Before confirming, make sure the intended channel is selected and export anything you want to keep. If you only want to stop people seeing the channel for now, hide it instead: hiding is reversible; permanent deletion is not promised to be recoverable.
Choose the right action before you start
These options have different effects. Deleting a YouTube channel is not the same as deleting the Google Account that signs in to it.

Before deletion: verify the channel and save what matters
Check which channel is selected
If you manage multiple channels, confirm the channel name and account-switcher selection before proceeding. A personal channel uses the Google Account’s name and photo. A channel connected to a Brand Account can have a different identity and can be managed by multiple Google Accounts. Brand Account owners and managers can access the connected channel; owners can take full actions, including deleting it. YouTube Help
Take particular care not to confuse removing a YouTube channel with deleting a Brand Account. Deleting the Brand Account is a separate action that removes its content across Google services.

Export videos and other data with Google Takeout
Use Google Takeout to select YouTube and any other Google data you want in an archive, choose a delivery option, and create the archive. Google lists email download links and delivery to Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, or Box. Archive creation may take from a few minutes to a few days; Google says most people receive the link the same day. Those are help-page estimates, not a guaranteed deadline.
Check the archive and keep it somewhere with enough storage before deleting the channel. Takeout creates a copy: downloading your data does not delete it from Google’s servers.

If Takeout does not show your videos
Check whether the channel is linked to a Brand Account. Google advises signing in with the associated Google Account and switching to the Brand Account used to upload the videos. Confirm that you are viewing the right channel before concluding that no export is available. Google Account Help

You can also download individual uploaded videos in YouTube Studio. YouTube says this option may be unavailable if the video was removed, has a copyright or Community Guidelines strike, uses a preapproved audio track, or has already been downloaded five times in the previous 24 hours. How to permanently delete a YouTube channel
YouTube’s documented permanent-deletion route is for a computer; channel deletion is not currently available on mobile devices. Menu wording can change, so use YouTube’s official help page if the labels differ.
- Sign in to YouTube Studio with the account that manages the channel you intend to remove. Verify the selected channel.
- Open Settings → Channel → Advanced Settings.
- At the bottom, choose Remove YouTube Content. You may be asked to sign in again.
- Select I want to permanently delete my content.
- Review the confirmation boxes, select them, and choose Delete my content only if you are certain.
YouTube describes this action as deleting the channel, not the Google Account used to sign in. Do not proceed if you intended to close the entire Google Account instead; that separate action affects broader Google data and services.

How to hide a channel instead
If your goal is to pause public viewing rather than remove the channel permanently, choose the hide option in YouTube’s channel-removal flow instead of selecting permanent deletion. Hiding makes the channel name, videos, likes, subscriptions, and subscribers private, and the channel can be re-enabled later. YouTube says view counts may take up to a week to update after re-enabling. Follow the hide instructions on YouTube’s channel help page.

YouTube does not give a guaranteed completion time or promise a recovery window, so treat deletion as potentially unrecoverable and preserve wanted data first.

Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming channel deletion closes Gmail: it does not delete the sign-in Google Account. Google Account deletion is a distinct, broader operation.
- Treating hide and delete as interchangeable: hiding is reversible; permanent deletion removes channel content.
- Assuming deletion is instant or recoverable: YouTube gives no fixed completion deadline or assured recovery.
- Deleting the wrong channel: verify the channel switcher selection, especially when a Brand Account or multiple channels are involved.
- Using a third-party exporter that requests account credentials: Google and YouTube document Takeout and YouTube Studio for exporting your own data.
