Critical SonicWall SMA 1000 Flaw Draws 135 Reported Exploitation Attempts

Previdian reported 135 sensor-observed attempts against SonicWall SMA 1000 flaw CVE-2026-102255. Here are the affected firmware builds, fixes, and key caveats.

Previdian reported 135 sensor-observed attempts targeting CVE-2026-102255, a critical pre-authentication server-side request forgery (SSRF) flaw in the SonicWall SMA 1000 Work Place interface. That figure is not a count of successful attacks or compromised appliances. SonicWall’s October 6, 2026 advisory says it has no evidence that the vulnerabilities it covers are being exploited in the wild. Administrators should check their appliance model and firmware against the affected-build list and install a fixed hotfix.

What happened—and what the 135 figure means

SonicWall’s October 6, 2026 product notice, SNWLID-2026-0017, covers four vulnerabilities in SMA 1000 appliances. It assigns CVSS 10.0 to CVE-2026-102255, an SSRF flaw in the Work Place interface that does not require authentication. SonicWall’s advisory says there is no evidence that the vulnerabilities in that notice are being exploited in the wild.

Separately, Previdian’s public telemetry reported 135 attempts against CVE-2026-102255 on October 9–10, 2026. Its summary attributes the observations to one sensor and two attacker IP addresses. These are reported attempts—not 135 successful exploits, confirmed customer incidents, or compromised appliances. The telemetry and SonicWall’s assessment describe different evidence and should not be treated as contradictory confirmation of a breach. Previdian’s early-warning page and its sensor telemetry summary provide the observation context.

Which SMA 1000 appliances and firmware builds are affected?

SonicWall lists models 6210, 7210, and 8200v—including virtual 8200v deployments—as affected when running either of the following builds or an older build in that branch:

#1 Best Overall
SonicWall Global VPN Client - License - 10 Licenses (01-SSC-5311) - Secure IPsec VPN Connectivity for Remote Work & Site-to-Site Access
  • SonicWall Global VPN Client - License (01-SSC-5311)
  • Secure IPsec VPN Access: Enables encrypted remote connections to SonicWall firewalls using robust IPsec tunneling protocols.
  • Consistent Remote Access Experience: Delivers a reliable and high-performance VPN connection for employees working remotely or from branch sites.
  • Compatible with Windows OS: Designed for Microsoft Windows environments, with simple installation and configuration.
  • Policy-Based Access Control: Enforce connection rules and restrict access to resources based on user identity and endpoint status.
Firmware branch Affected build Fixed build listed by SonicWall
12.4.3 12.4.3-03526 or older 12.4.3-03670
12.5.0 12.5.0-02952 or older 12.5.0-03082

The fixed versions above are those identified in SonicWall’s October 6 notice; the vendor directs customers to upgrade to the latest hotfix. Check the current notice and the support channel for the latest applicable package before upgrading, since firmware guidance can change. Verify both the appliance model and its exact firmware build rather than relying on the product family name alone. See SNWLID-2026-0017.

What administrators should do

  1. Identify the appliance and build. Check inventory and the appliance’s management interface to confirm whether it is a 6210, 7210, or 8200v, and record its complete firmware version.
  2. Compare it with the affected and fixed builds. If the appliance is on an affected build, obtain the applicable hotfix through SonicWall’s support channel and upgrade to the latest vendor-recommended version.
  3. Assess exposure and investigate evidence. Prioritize internet-exposed appliances for review, but do not infer compromise solely from the 135 reported attempts. If compromise is suspected, contact SonicWall technical support for an indicator review.
  4. Respond to indicators of compromise. SonicWall’s SMA 1000 guidance for a different, September 2026 vulnerability notice recommends reimaging hardware or redeploying virtual appliances if indicators are found, then changing user and administrator passwords and resetting TOTP tokens. Coordinate those actions with support and incident responders.

Do not confuse this advisory with SonicWall’s September exploitation notice

SonicWall’s September 1, 2026 notice, SNWLID-2026-0016, concerned CVE-2026-83548 and CVE-2026-83549—not the October SSRF, CVE-2026-102255. In that earlier notice, SonicWall said those separate vulnerabilities had been confirmed as actively exploited and advised customers to upgrade to its hotfix and contact technical support for an indicator review. The confirmed exploitation statement applies to the September flaws; it is not confirmation that CVE-2026-102255 was successfully exploited. Read SNWLID-2026-0016.
