with Sound Hashira Tengen Uzui in the Entertainment District. The enemy is Upper Rank Six, represented by the siblings Gyutaro and Daki. Their shared life and fighting ability make the battle unusually difficult: damaging one sibling is not enough, and the heroes must coordinate under extreme pressure.
The defeat of Gyutaro and Daki confirms that Upper Rank demons can be beaten, but only through teamwork, sacrifice and Hashira-level support. Tengen survives but is forced to leave active Hashira duty, another reminder that a victory can permanently reduce the Corps’ strength.

4. Swordsmith Village Arc
At the Swordsmith Village, Tanjiro and his allies confront Upper Rank demons Gyokko and Hantengu. The battles force the Corps to defend both its fighters and the people who make Nichirin swords. The arc also makes Nezuko’s importance to Muzan’s strategy impossible to ignore: the search for a demon that can overcome sunlight is no longer an abstract objective.
Gyokko and Hantengu are among the Kizuki defeats that lead into the final confrontation. Tanjiro leaves the arc stronger, but the enemy’s interest in Nezuko means that protecting his sister now has consequences for every surviving demon slayer.
5. Hashira Training Arc
After the Swordsmith Village battle, the Corps begins intensive preparation under the Hashira. The training is designed to raise the baseline ability of every slayer before the confrontation with Muzan. It is not a calm interlude: the Corps knows that another direct encounter will involve the strongest demons and that inexperienced fighters will not survive without preparation.
The fourth season ends with this mobilization. Infinity Castle starts immediately afterward, so the relevant question is not whether Tanjiro has finished his journey, but whether the Corps’ preparation is enough to keep its members alive once Muzan controls the battlefield.
How Infinity Castle begins
Kagaya Ubuyashiki’s sacrifice
Kagaya Ubuyashiki, the Corps’ leader, sacrifices himself during the confrontation with Muzan. His decision creates the opening for the final operation, but it also removes the person who held the organization together. The Hashira continue the mission in his place.

The trap and the separation
Muzan’s trap pulls Tanjiro and the Corps into the Infinity Castle. Because the fortress changes shape, the fighters cannot rely on a stable map or a single front. They are separated into pairings and solo battles, turning the Corps’ usual advantage—coordinated support—into a logistical problem.
Coordination from outside
Kiriya, Kuina and Kanata Ubuyashiki coordinate from outside the fortress. With Kasugai crows and information about the castle’s changes, they try to track the scattered fighters and map a structure that does not stay still. Their role explains how the slayers can receive intelligence even when the battlefield divides them.

| Person or group | Status at the Infinity Castle setup | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Tanjiro | Alive and committed to stopping Muzan while seeking Nezuko’s cure. | He enters the final battle with personal and Corps-wide stakes. |
| Nezuko | Still a demon; she retains her resistance to the normal demon appetite. | Her unusual condition is tied to Muzan’s search for a sunlight-resistant demon. |
| Zenitsu and Inosuke | Tanjiro’s surviving core allies entering the final conflict. | The castle’s separation may force them into different fights rather than one team battle. |
| Giyu Tomioka and the other Hashira | Continuing the mission after Hashira Training and Kagaya’s sacrifice. | The Corps’ strongest swordsmen must fight without a single, stable battlefield. |
| Kiriya, Kuina and Kanata Ubuyashiki | Outside the castle, coordinating reports and tracking changes. | They provide the information network needed to respond to a shifting fortress. |
| Muzan | Inside the fortress, retreating toward its center to heal and control the engagement. | He has chosen the terrain and can separate the slayers. |
What to watch or read for a catch-up
| Catch-up route | Time required | Canon coverage | Spoiler level | Availability considerations |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Watch the complete anime | Longest | Full animated coverage through Hashira Training, including performances, music and fight choreography. | Safe if you stop before Infinity Castle; later material may spoil the film trilogy. | Check the current catalog in your country on legal services such as Netflix or Crunchyroll; licensing changes by territory. |
| Watch arc summaries or recap videos | Shorter | Key plot points, but usually fewer character scenes and less training context. | Choose a version labeled spoiler-free if you have not seen Infinity Castle. | Availability and accuracy vary; confirm that the summary covers all five pre-Infinity Castle arcs. |
| Read the manga from the beginning | Longest reading route | Complete source continuity across all 23 volumes. | Reading beyond the film’s stopping point can reveal later events. | Print and digital editions differ by country, translation and format. |
| Read only the pre-Infinity Castle material | Moderate | Preserves manga details that an anime recap may omit while avoiding later film spoilers. | Stop at the end of Hashira Training or the equivalent manga chapter. | Check volume completeness, translation and local stock before buying. |
If you choose the anime route, watch the arcs in release order: Unwavering Resolve, Mugen Train, Entertainment District, Swordsmith Village and Hashira Training. The first Infinity Castle film follows that sequence directly, so skipping an arc can leave a missing relationship, death or demon ability unexplained.

How much of the story is left?
Infinity Castle is not the conclusion of a single fight. It is the opening movement of a three-film final arc. The first movie establishes the fortress, the separation of the Corps and the urgency of Muzan’s plan. The second film will continue that operation, but its release timing remains unknown in the latest public statement available for this recap.
The franchise’s scale explains why the release is being handled as a major theatrical event. The manga, serialized from February 2016 to May 2020, spans 23 volumes and has published more than 150 million units according to the official franchise page. Associated Press, citing Comscore, reported that the first Infinity Castle film opened to an estimated $70 million in North America, with a $132.1 million worldwide anime-opening weekend and $177.8 million worldwide total in its opening-weekend report. Those are reported box-office figures, not a promise about the schedule or performance of the second film.
