There is no single best custom laptop in Australia that the available evidence can name. The four brands in this comparison are different kinds of businesses, their published configurations are not directly comparable, and two of the most important buying terms, warranty length and delivery, are stated inconsistently or not at all. Aftershock and Metabox are Australian-facing sellers with purchasable or build-to-order laptops. Clevo is a laptop manufacturer that describes itself as an OEM/ODM company. PCSpecialist’s current Australian ordering, shipping and warranty terms could not be confirmed. Use this guide to compare matched configurations and to get the exact terms in writing before you pay.
Four different kinds of business
Before comparing prices, separate the sellers from the manufacturer. A seller’s price covers a specific build, with its own warranty, shipping and support. A manufacturer’s statements describe its engineering capability, not what a particular Australian seller is shipping this month.

| Brand | Role, as stated by the brand | Australian purchase model shown | Point to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aftershock | Retailer of gaming and productivity laptops | Named models listed with selected CPU, GPU and display options and AUD starting prices | Warranty length (see the warranty section) |
| Metabox | Build-to-order laptop seller | Configurable RAM, SSD and optional warranty upgrades, with options varying by model | Current options and build time in the configurator |
| Clevo | Professional laptop manufacturer in Taiwan (OEM/ODM); not a consumer storefront | Not applicable; Clevo’s product pages list product groups rather than Australian prices | Which exact chassis or model a seller is using, if any |
| PCSpecialist | Custom PC and laptop seller | Not stated for Australia | Whether Australian orders are accepted, and on what terms |
Match the full configuration before comparing prices
Headline prices from different vendors usually describe different machines. Build a shortlist using the same specification on every page, then compare these fields in this order:
- Processor and graphics: the exact CPU and GPU model, and the graphics power limit (TGP) if the vendor publishes one. The same GPU name can perform differently at different power limits, and not every vendor states this figure.
- Memory and storage: the RAM capacity, the number of slots, and whether the RAM and SSD can be upgraded later.
- Display: size, resolution, refresh rate, colour coverage and brightness.
- Battery, ports, networking and weight.
- Operating system and the total AUD price, including any shipping, handling and GST the vendor adds at checkout.
- Stock status: whether the model is in stock, configurable, or built to order. Prices and stock change, so confirm them on the vendor page on the day you buy.
Vendor by vendor
Aftershock Australia
Aftershock’s Australian laptop category is split into gaming and office or productivity lines. Named models shown on the category page include the X-16 PRO, Lunar 14R, GAMING A16, Aero X16 and Aorus Master 16. Each listing displays selected CPU, GPU and display configurations with AUD starting prices. These are vendor listings. They tell you what is offered, not how the machine performs, so use them to build a matched shortlist rather than as a verdict. Check the Aftershock Australia laptop category for current models.

- Cooler Boost 5 shared-pipe thermals: Dual fans, multi-heat-pipe Cooler Boost 5 and a shared-pipe design help keep CPU and GPU temps in check so frame rates stay stable during long sessions.
- 4-Zone RGB keyboard built for play: Customize your look with a 4-Zone RGB keyboard featuring highlighted WASD and specially designed keycaps plus a numpad for chat, shortcuts, and everyday use.
- AI-ready, Copilot-enhanced connectivity hub: MSI AI Engine and Copilot optimize performance and multitasking, while HDMI (up to 8K), USB-C with DisplayPort/Power Delivery, Wi-Fi 6E, RJ45, and USB-A ports keep you plugged into monitors and peripherals.
Aftershock’s support and FAQ hub describes carry-in and pickup or return warranty logistics. Read those steps before you buy, especially if you will be working without the laptop for a period.
Metabox
Metabox’s Australian laptop range is built to order. Its page lists configurable RAM options up to 128GB, several SSD capacity options, and optional warranty upgrades. Available options differ by model, so the configurator is the only reliable source for what you can actually select. See the Metabox laptop range page.
Because the machine is assembled to your choices, a build-to-order laptop is harder to compare with a catalogue model. A higher RAM or SSD option may change the price more than the headline spec suggests, so price each option separately and add them to the matched total.

Clevo
Clevo describes itself as a professional laptop manufacturer in Taiwan, established in 1983, with design, manufacturing and testing capabilities. Its official overview and product page list gaming, entertainment and mobility product groups. These are the company’s own statements. They are not independent assessments of quality, and they do not show which Australian seller, if any, sells a laptop built on a Clevo chassis.
If a seller mentions Clevo, ask for the exact model number and confirm that it matches the Clevo product being described before you rely on any review or compatibility claim. A brand name on a reseller’s page does not identify the underlying chassis.
PCSpecialist
PCSpecialist’s Australian ordering, delivery, warranty and support terms could not be confirmed from a current authoritative source. That is not evidence that PCSpecialist does or does not sell into Australia. It means you should not rely on any older summary for this decision. Ask the seller directly, in writing, the questions in the checklist below before you compare its price against the other three brands.

Warranty: resolve the two-year and three-year wording
Aftershock’s FAQ states: “Aftershock Laptops: These come with a 2-year parts and labour warranty.” A separate Aftershock sale page advertises “3-Year Warranty” in promotional copy. The two statements conflict for laptops, and the sale-page wording should not be generalised to every model.

Treat the warranty as unresolved until the exact product page or your written quote states the length, what is excluded, and who pays freight both ways. A three-year promotion, if you can confirm it applies to your model, is a different contract from the standard two-year cover described in the FAQ. Metabox lists optional warranty upgrades, which should also be priced and written into the quote.

Metabox’s page says to allow up to five business days for custom build preparation. The same page also labels the build time as three to five business days. Both figures describe build preparation, not delivery to your door. Neither source gives a separate Australian delivery time, so ask for a delivery estimate in writing after you confirm the configuration.

Performance claims: what this article does not rank
No independent test of a specific Australian configuration was found, so this article does not rank sustained gaming performance, noise, thermals, battery life or reliability. Don’t take any of these from a headline spec or a vendor marketing line. If you need those answers, look for a published review of the exact model and configuration you plan to buy, and check that the review’s chassis, GPU power limit and RAM match your quote.
