DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash-1017 is the production model served through the public identifier deepseek-flash. Your bill depends on whether input tokens are cache hits or misses and whether requests run during weekday peak windows. The model offers a 1M-token context, up to 384K output tokens, JSON and tool calling, Responses and Anthropic-compatible APIs, and native vision support. The sections below show the exact rates, scheduling rules, limits, integration steps, and production decisions.

Flash API pricing at a glance

DeepSeek prices Flash per 1 million tokens. Input and output are metered separately, and cache-hit input is dramatically less expensive than cache-miss input. The following rates are those published for 2026; DeepSeek notes that product prices can change.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Usage Off-peak Peak
1M input tokens, cache hit $0.003 $0.006
1M input tokens, cache miss $0.15 $0.30
1M output tokens $0.60 $1.20

Charges use the total input and output tokens in each request. A long prompt that misses the cache is therefore priced very differently from a repeated prompt that hits it; model selection alone does not determine your bill.

When peak pricing applies

Peak time is 01:00–04:00 UTC and 06:00–10:00 UTC, Monday through Friday, excluding Chinese public holidays. Every other period is off-peak, including weekends and Chinese public holidays. DeepSeek states that off-peak rates are half of peak rates.

Convert the schedule before you automate

Use UTC in schedulers rather than converting once to a local timezone. If your workers run in multiple regions, keep a single UTC calendar so a daylight-saving change does not move a batch into the expensive window. Mark Chinese public holidays explicitly: they remain off-peak even when they fall on a weekday.

The two weekday windows cover seven UTC hours in total, with a two-hour off-peak break between them. Store the calendar as data, not as a hard-coded weekday rule, so holiday exceptions and future pricing changes can be updated without a code deployment. Timestamp every request in UTC in your cost warehouse; that makes provider invoices and application logs comparable.

Workloads that fit off-peak windows

  • Batch classification and document extraction
  • Embedding or indexing pipelines that can be queued
  • Evaluation runs, regression tests, and prompt sweeps
  • Backfills, reprocessing, and other non-interactive jobs

Interactive traffic should be budgeted at peak rates unless your product can tolerate queueing. Do not promise customers off-peak pricing as an availability guarantee; the published schedule describes billing periods, not a latency SLA.

What model name should production code use?

Set the request model to deepseek-flash. DeepSeek identifies that public name with DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash-1017. The older identifiers deepseek-v4-flash and deepseek-v4-flash-vision-exp are retained for compatibility, but they route to the current model and receive Flash pricing. Treating either legacy string as a separate checkpoint can lead to confusing observability and deployment records.

Context, output, and modalities

  • Context window: 1 million tokens.
  • Maximum output: 384,000 tokens.
  • Modes: thinking and non-thinking.
  • Structured and agent features: JSON output, tool calls, and the Responses API.
  • Compatibility: OpenAI-format and Anthropic-format API access, plus beta chat-prefix completion and beta fill-in-the-middle completion in non-thinking mode.
  • Vision: native multimodal input is supported.

DeepSeek’s September 10, 2026 announcement describes V4.1-Flash as a 552-billion-parameter mixture-of-experts model with 8 billion active input parameters and 16 billion active output parameters. It also says the KV cache uses one-quarter of the high-bandwidth memory and one-eighth of the solid-state storage used by the previous generation. These are the publisher’s architecture figures, not independent production benchmarks, so use your own workload measurements for latency, throughput, and quality decisions.

Estimating a request or monthly bill

Calculate each request in four steps: count input tokens, classify those input tokens as cache hits or misses, count output tokens, and apply the rate for the UTC period in which the request is processed. Aggregate the four totals over a billing period instead of multiplying an average prompt by request count when cache behavior varies.

A useful worksheet has six columns: off-peak cache-hit input, peak cache-hit input, off-peak cache-miss input, peak cache-miss input, off-peak output, and peak output. Multiply each token total in millions by its corresponding rate, then add Search and Fetch charges as separate services. Keep a second forecast with all traffic at peak rates; that is a safer ceiling for interactive products.

Worked off-peak example

Suppose a batch produces 10 million cache-miss input tokens and 2 million output tokens off-peak. Input is 10 × $0.15 = $1.50; output is 2 × $0.60 = $1.20; the model subtotal is $2.70. Search or Fetch calls, if any, are added separately.

Worked peak example

The same token totals during peak time produce 10 × $0.30 = $3.00 for input and 2 × $1.20 = $2.40 for output, or $5.40. A workload that can move to an off-peak queue therefore halves its model-token subtotal under the published schedule.

Monthly planning example

Assume a month contains 100 million cache-miss input tokens, 20 million cache-hit input tokens, and 10 million output tokens, all off-peak. The estimated model cost is 100 × $0.15 ($15.00) + 20 × $0.003 ($0.06) + 10 × $0.60 ($6.00), or $21.06. If the same mix runs during peak windows, it is 100 × $0.30 + 20 × $0.006 + 10 × $1.20 = $42.12. A mixed schedule should be calculated by splitting token totals into the two periods rather than applying one blended rate.

Why cache-hit ratio belongs in your forecast

At one million input tokens, a cache-hit input unit costs $0.003 off-peak versus $0.15 for a miss. Measure cache-hit and cache-miss tokens separately in telemetry, then forecast a range using your observed ratio. Do not apply the cache-hit price to a prompt merely because it is textually similar: only tokens DeepSeek accounts as cache hits receive that rate.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Stable system instructions, reusable tool definitions, and unchanged document prefixes are candidates for cache reuse. Random request identifiers, timestamps, or reordered messages can make an otherwise similar prompt a miss. Version prompt templates deliberately and compare hit rates after every template change.

Concurrency and capacity planning

The documented Flash concurrency limit is 2,500. Treat this as a planning reference, not proof that every account has identical queueing or isolation behavior. Before a production load test, confirm your account-level rate limits, whether concurrency is shared across projects or keys, and how excess requests are throttled or queued.

Use a bounded worker pool

  1. Set a client-side maximum below the documented ceiling so retries and health checks have headroom.
  2. Use exponential backoff with jitter for throttling responses; do not immediately replay every failed request at full fan-out.
  3. Separate interactive and batch queues so a backfill cannot consume all available workers.
  4. Record request start time, completion time, token counts, cache status, and HTTP error class for capacity analysis.
  5. Increase concurrency gradually during a controlled test and verify that latency, error rate, and token accounting remain stable.

Because the public figure does not specify per-key or per-region isolation, design for the lower limit you observe in your account until DeepSeek confirms otherwise.

OpenAI-compatible integration

DeepSeek says its API format is compatible with OpenAI and Anthropic clients. For OpenAI-format requests, use the base URL https://api.deepseek.com, supply a DeepSeek API key, and set the model to deepseek-flash.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Minimal cURL request

curl https://api.deepseek.com/chat/completions
  -H "Content-Type: application/json"
  -H "Authorization: Bearer ${DEEPSEEK_API_KEY}"
  -d '{"model":"deepseek-flash","messages":[{"role":"user","content":"Hello"}],"stream":false}'

Set DEEPSEEK_API_KEY in the server environment or secret manager rather than embedding it in source code. The response shape for this Chat Completions request follows the OpenAI-compatible format, so existing parsing and streaming code can usually be retained, subject to the features your client uses.

Using an OpenAI-format SDK

In an SDK that accepts a custom endpoint, configure the client with the same base URL and key, then pass model="deepseek-flash" on each request. Keep the endpoint in configuration so you can switch between staging and production without changing application logic. Test JSON mode, tool calls, streaming, and the Responses API individually: compatibility does not mean every optional parameter behaves identically across clients.

Anthropic-compatible endpoint

For Anthropic-format clients, set the base URL to https://api.deepseek.com/anthropic, authenticate with the same kind of DeepSeek API key, and continue to identify the model as deepseek-flash. Validate system-message handling, tool schema serialization, token usage fields, and error mapping in your chosen client before migrating live traffic.

Search, Fetch, and tool-call charges

Search and Fetch are separate services billed at $0.75 per 1,000 successful requests. Include those calls as a distinct line item in cost dashboards; they are not part of the model’s input-token price.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When server-side tool calls are invoked through DeepSeek Harness, Claude Code, or Codex, DeepSeek currently lists those calls as free. The pricing page states that per-request billing begins at 00:00 Beijing time on November 1, 2026. That date and policy are volatile, so re-check the current pricing terms immediately before launch and set an alert to revisit the assumption before the change takes effect.

Prevent tool-cost surprises

  • Count successful Search and Fetch responses separately from failed or retried calls.
  • Cache stable retrieval results in your own application when freshness requirements allow.
  • Apply per-user and per-job tool budgets so an agent loop cannot issue unbounded requests.
  • Log the tool name, request outcome, timestamp, and calling workflow for reconciliation.

How Flash compares in a production shortlist

Do not compare headline per-million-token prices alone. Evaluate each provider or model configuration on cache-hit ratio, peak versus off-peak scheduling, input/output token mix, concurrency and queueing, context and output limits, tool-call pricing, multimodal support, API compatibility, and the operational burden of hosting it yourself.

Flash is attractive when a workload can reuse large prompt prefixes, defer substantial batch volume, or benefit from a million-token context. A provider with a lower nominal output rate may still cost more if its cache behavior is weaker or if your traffic is concentrated in peak hours. Conversely, a higher-capacity endpoint may be preferable for strict latency targets even when off-peak pricing is unavailable. Run a representative trace, including retries, tools, images, and long-context requests, before choosing on price.

Production architecture decisions

Schedule by business value

Route flexible work to an off-peak queue and reserve peak capacity for interactions whose latency matters. A queue should carry an expiry time: delaying a report for hours may be acceptable, while delaying a fraud or support decision may not be. Price the latter at peak rates in your unit economics rather than assuming every request can be deferred.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Control prompt growth

The million-token context is useful for large corpora, but sending the entire corpus on every request increases token volume and can reduce cache effectiveness. Keep stable instructions and reusable prefixes consistent, partition changing material, and record the resulting cache-hit ratio. Use retrieval or staged summarization when the task does not require every source token in one context.

Separate model and tool budgets

Maintain independent budgets for model input, model output, Search, and Fetch. A workflow can remain within its token budget while exceeding its tool budget, or vice versa. Alert on both per-request and aggregate thresholds.

Test the features you actually depend on

Build a compatibility matrix for the exact client and mode you plan to deploy. Include non-thinking and thinking requests, JSON output, tool calls, vision payloads, streaming, and the Responses API if your application uses them. Capture the returned usage fields and compare them with your own tokenizer estimates before enabling automatic cost controls.

Reliability and observability essentials

Use request IDs or your own correlation IDs to connect application traces with provider usage. Record model identifier, endpoint, UTC start time, queue time, latency, status code, input-hit and input-miss tokens, output tokens, and tool outcomes. Redact user content while retaining enough metadata to explain a bill. Alert separately on authentication failures, throttling, timeouts, malformed tool responses, and unexpected model-name changes; each points to a different remedy.

Hosted use versus large-scale deployment

The public material describes the hosted API and says DeepSeek will work with the open-source community on V4.1-Flash inference support while exploring broader deployment options. It specifically invites organizations planning a deployment with 2,000 GPUs plus a storage cluster to contact the company.

That invitation is not a published self-hosting product, hardware bundle, reseller agreement, or service-level commitment. If you are evaluating self-managed inference, treat GPU count, storage design, software support, power, networking, and staffing as an independent architecture project and obtain written terms from DeepSeek. Do not infer that the hosted API’s limits or prices apply to an on-premises installation.

Pre-launch checklist

  • Use deepseek-flash and document that it maps to DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash-1017.
  • Store the API key in a secret manager and set the correct OpenAI or Anthropic-compatible base URL.
  • Model costs with your measured cache-hit ratio and a peak-rate scenario.
  • Convert all scheduling logic to UTC and encode Chinese public holidays.
  • Keep batch and interactive queues separate.
  • Load-test below the documented 2,500 concurrency figure, then verify account-specific behavior.
  • Track input-hit, input-miss, output, Search, and Fetch usage independently.
  • Set a calendar reminder to review tool billing before November 1, 2026 Beijing time.
  • Run feature tests for every API capability your application uses, including vision and tool calls.

Common failure modes and fixes

Requests use a retired model name

If logs show deepseek-v4-flash or deepseek-v4-flash-vision-exp, update application configuration to deepseek-flash. The legacy names route to the current model, but standardizing the identifier keeps dashboards and deployment manifests unambiguous.

Costs are higher than the forecast

Check three dimensions first: whether requests landed in peak UTC windows, how many input tokens were cache misses, and whether Search or Fetch calls were added. Compare provider usage records with application logs for the same time interval before changing prompts or concurrency.

Free tools Windows power users keep installed

One-click scans. No signup required.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Throughput collapses during a batch

Inspect concurrency, retry amplification, and queue contention. Reduce worker fan-out, add jittered backoff, and move the batch to an off-peak queue. Ask DeepSeek to confirm account-level isolation if your observed ceiling is far below the documented reference.

An SDK call fails despite API compatibility

Verify the base URL path, authorization header, model string, and request schema. Then test the smallest Chat Completions request before enabling streaming, tools, JSON mode, vision, or Responses-specific fields. Compatibility is an API format promise, not a guarantee that every client extension is supported without configuration changes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the correct DeepSeek V4.1 Flash 1017 model name?

Use deepseek-flash. It routes to DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash-1017. The legacy names deepseek-v4-flash and deepseek-v4-flash-vision-exp are compatibility aliases, not separate current checkpoints.

How much does DeepSeek Flash cost per million tokens?

Off-peak rates are $0.003 per million cache-hit input tokens, $0.15 per million cache-miss input tokens, and $0.60 per million output tokens. Peak rates are $0.006, $0.30, and $1.20 respectively.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When are DeepSeek Flash peak hours?

Peak pricing applies from 01:00–04:00 UTC and 06:00–10:00 UTC, Monday through Friday, excluding Chinese public holidays. Weekends and Chinese public holidays are off-peak.

What is the documented Flash concurrency limit?

DeepSeek documents a concurrency limit of 2,500. Confirm your account’s effective rate limits, project or key isolation, throttling, and queue behavior before rollout.

Can I use the OpenAI SDK with DeepSeek Flash?

Yes. Point an OpenAI-compatible client at https://api.deepseek.com, authenticate with a DeepSeek API key, and set model to deepseek-flash. Test the specific features your application uses.

Is there an Anthropic-compatible DeepSeek endpoint?

Yes. Use https://api.deepseek.com/anthropic with an Anthropic-format client and the model name deepseek-flash. Validate message, tool, usage, and error-field mappings.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Are Search and Fetch included in token pricing?

No. Successful Search and Fetch requests are billed separately at $0.75 per 1,000 requests. Tool calls through DeepSeek Harness, Claude Code, or Codex are currently listed as free, with per-request billing scheduled to begin at 00:00 Beijing time on November 1, 2026.

Can DeepSeek Flash process images and long documents?

The model supports native vision and a 1-million-token context window, with a maximum output of 384,000 tokens. Test image payloads and long-context workloads with your exact client and budget for their token usage.

Does DeepSeek offer a self-hosting package for Flash?

No public self-hosting product, hardware bundle, reseller agreement, or service-level commitment is documented. DeepSeek invites organizations planning deployments with 2,000 GPUs plus a storage cluster to contact it, but hosted API terms should not be assumed to apply on premises.

The Bottom Line

For production teams, deepseek-flash combines a 1M-token context and broad API compatibility with unusually low cache-hit input pricing. Forecast with cache misses and peak rates, schedule deferrable work in UTC off-peak windows, isolate tool costs, and validate the 2,500-concurrency reference against your own account before committing to scale.
