Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The Dell Precision 7670 is a heavy, configurable 16-inch mobile workstation—not one fixed-performance laptop. In Notebookcheck’s tested configuration, it paired a Core i7-12850HX with a 95 W RTX A2000 and a 3840 × 2400 OLED touchscreen. That review describes that particular machine, not every 7670: GPU, chassis, display, memory type, battery, and power adapter vary by configuration.
What kind of workstation is the Precision 7670?
The 7670 is a 2022-era 16-inch workstation platform for professional workloads that can benefit from high-core-count HX processors, professional RTX graphics, larger memory configurations, or enterprise security and management options. Dell’s range runs from integrated graphics to an RTX A5500, so the model name alone says little about a machine’s performance. Dell’s Precision 7670 specifications are the starting point for identifying a configuration.

It is most compelling when a buyer needs a particular professional GPU, software certification, or business feature and can verify that the exact unit has it. For office work or lighter creative tasks, its weight and high-power hardware may be unnecessary; compare the complete machine and accessories with a lighter or newer alternative.
Which configurations are available?
Dell lists three 12th-generation HX processor options and graphics ranging from Intel integrated graphics to the RTX A5500. The thin and performance chassis are not interchangeable labels: Dell associates the thin chassis with the A1000 and A2000 options, and the performance chassis with the A3000 and higher options.

| Component | Options listed by Dell | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | Core i5-12600HX, Core i7-12850HX, or Core i9-12950HX; the platform includes options up to 16 cores. | Check the actual CPU rather than assuming all 7670s have the same performance. |
| Graphics | Intel UHD integrated graphics; RTX A1000 (4 GB), A2000 (8 GB), A3000 (12 GB), A4500 (16 GB), or A5500 (16 GB). Dell associates A1000/A2000 with thin chassis and A3000-and-up with performance chassis. | Confirm both GPU and chassis. A benchmark from an A5500 performance model does not predict an A2000 thin model’s graphics results. |
| Memory | DDR5 CAMM and SODIMM configurations; up to 128 GB CAMM is listed. Frequency and ECC support vary by configuration. | Identify the installed memory format and check the service documentation for the unit before buying an upgrade. |
| Storage | M.2 2230 256 GB, or M.2 2280 512 GB, 1 TB, 2 TB, or 4 TB PCIe NVMe options; some self-encrypting drive options are listed. | Check installed drives, available slots, and any RAID configuration before replacing or adding an SSD. |
| Display | 16-inch 1920 × 1200, 60 Hz anti-glare panels in 250-nit/45% NTSC and 500-nit/99% DCI-P3 variants; or 3840 × 2400, 60 Hz OLED touch, rated 400 nits and 100% DCI-P3. | Panel resolution, brightness, gamut, and touch support differ substantially. Verify the panel on the unit being sold. |
| Battery and weight | 83 Wh or 93 Wh batteries. Dell’s starting weights are 2.60 kg for thin and 2.67 kg for performance chassis. | Starting weight is not the weight of every configuration or the full travel kit. |
| Power adapter | 180 W or 240 W options. | Match the adapter to the machine’s configuration; do not assume either wattage is universally suitable. |
Connectivity listed by Dell includes two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports, another USB-C port with DisplayPort Alt Mode, two USB-A ports, HDMI, Ethernet (RJ-45), and a headset jack. SD card, smart-card, and nano-SIM options are also listed; HDMI specifications depend on integrated or discrete graphics configuration. Wireless options include Intel AX211 Wi-Fi 6E/Bluetooth 5.2 and optional Qualcomm 5G mobile broadband. Check the exact unit for optional ports and radios.
What did the reviewed configurations show?
Independent reviews tested materially different versions. Their findings are useful as configuration-specific evidence, not as a single score for the 7670 line.
Core i7 and RTX A2000 configuration
Notebookcheck reviewed a machine with a Core i7-12850HX, 95 W RTX A2000, and 3840 × 2400 OLED touchscreen. Its reported performance, thermal behavior, fan noise, battery life, and display observations apply to that test machine. The review gave an approximately $4,100 price for that configuration at the time; it is historical, not a current price or used-market valuation. See the Notebookcheck Precision 7670 review.

Core i9 and RTX A5500 performance configuration
A separate Notebookcheck review tested a Core i9-12950HX, RTX A5500, and 2400p OLED touchscreen performance model. Its professional-application and graphics results describe that higher-tier configuration and should not be applied to A2000 or lower-GPU thin models. The review’s approximately $7,000 configuration price was also historical. See the Notebookcheck RTX A5500 review.
StorageReview test configuration
StorageReview’s unit used a Core i7-12850HX, RTX A2000 8 GB, 32 GB DDR5-4800 CAMM, two 512 GB Gen 4 SSDs in RAID 0, an 83 Wh battery, a 180 W adapter, and an OLED display. Its listed $4,145 price was the review-time price for that configuration, not a present-day quote. StorageReview also identifies Lenovo ThinkPad P16 as a direct competitor. See StorageReview’s Precision 7670 review.
What are the main trade-offs?
Portability
At Dell’s stated starting weights of 2.60 kg for thin and 2.67 kg for performance, the laptop is already a substantial carry. The 180 W or 240 W adapter adds more weight, and the complete travel load will exceed the laptop’s starting weight. Choose it for workstation capability rather than assuming it is an easy everyday carry.

Memory upgrades
CAMM is a notable design feature, but Dell also lists SODIMM configurations. DDR5 alone does not establish which module format a machine accepts, and frequency or ECC support can vary. Check the installed configuration and the matching Dell support documents before ordering memory or opening the system.

Display choice
The 1920 × 1200 options range from 250 nits and 45% NTSC to 500 nits and 99% DCI-P3; the OLED option is a 3840 × 2400 touchscreen rated at 400 nits and 100% DCI-P3. A review of the OLED unit cannot establish the viewing experience of a low-gamut FHD+ panel. For color-sensitive work, verify the exact panel rather than relying on a listing that says only “16-inch display.”
Enterprise features
Dell’s 2022 Precision 7000 announcement describes available features for the 7670 and 7770 that include chassis-intrusion and battery-removal detection, contact and contactless smart-card readers, traditional or FIPS-certified fingerprint readers, and an IR camera for login. These are configuration-dependent options, not guaranteed on every unit. StorageReview also lists TPM 2.0, encrypted storage, and management features. Confirm requirements against the exact machine and the software or organization that will use it.

- Potential fit: CAD, 3D, engineering, scientific computing, and professional creative work that benefits from the selected HX CPU, RTX professional GPU, memory capacity, or a wide-gamut high-resolution display.
- Check software support: StorageReview notes ISV certification, but certification depends on the application and configuration. Verify the specific software and GPU combination in Dell’s compatibility information before treating it as a requirement met.
- Look elsewhere or compare carefully: Buyers focused on general office use or light creation may not benefit enough from workstation-class hardware to justify the weight and power demands. Compare total carry weight, current price, and the exact workload against newer or lighter systems.
How to assess a used or refurbished Precision 7670
Historical review prices cannot establish whether a used 7670 is a good deal in 2026. Judge the specific machine, its condition, and its present asking price; do not use a 2022 review quote as a current benchmark.
- Identify the exact configuration. Ask for the Service Tag and verify CPU, GPU, chassis, display, memory, storage, battery, and original options against Dell’s support records. Treat seller descriptions as claims until verified.
- Confirm the screen and graphics. Check the installed GPU model and display resolution, touch support, and panel option. These differences can change suitability more than the shared “Precision 7670” name suggests.
- Check memory format before budgeting upgrades. Establish whether the unit uses CAMM or SODIMM and consult the corresponding Dell service documentation for supported replacement or expansion.
- Inspect storage and RAID setup. Verify drive count, form factors, capacity, available slots, and whether RAID is configured before changing SSDs; altering an existing RAID setup can affect access to data or system configuration.
- Check battery condition and included power supply. Ask for battery-health information and verify that the included adapter is the appropriate 180 W or 240 W model for that configuration.
- Verify security options, warranty, and return terms. Do not assume optional smart-card, fingerprint, IR-camera, or intrusion-detection features are present. Confirm remaining warranty and a usable return period before purchase.
- Compare like with like. Against a ThinkPad P16 or another workstation, compare similar-generation CPUs, similar GPU tiers, display specifications, memory format, service coverage, and the actual current price—not old review prices or starting configurations.
Dell’s support index lists a Precision 7670 Service Manual updated August 15, 2024, and Setup and Specifications updated September 14, 2025. Use the documentation matching the machine when checking disassembly, memory, SSD, battery, cooling, or adapter compatibility.
