What Da Red Gobbo represents
A recurring festive character rather than one permanent kit

Makari versus Red Gobbo for actual 40K games
Army integration
Makari has the clearer path into a conventional Ork army because he is part of Ghazghkull’s current character package and is explicitly referenced by the Waaagh! Banner aura. If your army already uses Ghazghkull, Makari is the natural companion model and completes the intended unit presentation.
Red Gobbo is a thematic addition. He can be excellent in narrative or festive games, but you should verify whether the specific release has a current datasheet, a Legends profile, a Power Level entry or only a scenario-based role. That extra check is the main practical difference between the two purchases.
Positioning and battlefield expectations
Makari’s 12-inch aura creates a positioning consideration: the Ork units you want to benefit must stay within range while the Waaagh! is active. Competitive, casual and narrative use
- Matched-play army: Makari is the safer purchase because his role is tied to the current Ghazghkull rules package. Red Gobbo requires a current-format check.
- Casual club games: Either can work. Agree in advance which Red Gobbo rules and edition you are using if the model’s support is not in the main codex.
