To remove a dating profile, use the service’s account-deletion controls—not just uninstall the app—and make a separate privacy request if you want to ask about personal data beyond the profile. Save any data you need first, cancel paid subscriptions through their billing provider, and expect that limited records may remain for safety, legal, or other stated reasons. This guide covers Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, OkCupid, Match, and eharmony; it is not an exhaustive list of every dating service.
Before deleting an account: save data and check billing
- List the services you have used. Include accounts you opened on the web as well as apps still installed on your phone.
- Save anything you want to keep. Download or request a copy of your data where available, and save conversations or records you need. Hinge’s in-app Download My Data feature is unavailable after account closure. Bumble warns that account data may no longer be retrievable once a profile has been deleted for more than 28 days. - Check how each subscription is billed. Cancel through the service or the billing provider—such as Apple or Google Play—where applicable. Account deletion does not reliably cancel a paid plan.
- Find the account-deletion control. Choose permanent deletion, not a pause, hide, or disable option. If you cannot sign in, contact the service’s official support or privacy channel.
- Keep a record of completion. Save any confirmation screen or support correspondence, especially if you may need proof of the request.
- Review connected access separately. You can revoke permissions for contacts, photos, location, or notifications in your device settings, and unlink a sign-in method if appropriate. Revoking permission prevents future access through it; it does not erase information the service already holds.
Delete your account on each platform
Tinder
Sign in through the Tinder app or Tinder.com, open your profile, go to Settings, scroll down, and select Delete Account. Tinder also offers a Manage My Account tool. Uninstalling the app does not close the account. Tinder says profile data is delayed for 90 days as a safety-retention period; its privacy policy describes a three-month safety-retention window and limited additional retention for specific purposes. Bumble
In the app, open your profile, tap Settings, scroll to Delete account, choose a reason, and confirm. On Bumble.com, open the profile menu, go to Settings, and select Delete account. Removing the app or staying inactive does not delete the profile. Bumble says some subscriptions may not cancel automatically, so cancel first through the relevant billing route. Bumble says you can contact support within 28 days to reactivate a deleted profile; its data-request guidance also warns that data may not be retrievable after more than 28 days. Hinge
In the app, tap the Photo Icon, open Account Settings with the gear icon, scroll down, select Delete Account, and confirm. Uninstalling Hinge does not close the account. Hinge says deletion removes profile content, photos, chat history, and member interactions under its privacy policy. The policy describes a three-month safety-retention period after closure, with limited retention for specific legal and legitimate purposes. Download data you need before closing the account. OkCupid
On the website, go to Settings and use the Need a Break? route. In the app, open your profile and Settings, then choose deletion in the disable/delete flow. Select deletion for permanent closure: disabling makes your profile invisible while leaving the option to reopen it. If Apple or Google Play bills your subscription, cancel with that provider separately; deleting the account does not stop those services from billing automatically. Match
Match says you can delete an account through its app or website. Its help page says it does not send an email confirming deletion, so keep a record of the completed flow or any support correspondence if confirmation matters to you. The available help guidance does not establish a specific retention deadline. Match account deletion instructions
eharmony
Open the account’s Profile Status section, follow the permanent profile deletion link, and confirm deletion of the profile and personal data by entering the login password. The FAQ does not establish a universal retention period. Check the privacy policy applicable to your account for regional details and any retention required for legal obligations. eharmony FAQ
Account deletion is not the same as complete erasure
Closing an account removes or disables the profile according to the service’s process, but it does not necessarily erase every record immediately. Tinder, Hinge, and OkCupid describe three-month safety-retention periods; Tinder’s help guidance specifies a 90-day delay. Their policies also allow limited retention for stated purposes. These periods are not a universal deadline for every service or every record. Match’s cited help guidance and eharmony’s FAQ do not establish a comparable universal schedule.
If you want to ask for access, deletion, or another privacy right, submit a request through the service’s privacy channel in addition to closing the account. The rights available depend on your location, and the service may ask you to verify your identity. - Use the platform’s official support or privacy-request channel to explain that you want the account closed and, if appropriate, to request deletion of personal data.
- Provide only information needed to identify the account, and complete any identity verification the service requires.
- Keep a copy of your request and any response. If a platform says it cannot confirm account deletion by email, retain your own record of the steps taken.
What deleting the app does—and does not do
Removing an app from your phone stops the app from being installed on that device, but it does not close the account or itself delete information already held by the service. Use the account’s deletion option or contact support. Likewise, disabling or hiding a profile may make it invisible without permanently closing the account, as OkCupid’s disable option illustrates.
